Russian FM Calls New US Sanctions Against Iran 'Illegitimate in Principle'

Speaking at a press conference, the minister said that by imposing sanctions on Tehran, the US tries to turn a hard-won balance on such a sensitive issue as the Iranian nuclear program for his own benefit, it can disturb that balance.

"Such provocations should not be made. We are not talking about someone's national interests, not about the interests of any one country, but about the interests of a huge region, in which we are interested in securing a non-nuclear status," Lavrov said.

Tehran Calls on Baghdad, Iraqi Kurds to Discuss Looming Kurdistan Referendum

Tehran supports the negotiations between Iraq and the autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan amid the latter's plan to hold an independence referendum in September, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi said Tuesday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Qassemi said as quoted by the Fars news agency that the internal talks between Erbil and Baghdad should "resolve issues" between the parties in the run up to the referendum on independence.

The minister stressed the achievements of the Iraqi people in fighting terror and liberating the territories, which had been occupied by the Daesh terror group (banned in Russia).
The spokesman added that Iran was seeking the best-possible relations with all of Iraq's political, social, ethnic and religious bodies.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unless this is mediated, quickly and intelligently, we could see more bloody civil war in Iraq, in the area the Kurds want to claim as their independent Kurdistan.

Iran Threatens to Send Warships to Atlantic and Ramp Up Nuclear Activities if US Continues Sanctions

By Aaron Kesel

Amid Americans’ concerns that North Korea threatened to launch a missile at Guam, Iran is planning on building up a flotilla of warships in the Atlantic Ocean, while Iranian leader Hassan Rouhani has threatened to revitalize the country’s nuclear program if the U.S. continues “threats and sanctions.”...

Iran Counters US Sanctions With New War Spending, Warships to Atlantic Ocean

Iranian leaders are responding to the latest round of sanctions signed by US President Donald Trump with a two-pronged approach: increased defense and intelligence spending by roughly $600-800 million and marshaling military vessels to the Atlantic Ocean.

"No military official in the world thought that we can go round Africa to the Atlantic Ocean through the Suez Canal but we did it as we had declared that we would go to the Atlantic and its western waters,” Iranian Rear Adm. Habibollah Sayyari said over the weekend, according to local media sources.

"We moved into the Atlantic and will go to its Western waters in the near future," Sayyari added. In April, Sayyari reportedly said, "redeployment in the Atlantic Ocean, intelligence superiority, development of communications, progress in the development of the Makran coast and building new vessels are among the Navy’s plans this year."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Iranian President Rouhani, a word, please: Iran's ditching the P5+1 Agreement is precisely what these sanctions are engineered to get Iran to do; please don't fall for it.

You have to know by now that the US will use such a withdrawal as the "justification" for an attack against you, and any escalation of threats to resume to your nuclear weapons program will simply accelerate US hostilities against you.

Sir, as a 68 year old thinking American, the imposition of the Shah in 53 wasn't my doing; I was all of 4 years old at the time.

So I am asking you and the Iranian Majlis not to do something rash which will cause the US government to declare war against you.

And please understand this; American citizens have absolutely no control over the actions of the American deep state, which has its own agendas, and those agendas are frequently inimical to those of the American people.

Most thinking Americans do not want to see war against Iran; unfortunately, this is what Israeli Premiere Netanyahu is constantly browbeating President Trump to do for him (but only at the costs of American blood and American money).

President Trump may well not have adequate information on Iran, because much of it is being "filtered" by advisors who are warmongers.

Official says Israeli delegation will try to persuade White House that cease-fire deal should be amended to make sure Iranian forces, Hezbollah and Shi’ite militias are kept out of Syria

A delegation of Israeli defense officials will visit Washington later this week for talks with senior White House and American defense officials. Haaretz has learned that the delegation will be headed by Mossad chief Yossi Cohen, and he will be joined by the head of the Israel Defense Forces Military Intelligence, Maj. Gen. Herzl Halevi, as well as the head of the Defense Ministry's political-security department, Zohar Palti.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mossad Chief Cohen, Maj. Gen. Herzl Halevi; and Zohar Palti, a word, please: your "defense interests" for Israel have been assured by the United States of America for generations, culminating in the defense aid package given to you by President Obama, to the tune of 38 billion dollars, over the course of a decade.

Obama hands Israel the largest military aid deal in history.

This was again topped by President Trump's aid over concerns of his Saudi weapons deal in May:

Both Presidents Obama and Trump have done this, knowing it is a violation of the Symington Amendment and the Glenn Act, which prohibits any financial aid to any country which refuses to sign the NNPT, and does not allow its nuclear weapons to be inspected: Israel fails, miserably, on both counts, but still, always gets the money it wants, while homeless American Vets sleep in our streets, and kids living in extreme poverty are horrifically food-insecure.

Israel has not been invited to the discussion between the US and Russia about the issue of peace in Syria; Russia was invited by the Syrian government to rid it of all jihadists; Israel and the United States were not.

Israel's greatest problem, is its pathological inability to get along with its regional neighbors in an intelligent, and cohesive manner; therefore, it is always demanding that "Daddy Warbucks" (read: the Unhinged, Surveilled States of America") get it out of its current self-imposed dilemma, whether it is punching up a cease fire agreement, in this case, or anything else, like "regime changing Tehran, but only with American blood and American money.

I frankly hope that the meeting goes absolutely nowhere; it may cause Israel to "play better with others" in the region. And please note: this delegation is not going to Moscow to attempt to get what it wants, from the Syrian cease fire.

BEX ALERT - Can Anyone Stop Iran From Taking Over Iraq?

Mosul is back in the Iraqi government’s hands and the war against the Islamic State seems to finally be approaching its end. This is the good news. But one of the byproducts of the campaign is that Iran’s reach now extends even deeper throughout Iraq and seems unlikely to go away any time soon.

Iran dismisses US claims of unsafe drone flight in Gulf as unfounded

Iran has rejected Washington's claims that it flew an unarmed drone so dangerously close to an American aircraft carrier in the Gulf that it endangered the lives of US pilots.

The Iranian Sadegh drone flew without any warning lights on Sunday night while shadowing the USS Nimitz, the US Navy said on Monday, adding it came close enough to F-18 fighter jets to put the lives of American pilots at risk.

It was the latest in a spate of close encounters between US and Iranian aircraft or warships in the waters of the Gulf in recent weeks that have sparked recriminations as relations sour.

Rogue state, what rogue state? Burgeoning EU-Iran relations signal US adrift

The phalanx of European leaders, ministers, and dignitaries, attending the inauguration of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani last weekend was a stunning snub to Washington. It was also a clear signal the US is losing its thrall over Europe.

Think about it. According to US President Donald Trump and the American Congress, Iran is the world’s biggest state sponsor of terrorism. And yet here we saw European leaders respectfully attending the swearing-in of the country’s re-elected president. A rather big contradiction, don’t you think?

LEAKED EMAILS: SAUDI POWER BEHIND THE THRONE “WANTS OUT OF YEMEN”

THE KEY SAUDI official in charge of the catastrophic ongoing war in Yemen wants it to stop, he told two influential foreign policy figures in Washington this spring.

Mohammed bin Salman, a member of the Saudi royal family who effectively rules the country, made the comments to Martin Indyk and Stephen Hadley. Indyk was a high-level diplomat during both the Clinton and Obama administrations and Hadley a top adviser to former President George W. Bush.

Indyk relayed the conversation to Yousef Al Otaiba, the United Arab Emirates ambassador to the United States, and the man most responsible for aiding bin Salman’s rise in Washington.

“I think MBS is far more pragmatic than what we hear in saudi public positions,” Otaiba wrote to Indyk on the morning of April 20.

WIKILEAKS: RIYADH FLIRTS WITH TEL AVIV THROUGH NORMALIZATION

A “highly classified” press release by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which was published by WikiLeaks, reveals the level of rapprochement between Riyadh and Tel Aviv. Saudi Arabia initiated discussions on the issue of normalization with Israel and the 2002 Saudi peace initiative that was adopted by the Arab League at the Beirut Summit in the same year.

This was followed by a media propaganda in 2006, the year in which influential people in Saudi Arabia started speaking out that Israel was no longer among the enemies of the United States, but was the closest to an unofficial ally.

This discourse has developed and turned into Saudi initiatives to establish ties between the two countries in 2008. Since that date, the effectiveness of the ties between Tel Aviv and Riyadh and the support of the rapprochement between the two are clearly noticed.

Webmaster's Commentary:

No where, in bilateral relations in the Middle East, can one see a better personification of the Arabic phrase: "The enemy of my enemy (in this case, Iran) is my friend!"

Flashback: Nuclear Deal With Iran Prelude to War, Not “Breakthrough”

“…any military operation against Iran will likely be very unpopular around the world and require the proper international context—both to ensure the logistical support the operation would require and to minimize the blowback from it.

The best way to minimize international opprobrium and maximize support (however, grudging or covert) is to strike only when there is a widespread conviction that the Iranians were given but then rejected a superb offer—one so good that only a regime determined to acquire nuclear weapons and acquire them for the wrong reasons would turn it down. Under those circumstances, the United States (or Israel) could portray its operations as taken in sorrow, not anger, and at least some in the international community would conclude that the Iranians “brought it on themselves” by refusing a very good deal.”

Iran ready to scrap nuclear deal ‘within hours’ if US imposes new sanctions – Rouhani

Iran may pull out from the nuclear program agreement in response to new sanctions from the United States, Iranian President Hasan Rouhani said. "Iran has remained and will remain committed to the deal, though any breach of promise by other parties will receive appropriate responses," he added. USS Nimitz Reports Another "Dangerous" Interaction With Iranian Drone

As the world focuses on the escalating rhetoric between President Trump and Kim Jong-Un of North Korea, Iranian forces seem to also be growing increasingly hostile toward American Navy operations in the Persian Gulf with the AP reporting a second "dangerous" encounter with an Iranian drone in the span of less than a week. Just last week we noted that an Iranian drone came within 100 feet of an F/A-18 operating from the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier forcing pilots to take evasive measures to avoid a collision.

Now the Associated Press is reporting that another Iranian drone shadowed the USS Nimitz overnight creating a dangerous operating environment for U.S. pilots.

An unarmed Iranian drone shadowed a U.S. aircraft carrier at night and came close enough to F-18 fighter jets to put the lives of American pilots at risk, the Navy said Tuesday, reporting the second such tense encounter within a week.

Webmaster's Commentary:

To the Iranian Military, a word, please; at the moment when Nikki Haley, the US Ambassador to the UN is in Vienna, attempting to find one bit of info (accurate or not) that Iran is not in compliance with the P5+1 Accord, as the justification for going to war against your country, sending out a drone to shadow the USS Nimitz may not have been a particularly swell idea right now.

FOR NETANYAHU AND THE SAUDIS, OPPOSING DIPLOMACY WITH IRAN WAS NEVER ABOUT ENRICHMENT

“THIS WAS NEVER about enrichment.” The academics and officials in the room were taken aback. For a former senior Israeli official to deny the importance of the nuclear issue was unusual, to say the least. The conversations, attended by American civilian and military officials and other Western representatives, as well as Iranian diplomats and Tehran’s then-nuclear negotiators, were shockingly honest.

It was April 2012. Tensions between Israel and the Obama administration were rising.

The closed meeting, organized by a prominent U.S. university and held in a small Western European country, revealed dynamics driving the conflict that are rarely discussed in public: The Israeli fear that Iran’s rise in the region would be accepted by the U.S., and that it would regard Tehran as a legitimate player in the new regional order without Tehran accepting Israel’s existence.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As those who read this blog regularly appreciate, I have been a very vocal critic of many of President Obama's policies; the P5+1, regarding Iran, was not one of them, and I consider it one of the prudent, and effective, international deals of his entire presidency.

Unfortunately, President Trump wants to tear up the agreement, and right now, the US Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, is in Vienna, attempting to find a way to claim that Iran is not complying with the agreement, even as the IAEA states, emphatically, that they are.

As Israeli Prime Minister goes down to abject defeat in his coming trial for corruption, it will be interesting to see if Israel's next Prime Minister will still call for "regime change" in Iran, (only at the costs of American blood and American money), or find some other way to recharacterize Iran as essentially non-threatening, and find ways to engage, both economically and politically.

IRAN PARLIAMENT CHANTS ‘DEATH TO AMERICA’ AFTER VOTING TO BOOST MISSILE PRODUCTION

Iran’s parliament chanted ‘death to America’ on Sunday following a vote to increase ballistic missile production and boost the number of Revolutionary Guards in response to U.S. sanctions, less than a year after president Obama sent $1.7 billion in Euros, Swiss francs, and other foreign currencies strapped to pallets in exchange for U.S. hostages.

The vote to boost defense spending by US $520 million – less than one 10th of 1 percent of the $600 billion U.S. defense budget, was cast to counter “terrorist and adventurous actions” by the United States in the region, and will also be used to boost the ranks of Revolutionary Guards.

Per Iran’s state-run news agency PressTV:

The measure came after President Donald Trump signed into law a bill passed by US Congress to impose new sanctions on Iran over its missile program in early August.

Webmaster's Commentary:

An open letter to the Iranian Majlis: yes, I know that you are in both Israel's and the Unhinged, Surveilled States of America's crosshairs.

Yes, I understand that Israel wants to create regime change in Iran, but only wants the costs of such an action to be solely in American blood and American money.

But please, you need to understand that most thinking Americans do not want war at all against Iran, but are utterly powerless when it comes to actually being in any kind of control of the American deep state, which has its own agendas, and those agendas have utterly nothing to do with the real needs and concerns of American citizens.

Since the 1979 Revolution, Iran has been on an incredible journey, and has garnered a great deal of respect for that journey from all around the world. You have developed a Constitution (something that Israel does not have); minority religions, like Christianity, Baha'i, and Judaism, are protected; you have developed incredible schools of learning for your kids and young adults; and the growth of your scientific research in many areas has been formidable.

So the bottom line here, is that, understanding all of this, as a thinking, rational human being, I could never say, "Death to Iran", and neither could a lot of my friends and colleagues.

The American Deep State's "war" against you, is all about controlling your oil, and insuring that your oil is sold only in US dollars.

U.S. Ambassador Haley Loses Two Key Aides at United Nations

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has lost two of her top aides, key departures that come at a time of growing international tensions between the U.S. and North Korea.

Haley’s Chief of Staff Steven Groves resigned, as did her communications director Jonathan Wachtel. Haley said on Twitter Wednesday it was because of "family concerns." The departures also come ahead of Haley’s trip to Vienna to review Iran’s nuclear activities with the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency.

Groves, an adviser who had arrived from the conservative think tank Heritage Foundation had argued for the U.S. to “sever relations” with UN’s Human Rights Council for criticizing Israel and to pull out of the Paris climate change agreement.

Webmaster's Commentary:

They may have had various and sundry reasons for leaving the employ of US Ambassador Haley, but I think the bottom line here with both men, is that they know something wicked this way comes, in regard to both North Korea and Iran, and soon, and ultimately, could not, in good conscience, continue to serve.

Trump: Iran ‘Not in Compliance’ With Nuclear Deal

Less than a month ago, President Trump admitted that Iran was in compliance with the P5+1 nuclear deal. It was clear he wasn’t happy with it, and reports were that the admission came after a bitter fight with his cabinet, who warned him against falsely claiming Iran wasn’t complying.

Even though literally nothing has happened between then and now with respect to the deal itself, President Trump today declared Iran “not in compliance” in the course of his vacation at a golf course in New Jersey.

Again, he offered no details on what he’s threatening or what he’s demanding, though he did condemn President Obama for making the deal in the first place, reiterating how opposed he is to the nuclear deal in general.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, a word, please: you seem to have learned everything you know about Iran from those who want to see it "neutralized" as an existential threat to Israel; but only with American blood, and American money.

Therefore, your hatred and suspicion of the current government appears to be very ill-founded. Yes, it is a limited, Islamic democracy; but you have to give the post 1979 Iranians some credit here; there is a Constitution, which respects the rights of minority religions, such as Christianity, Judaism, and the Baha'i faith.

To date, Israel has utterly no Constitution whatsoever.

And if you might possibly want just a little, tiny bit of reality to creep into your views of Iran, I strongly suggest that you watch the following video, shot by a charming, Jewish videographer, about the state of Iranian Jews. And I have three words for you here: they are

FIRE MCMASTER, URGES PRO-ISRAEL GROUP BACKED BY SHELDON ADELSON

President Donald Trump’s White House is being put in the awkward position of having to choose sides between major donors and its own senior staffers. On Wednesday night, a right-wing, pro-Israel lobby group funded largely by the Adelson family — which also gave millions to Trump’s presidential campaign and inauguration — launched a broadside attack against National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. H. R. McMaster.

The Zionist Organization of America announced Monday that it was undertaking a review of McMaster’s record on Israel, according to an “exclusive” story in the right-wing website, Breitbart. On Wednesday, the group released a statement calling for McMaster to be reassigned from the National Security Council because, according to the ZOA, he “purged from the NSC those officials who were carrying out President Trump’s policies of combating Iranian and radical Islamist transnational threats.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Translation: American Zionists are very angry that Mc Masters hasn't moved anywhere quickly enough to their liking in declaring Iran in violation of the P5+1, as a prelude to a US-led war against it.

UN Envoy Haley Heads to Vienna to Challenge Iran’s Nuclear Deal Compliance

While most of the Trump Administration opposes the president’s efforts to come up with some pretext for withdrawing from the P5+1 nuclear deal with Iran, Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley has appeared to be on board with the idea, even declaring Iran in violation of the deal in June, shortly before President Trump grudgingly admitted they were in compliance.

IAEA inspectors continue to confirm Iran’s compliance with the P5+1 deal
President Trump has suggested he’s going to claim a violation next time, and Haley is reportedly planning to visit the IAEA in Vienna later this month, with the visit expected to focus on Iranian compliance. The IAEA has affirmed Iran remains in compliance monthly since the deal went into effect.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a brilliant demonstration of Ms. Haley serving her Israeli masters by attempting to destroy the P5+1 accord with Iran, as a prelude to a US war against it.

If one takes a look at her bio Biography of Ambassador Nikki Haley, you will notice that she does have a BS degree...in accounting, not nuclear energy or nuclear weapons.

She is probably the most completely scientifically unqualified American President Trump could have possibly chosen to attempt to pick holes in what the IAEA has continued, in its scientific capabilities, to claim about Iran completely complying with the P5+1 agreement.

Please remember; Israel would like nothing better than the extermination of its alleged existential enemy in the Middle East, Iran; but only with American blood and American money.

Is America Trying to Start a World War? This Is How It Would Happen

Last Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump signed new sanctions into law against Russia, Iran, and North Korea. The legislation was supported so overwhelmingly in Congress that President Trump’s ability to veto the legislation was rendered completely ineffective.

Even anti-interventionist Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard voted in favor of the bill, once again proving that Republicans and Democrats always find common ground when it comes to beating the drums of war against sovereign nations who have taken very little unwarranted hostile action — if any — towards the United States.

But these are just sanctions, not acts of war, right? There’s nothing wrong with economically bullying other countries into submission over non-compliance with the current global order, right?

Not quite.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It appears to me that those in the bowels of power, in the Unhinged, Surveilled States of America, are looking for some war - any war - to happen ahead of the complete financial collapse this country is looking at experiencing, most likely, relatively soon.

All options on table if US violates JCPOA: Iran’s Salehi

The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Ali Akbar Salehi, says Tehran will keep all options on the table if the United States violates the landmark 2015 nuclear deal signed between the Islamic Republic and the P5+1 group of countries.

The US will be the one to suffer if it breaches the deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Salehi said in an interview with Lebanon-based Arabic-language al-Mayadeen news network published on Tuesday.

He added that Iran would reciprocate the US approach to the JCPOA.

As the European Union, China, Russia and other world countries have approved the JCPOA, the US withdrawal from the JCPOA would never have any impact on the endurance of the deal, Salehi said.

The senior Iranian nuclear official emphasized that Washington has to bear responsibility for its measures in contravention of the JCPOA.

Iranian Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh had nationalized the country's oil industry, angering Britain and the oil company that today is known as BP. The British partnered with the CIA to out Mosaddegh and install the Shah, who ruled until his overthrow in the Iranian Revolution of 1979.

US to Respond to Russia's Move to Reduce US Diplomatic Mission by September 1

Talking to reporters after a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the 50th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and Related Meetings, which is currently underway in Manila, Tillerson said that he had informed his Russian counterpart about it, according to the Associated Press.
Tillerson, however, did not specified regarding the US retaliatory measures.

According to Tillerson, the White House wants to continue cooperating with Russia and not to cut off ties due to the existing contradictions.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid sanctions that Congress placed against Russia, North Korea, and Iran, may well have far worse consequences than imagined.

It has already brought North Korea and Iran closer together.

Iran and Russia to enhance military ties after new US sanctions

In light of new US sanctions on Iran and Russia, the two countries have vowed to enhance their already-deep military cooperation, according to state-run media of both countries.

In July, American lawmakers passed a bill placing sanctions on Russia for the country’s alleged interference in the 2016 US presidential election, while also extending those placed on the country for its 2016 invasion and annexation of Crimea. In response, Russia announced its expulsion of more than 700 US embassy employees.

Sanctions on Iran are meant to punish the country for its continued testing and development of ballistic missiles. Iran has lashed out at the US, saying the sanctions are an affront to the landmark nuclear deal reached two years ago, which the Iranians say they are abiding by.

Democrats Help Trump Sabotage Iran Nuclear Deal

The Iran nuclear deal is increasingly under threat. This week, President Trump signed into law new sanctions that, Iran says, violate the agreement.

President Trump has reportedly told aides to come up with ways for him to avoid recertifying Iran's compliance when it comes up next month.

Trump has already told the Wall Street Journal, he personally believes Iran will be non-compliant. This comes, just as Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who oversaw the deal, is sworn in for a second term.

Why Killing the Iran Deal Could Start the next War in the Middle East

There are troubling signs that the Trump administration is itching for a fight with Iran. While the White House recently certified that Tehran was complying with the nuclear deal, fresh sanctions and thinly veiled references to regime change should raise serious concern that the administration will be searching for any excuse to avoid recertifying Iran’s compliance come the next review in October. In fact, President Donald Trump tasked a team in the White House with coming up with reasons to withhold certification at the next opportunity. And in a July 25 interview with the Wall Street Journal Trump prejudged the October outcome, saying he fully expected Iran to be declared noncompliant.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The extent Israel's Bibi Netanyahu is pressuring Trump to make this happen has to be immense; after all, Israel has always wanted its greatest "existential threat" in the Middle East to get "neutralized", but only through the costs of American blood, and American money.

So Mr. President, a word of caution here, please: a US attack against Iran will almost certainly bring Russia into the fray, on the side of Iran; and at this point in its history, the US military does not have the money; the troop strength; the manufacturing; or the weaponry to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war against Russia.

The sanctions Congress has placed against Iran are completely insane, because the actions Iran is taking with its missiles were never deemed illegal under the P5+1 agreement, with which the IAEA (no slouches, intellectually, BTW) have found Iran in full compliance.

North Korea's 'No. 2' official on 10-day visit to Iran that may signal wider military ties

Amid new U.S. sanctions, North Korea's "No. 2" official began a 10-day visit to Iran on Thursday that could result in the two sides expanding their ties.

Iran's official IRNA news agency reported Kim Yong Nam, chairman of the Supreme Assembly of North Korea, arrived Thursday for the weekend inauguration ceremony for Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

But given the head of North Korea's parliament is expected to stay for 10 days in Iran, the trip is being seen as a front for other purposes, including expanding military cooperation. At the same time, Pyongyang is looking for ways to counter sanctions and to boost the hard currency for Kim Jong Un's regime.

Webmaster's Commentary:

US-sanctioned countries see a value in working together, against that entity which has sanctioned them; this is a completely reasonable, and normal development.

And President Trump, a word, please: sanctioning countries (like Iran) for what they absolutely have not done (like alleging them to have violated the P5+1, which the IAEA has stated unequivocally they have not), draws them closer to other US-sanctioned countries like Russia, and soon, China.

So sir, please look for a rapid escalation in the dropping of the US dollar in international trade, and you, and Congress, have no one but yourselves to blame!!

Beijing Opposes Washington’s New Anti-Iran Measures

The statement said Beijing “favors settlement of inter-state differences through mutual respect and equal dialogue.” On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump signed the bill that imposes tougher sanctions against Russia, Iran and North Korea. The US Congress passed the document overwhelmingly last week. Trump said in a statement on the occasion that the document was flawed and some of its provisions were at variance with the US Constitution. Despite his opposition, Trump had no viable option but to sign the legislation, as it had passed the US Senate and House of Representatives with veto-proof margins.

Putin Should Thank US for Sanctions: Russia and Iran Ink $2.5 Billion Deal

Russia and Iran signed a $2.5 billion deal on Monday to start up a much-needed rail wagon production operation. The agreement was forged between the Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO) and Transmashholding, who is Russia’s largest rail equipment supplier. The two sides will set up a new joint venture, which will be 80% owned — although completely funded — by the Russian partner.

Iran is currently in the midst of what could be called an infrastructure building bonanza. Emerging from decades of sanctions which left much of the country’s transportation infrastructure descending into proverbial ruins, Iran has embarked upon a near complete rebuild of its highway and rail networks. The country is expected to add on 15,000 kilometers of new rail lines in the next five years alone — a rapid expansion which is going to require 8,000-10,000 new wagons each year.

Did Iran make a historical mistake by signing a nuclear deal with the US?

These are very conciliatory words from the foreign minister of the most powerful country in the world directed to Kim Jong Un, a puny military dictator of an economically bankrupt country.

On the face of it, one would think that such a speech would allay any fears the North Korean have and that the US would come around to adopting a more reasonable stance. This is more so since there have been open hints that a peaceful settlement of such matters could be accompanied by significant economic incentives.

So, what does the little guy have to lose? On the face of it, it seems to be a perfect win-win situation.

However, during the same briefing, Tillerson went on to say that the US is examining the P5 +1 nuclear agreement with Iran very closely to find out how it can prove that Iran has violated the agreement. This could then become grounds for it to tear up the agreement.

The Mask Is Off: Trump Is Seeking War with Iran

Something extraordinary has happened in Washington. President Donald Trump has made it clear, in no uncertain terms and with no effort to disguise his duplicity, that he will claim that Tehran is cheating on the nuclear deal by October—the facts be damned. In short, the fix is in. Trump will refuse to accept that Iran is in compliance and thereby set the stage for a military confrontation. His advisors have even been kind enough to explain how they will go about this. Rarely has a sinister plan to destroy an arms control agreement and pave the way for war been so openly telegraphed.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Just because something is the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing the Unhinged, Surveilled States of America can do, is absolutely no guarantee that it won't do it.

The Trump Administration, has succumbed to a very dangerous syndrome of blaming countries (like Russia and Iran) for things they did not do, toward establishing a geopolitical narrative against them, then punishing them with sanctions, or...potentially worse, like a military confrontation with either country.

And I would like to politely remind President Trump that if he goes to war against Iran, that may well mean war with Russia.

Russian military and civilian leadership has publicly stated that should Iran be attacked, Russia will come to its aid militarily.

At this point in its history, the US military does not have the weaponry; the troop strength; the manufacturing; or the money to insure a positive outcome in a war with Russia in Iran.

Additionally, I would like to politely suggest to President Trump that such a confrontation will make the Unhinged, Surveilled States of America's leadership look as though it has collectively gone foaming at the mouth, barking dog mad.

The IAEA has a long history of thoroughness, getting the job done, and has commanded a great deal of respect throughout its history.

Are you going to label the members of the IAEA doing these inspections idiots, by your making the claim that Iran is not in compliance?!?

How do you expect to suppress what their inspections conclusions about their inspections of Iran's nuclear sites?!?

Mr. President, if you continue in this dark direction, you will be dragging the American people into a completely unnecessary war, with a horrific cost in American blood and money.

Of course, that's what your BFFs, Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, and Saudi Arabia's Prince Salman urgently wants to see happen; the "neutralisation of their alleged existential threat in the Middle East".

And BTW, Mr. President: have either of them committed troops or arms for such a military misadventure?!?

Thought not.

Top Security Official Warns of US Plot to Discard N. Deal at Iran's Expense

Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani warned that Washington has hatched plots to make Tehran pay the costs of the US withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal. "The US is after withdrawal from the nuclear deal at Iran's expense and certainly we will not give this opportunity to the country. Of course, this doesn’t mean maintaining the nuclear deal at any cost," Shamkhani said on Wednesday. He underlined that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (the nuclear deal) is valuable if all sides respect and implement it and the deal bears the same benefits to all signatories. "In the political field, 5 countries (Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany) have practically stood against the US and all of them have clearly or implicitly consider the US as violator of the nuclear deal and this is a political achievement for Iran gained at the lowest cost".

Iran May Start Giving Drugs To Addicts In Effort To End Illegal Drug Trafficking

Defying Western perceptions, however, the Middle Eastern nation recently announced its plans to move toward decriminalizing drugs in order to combat addiction and weaken the power of drug traffickers. If the plan receives final approval, the country will join a handful of other nations that have opted to help addicts rather than punish them.

The Independent reports that “[b]y allowing the government to give out diluted drugs to addicts, the proposal aims to cut the relationship between drug addicts and drug traffickers.”

The plan would allow the government to distribute methadone to addicts in place of heroin, cannabis, and other commonly used drugs in Iran. It would also allow the government to provide addicts with diluted forms of these commonly used drugs to help wean them off the substances.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Iran won’t give Trump a gift by exiting nuclear deal: Zarif

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said that Iran will not give U.S. President Donald Trump a “gift” by exiting the nuclear agreement.

Exiting the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, is always on the table, however Iran will not take such move when the “main and official parts of the JCPOA are still working”, Zarif said in an interview with the Iran newspaper published on Sunday.

The UN Security Council’s resolution has recognized Iran’s right to exit the JCPOA, because the deal was wrote based on “mutual distrust”, he added.

However, the chief diplomat, said Iran should decide whether remaining in the deal is beneficial or not.

He noted that the European countries seek to remain in the deal and gain its benefits and do not want the U.S. decide for them.

Europeans have adopted positive approach toward the pact during the past months and Iran’s decision depends highly on the European countries’ “behavior”, Zarif remarked.

North Korea or Iran… Where Will President Trump Attack First?

One press report from an unnamed Pentagon source claimed that President Trump “is to order a military strike against North Korea within a year,” after this weekend’s North Korean test of a longer-range missile.

Iran, which along with North Korea and Russia will face new sanctions imposed by Congress and expected to be signed into law by Trump, is also in President Trump’s crosshairs. He was reportedly furious over his Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s certifying that Iran was in compliance with the nuclear deal – even though Iran was in compliance – and he seems determined to push a confrontation.

So whom will Trump attack first? Let’s hope nobody, but with continuing pressure from both Democrats and Republicans over the unproven “Russiagate” allegations, it increasingly looks like he will seek relief by starting a “nice little war.” If he does so, however, his presidency will likely be over and he may end up blundering into a much bigger war in the process.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If President Trump order attacks on North Korea, North Korea could plead for military aid from China, and we could conceivably be at war with China.

If President Trump orders attacks on Iran, Iran could conceivably plead for military aid from Russia, and we could conceivably be at war with Russia.

I am looking at a Faux news crawl, and Rex Tillerson is saying that we would be open to talking with North Korea; but I have to wonder what the quid pro quo will be; he is also saying that the US government doesn't want to send the military to North Korea, or create regime change there.

As Saudi King's Health Wanes, War Architect Bin Salman Set To Become King

Bin Nayef’s ouster was initially reported by international media as having gone “smoothly.” However, it soon emerged that bin Salman had planned the entire affair and that the former Crown Prince, following his acquiescence of the title, was essentially under house arrest. Since then, rumblings have emerged that many in the Saudi royal family, which has long been guided by deference to elders and group consensus, are none too happy with the sudden turn of events in the normally stable kingdom.

A warhawk ascends to the throne

While speculation is rife over how bin Salman is set to manage domestic affairs, there seems to be little disagreement over bin Salman’s likely handling of key foreign policy issues, considering his tenure as Defense Minister has shown his penchant for war, as well as his hotheadedness.

Iran’s IRGC reports 2nd US naval provocation in Persian in less than a week

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has reported a second provocation by US warships in the Persian Gulf waters less than a week after a similar incident in the same region.

Iran poised to launch rocket into space, as North Korea readies another missile test, US officials say

Two enemies of America are poised for upcoming rocket launches, two senior U.S. officials told Fox News, with another North Korean intercontinental ballistic missile launch expected as soon as Wednesday night and Iran on the verge of sending its own vehicle into space.

Iran's Simorgh space-launch vehicle is believed to be carrying a satellite, marking the second time in more than a year that Tehran has attempted to put an operational satellite into orbit -- something the Islamic Republic has never done successfully, according to one of the officials who has not authorized to discuss a confidential assessment.

Iran's last space launch in April 2016 failed to place a satellite into orbit, the official said.

Note the conspiratorial tone of the article, as though there is a "linkage" between North Korea and Iran, because "North Korea and Iran have long been accused of sharing missile technology", an accusation which cannot be proven at this point.

Iran absolutely should NOT be looked at as an enemy; this is only happening because Israel sees it as an "existential threat" whose current government must, ultimately, be wiped off the face of the earth (using only American blood and American money, of course!).

Were it not for this poisonous sentiment, taken from a completely overblown, and thoroughly disingenuous representation of Iran's regional "threat" by Israel's government to that of the government of the US, Iran would be a natural trading partner for the US.

The IAEA has stated that Iran is in absolute, full compliance of the P5+1 accord.

The sanctions placed against Iran are stupid, counterproductive, and punitive; punishing Iran for doing something (like developing defensive missiles, which was NEVER a part of the P5+1 agreement) is not a way to get the country back to the negotiating table on other issues.

The sanctions placed against North Korea are about the same, and will only hasten that country's development of a guided, steerable nuclear device, which can get to where it is aiming.

Sometimes, I look at what the Federal government is doing and it (very painfully) reminds me; just because something is the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing the US government could be doing, is utterly no guarantee that it will not do it!!

CIA Gives More Power to Spies to Bolster Intelligence Operations. Pompeo: China, not Russia, poses greatest long-term threat

U.S. Faces Growing Threats From China, North Korea

Over the longer term, however, Pompeo singled out China as the most serious security challenge.

While China, Russia, and Iran all are expected to pose significant problems in the future, China is a greater threat because of its robust economy and growing military power—both aimed against the United States.

"I think China has the capacity to present the greatest rivalry to America of any of those over the medium and long term," he said.

China's military is building up forces that are aimed at countering U.S. power projection around the world, he said.

"So you see that, whether it's going on in the South China or East China Sea, or the work they're doing in other parts of the world," Pompeo said.

In acquiring foreign technology, he noted: "If you look at them, they are probably trying either to steal our stuff, or make sure they can defeat it. And most often, both."

Webmaster's Commentary:

China's burgeoning economy, and its ability to make things people want to actually buy, is definitely a problem for the US government; please remember that the iphone...is made in China.

China's weaponry is on point to match, or exceed the capabilities of US-made weaponry, because the culture of the military/industrial complex in this country has become decadent, to the point where CEOS of the companies making our weapons, planes, and ships, believe it is perfectly acceptable to deliver products so late as to be obsolete by the time they are field-tested; to deliver products which absolutely cannot perform as advertised (think: Lockheed Martin's F-35), and have cost overruns which make the budgets for these items wildly out of control.

IF we are going to have a tiny chance to defeat the Chinese in military combat, which may well be coming, to attempt to destroy the yuan, this has to change.

As those of you who read this blog understand, I detest war as a method of resolving geopolitical conflicts; that being said, when our military is tasked with being at war, they deserve the best the military/industrial complex can provide.

And right now, they are not getting that, and not by a long shot.

US Congress following Israeli anti-Iran agenda: Pundit

The US House of Representatives has voted overwhelmingly to impose new sanctions against Iran. The lower chamber of Congress approved the bill on Tuesday. The move came days after the Donald Trump administration certified, for the second time, to Congress that Iran was in compliance of the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers.

Press TV has interviewed Scott Rickard, a political analyst and former American intelligence linguist from Tampa, Florida, and Jim Walsh, a research associate with MIT Security Studies Program at Massachusetts Institute from Boston, for their thoughts about the imposition of new sanctions against Iran.

Rickard lashed out at US lawmakers, saying the financial backers of the congressmen are forcing them to approve anti-Iran bills.

Iran Slams Provocation as US Ships Fire on Patrol Boat

Iranian officials were deeply critical today of an incident in which US warships fired “warning shots” at a small Iranian patrol boat that was operating off the coast of Iran. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard called it a “provocation” by US forces.

One of the American ships that fired on the smaller Iranian boat
US Navy officials claimed the Iranian boat didn’t “follow the rules of the road,” and was a collision risk, though they conceded the boat was never less than 150 yards from any US warship in the first place.

This has been a recurring problem, with the US making a point of having a number of warships parked off the Iranian coast, and getting furious every time Iran’s own navy sends ships anywhere near them, even though the Iranian ships are usually in their own territorial water.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It appears that the US Navy has been given its marching orders; create a provocation, get the Iranians to react militarily, so that the US has its excuse to open fire against it.

It appears that in this incident, the Iranians were the model of restraint.

Iran to face ‘big problems’ if it does not adhere to nuclear deal: Trump

US President Donald Trump has threatened Iran with “big, big problems” if Tehran fails to comply with the 2015 nuclear agreement.

His veiled warning comes a week after the White House certified to Congress that the Islamic Republic was complying with the agreement it signed with the P5+1 group of countries -- the US, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany.

"If that deal doesn’t conform to what it’s supposed to conform to, it's going to be big, big problems for them. That I can tell you. Believe me," Trump said during a speech in Youngstown, Ohio, on Tuesday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The IAEA just verified yet again that Iran is in full compliance with the terms of the deal. It is the US that has not fulfilled all of their obligations by unfreezing Iranian assets and lifting sanctions.

BEX ALERT - Iran will soon have ICBMs armed with nukes by way of North Korea. Team Trump must act now

Here’s a prediction by yours truly that you can take to the bank: In just a few years Iran will have intercontinental ballistic missiles, or ICBMs, that can attack targets all over the Middle East, Europe and the United States.

And it might all be thanks to the rogue state the Trump administration has labelled the biggest national security threat of our time: North Korea.

Oh, and to twist the knife in a little deeper, those missiles could be armed with nuclear weapons—once the Iran deal expires. That is, unless America puts a stop to this threat once and for all.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Well, if you really feel that way about it ... here's your rifle, and here's your parachute. Watch your head climbing into the transport and we'll call North Korea and Iran and tell them you are on your way to kick their butts all by yourself.

But we the people remember all the times the corporate media has lied us into wars.

We remember how Saddam didn't really have Nuclear weapons.

We remember that Iran wasn't actually building nuclear weapons.

We remember that Iran has not initiated a war of conquest in over 200 years while the US cannot seem to go for 6 months without bombing, invading, drone-striking, or regime-changing other nations that have done nothing to deserve such treatment.

We remember that there were no torpedoes in the Gulf of Tonkin, or a Spanish mine in Havana Harbor.

We remember that the Lusitania was in fact smuggling weapons to Great Britain in violation of the United States claim of neutrality, thus making her a legitimate target of war.

We remember that Roosevelt goaded the Japanese into the attack on Pearl Harbor.

We also remember that for all the talk about Iraq's nuclear weapons, and Iran's nuclear weapons, and North Korea's nuclear weapons, and Disneyland's nuclear weapons, that in all of human history one and only one nation has actually used nuclear weapons of mass destruction against the civilians of another country, and the nation that committed that atrocity is the United States.

Lesson for America: New Iraq-Iran Defense Deal Shows Regime Change Doesn't Pay

The recent agreement signed by Iraq and Iran on military cooperation should serve as a lesson to the US that regime change doesn't pay, Dr. Foad Izadi, Assistant Professor with the Faculty of World Studies at the University of Tehran, told Radio Sputnik.

Iraq and Iran have agreed to boost bilateral military cooperation in several areas, including anti-terrorism and the fight against extremism. Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan and his Iraqi counterpart Erfan al-Hiyali signed the memorandum of understanding on defense in Tehran on Sunday, Iranian news agency IRNA reported.

"Extending cooperation and exchanging experiences in fighting terrorism and extremism, border security, and educational, logistical, technical and military support are among the provisions of this memorandum," IRNA reported.

The agreement is bad news for the US, which is opposed to Iranian influence in Iraq and had been planning on expanding its own military facilities in Iraq and Syria.

US worried as Iran, Iraq forge close security ties

Iraq, fresh from liberating Mosul in its most serious blow to Takfiri terrorists, is reaching out to Iran which, according to most senior Iraqi officials, prevented Baghdad from falling to Daesh.

Iraqi Defense Minister Erfan al-Hiyali was in Tehran on Sunday, signing an agreement to step up military cooperation and the fight against "terrorism and extremism".

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari was in Baghdad where Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri, a Sunni Muslim, stressed the need for the two neighbors to continue their cooperation in fighting terrorism.

WHITE HOUSE INDICATES TRUMP WILL SIGN NEW RUSSIAN SANCTIONS BILL; EU READY TO RETALIATE

The White House indicated Sunday President Donald Trump would sign a sweeping Russia sanctions measure, which the House could take up this week, that requires him to get Congress’ permission before lifting or easing the economic penalties against Moscow, reports The Washington Post.

Lawmakers are scheduled to consider the sanctions package as early as Tuesday, and the bill could be sent to Trump before Congress breaks for the August recess. The bill also calls for sanctions against Iran and North Korea. "The administration is supportive of being tough on Russia, particularly in putting these sanctions in place,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told ABC News. “The original piece of legislation was poorly written but we were able to work with the House and Senate. And the administration is happy with the ability to do that and make those changes that were necessary. And we support where the legislation is now." Notes The New York Times:

Webmaster's Commentary:

These sanctions again demonstrate (as though the world needed more proof of it) that the Unhinged, Surveilled States of America are absolutely, idiotically brilliant at punishing countries for what they have not done.

Iran has not violated the P5+1 agreements; the IAEA, which inspects their facilities on a consistent basis, has stated, innumerable times, that Iran continues to completely observe this agreement; yet, they are getting punished as though they were in violation of the agreement. And the domestic missiles which they are now producing, were never a part of the P5+1 agreement to begin with.

With Secretary of State Tillerson openly talking about "regime change" in Tehran being the favored US outcome here, can you really blame them for wanting to have defensive missiles?!?

Russia did not manipulate the 2016 elections, nor did they "annex" Crimea. When the US -sponsored coup in Ukraine threw duly elected Yanukovych under the proverbial bus, and Poroshenko was "anointed" president of Ukraine, the Crimeans realised that there was no legitimate government whatsoever in Kiev. So they held a free and fair referendum, asking the Crimean people if they wanted to stay with Ukraine, or petition Russia to become a part of the Russian Federation. At an overwhelming 97%, Crimeans voted to petition the Russian Federation to become a member, and the Russian Federation accepted their request. Yet, Russia is being punished for two things it absolutely did not do, and for which there is utterly no evidence.

And North Korea?!? The only thing these sanctions against North Korea are going to accomplish are to spur Kim Jung Un on to a faster development of a steerable, functional nuclear bomb.

Great work, Congress!! Way to go!!

House And Senate Reach Deal On Sanctions For Russia, Iran And North Korea

Congress will consider imposing new sanctions on Russia and Iran as well as North Korea, after Republicans and Democrats agreed to changes that will allow the legislation to move ahead. The bill also aims to prevent President Trump from relaxing sanctions without lawmakers' consent.

An earlier form of the sanctions legislation had sailed through the Senate with a 97-2 vote last month. But that legislation focused only on Russia and Iran. It then lost momentum in the House after representatives said they wanted to include North Korea. That conflict has been resolved, lawmakers say.

Our Relationship with Saudi Arabia Is an Embarrassment

When he was 17, five years ago, Mujtaba al-Sweikat committed the “crime” of participating in a pro-democracy rally in Saudi Arabia.

Instead of attending Western Michigan University, as he had planned to do that fall, he was put in prison. Reports are now leaking out of Saudi Arabia that al-Sweikat will soon be beheaded for his transgression.

It’s just the latest reminder that Saudi Arabia is America’s worst best friend. The U.S. does get something out of its relationship with Saudi Arabia; there is real intelligence sharing, and the Kingdom has used its power over OPEC to drive oil prices down when we want to humiliate Russia or accomplish some other goal. That’s not nothing.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As a citizen of a country colluding with Saudi Arabia in its commission of war crimes in Yemen, I am deeply troubled by the US's (and the President's) BFF relationship to the Saudi monarchy, and the Saudi government.

And I will warn you: all these images are very graphic, but as a Christian witness to the evil being visited upon Yemen by Saudi Arabia, I think it is very important for the readers of this site to understand what is being done with their tax dollars, and in their name, in Yemen.

The Saudi bombings are killing and maiming Yemeni children for life.

Images: Yemeni children killed and maimed for life.

By blockading the Yemeni ports with US military assistance, the Saudis are insuring the Yemeni children are now dying from malnutrition.

Images: Yemeni children dying from complications of malnutrition

And when you have a starved, bomb-ravaged population, is you do now in Yemen, disease is sure to follow; cholera is now well-established in Yemen, and the diagnosed cases are right around 300,00 as I type this.

Cholera cases in Yemen pass the 300,000 mark, and climbing.

Saudi Arabia's Prince Salman did pledge 66 million dollars to deal with the cholera epidemic, to appear "humanitarian", even as his government slaughters Yemen's people with bombs and bullets.

Saudis, at War in Yemen, Give Country $66.7 Million in Cholera Relief

But did he actually give it to an aid organisation which actually understand how to get the job done, like the Red Crescent, or Doctors Without Borders?!?

With an intense cynicism that almost boggles the mind, Prince Salman donated this money to the UN, which is dysfunctional, dystopic, and disorganised beyond belief. He clearly understood that by the time that aid ever reached its target, the relief effort would be way too little, and way too late.

Oh, and did I mention that the Saudis are using DU weapons in Yemen?!?

Images: Saudis using depleted uranium weapons in Yemen

And of course, these weapons are having the absolutely same effect on the people and children in Yemen as they did in Falluja Iraq; massive spikes in cancers, birth defects, and still births are being experienced now by the Yemeni people.

Images, courtesy of Ruptly, of infants with severe birth defects, due to Saudi use of depleted uranium in Yemen.

It is profoundly disturbing for me to understand just how completely morally comfortable our government, the Saudi government, and our and their military are with this genocide in Yemen.

As both a Christian and an American citizen, I very logically must ask about the moral cost of this relationship between the US and Saudi Arabia, and the dark, bitter fruit it may well bear in the future, where the US government may use Saudi Arabia as a proxy antagonist to Iran, in a potential war against that country.

Is Iran in Our Gun Sights Now?

In 2007, all 17 U.S. intelligence agencies declared with high confidence Iran had no nuclear weapons program. They stated this again in 2011. Under the nuclear deal, Iran exported almost all of its uranium, stopped enriching to 20 percent, shut down thousands of centrifuges, poured concrete into the core of its heavy water reactor, and allows U.N. inspectors to crawl all over every facility.

Is Iran, despite all this, operating a secret nuclear weapons program? Or is this War Party propaganda meant to drag us into another Mideast war?

To ascertain the truth, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee should call the heads of the CIA and DIA, and the Director of National Intelligence, to testify in open session.

We are told we are menaced also by a Shiite Crescent rising and stretching from Beirut to Damascus, Baghdad and Tehran.

And who created this Shiite Crescent?

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unfortunately, just because the creation of yet another war in the Middle East would be the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing the Unhinged Surveilled States of America could do right now, is absolutely no guarantee that it won't haul off, and do it.

Logic, rationality, and being able to think something through to its logical conclusion, are no longer requisite skills for those creating foreign policy in DC; what we seem to have happening here is a combination of "magical thinking, coupled with the used of a dart board, in the creation of US foreign policy.

Is Iran in Our Gun Sights Now?

“Iran must be free. The dictatorship must be destroyed. Containment is appeasement and appeasement is surrender.”

Thus does our Churchill, Newt Gingrich, dismiss, in dealing with Iran, the policy of containment crafted by George Kennan and pursued by nine U.S. presidents to bloodless victory in the Cold War.

Why is containment surrender? “Because freedom is threatened everywhere so long as this dictatorship stays in power,” says Gingrich.

But how is our freedom threatened by a regime with 3 percent of our GDP that has been around since Jimmy Carter was president?

Webmaster's Commentary:

Especially when you recall that Iran has not initiated a war of conquest against another country in 200 years!

‘(…) any military operation against Iran will likely be very unpopular around the world and require the proper international context (…) The best way to minimize international opprobrium and maximize support (however, grudging or covert) is to strike only when there is a widespread conviction that the Iranians were given but then rejected a superb offer- one so good that only a regime determined to acquire nuclear weapons and acquire them for the wrong reasons would turn it down. Under those circumstances, the United States (or Israel) could portray its operations as taken in sorrow, not anger, and at least some in the international community would conclude that the Iranians “brought it on themselves” by refusing a very good deal.’

But the president has fiercely criticized the agreement, calling it "the worst deal ever." Trump made that position known in meetings with his top security aides and advisers, the Times reported.

In an hour-long meeting last week, for example, Trump spent 55 minutes telling some of his highest-ranking security advisers that he wanted to abandon the Iran deal.

But top Trump administration members, including Defense Secretary James Mattis, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, pressed the president to maintain the agreement for now.

Iran to face consequences for breaching spirit of N-deal: US

The Trump administration told Congress for a second time Monday that Iran would face consequences for breaching "the spirit" of nuclear deal.

President Donald Trump, who lambasted the 2015 pact as a candidate, gave himself more time to decide whether to scuttle it or let it stand. Instead, senior Trump administration officials sought to emphasize their deep concerns about Iran's non-nuclear behavior and vowed that those transgressions won't go unpunished.

The officials also said the US would slap Tehran with new sanctions penalizing it for developing ballistic missiles and other activity.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and "the entire administration judge that Iran is unquestionably in default of the spirit" of the agreement, one official said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The IAEA just got done reporting that Iran is fully in compliance with the Pf+1 deal, but the US still wants to go to war with Iran because it has violated the "spirit" of the deal (whatever that means) by engaging in activities never part of the original deal.

US state Department to make announcement about Iran nuclear deal

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is set to make an announcement on Iran's nuclear agreement "very shortly."

White House spokesman Sean Spicer made the announcement on Monday.

"The secretary of state will have an announcement very shortly on that deal," Spicer told reporters. "I think you all know that the president has made very clear that he thought this was a bad deal, a bad deal for the United States."

ISRAEL REJECTS US, RUSSIA SYRIAN CEASEFIRE DEAL – PRESENTS LIST OF DEMANDS

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made clear today that he and his government opposes the ongoing ceasefire in Southern Syria, a deal negotiated between the United States and Russia, and which has continued to hold throughout the past week.

Netanyahu made the comments during a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, declaring himself totally opposed to the ceasefire. Israeli officials revealed that the objections are primarily related to Iran still having forces inside Syria supporting the Assad government.

Israeli officials revealed that the objections are primarily related to Iran still having forces inside Syria supporting the Assad government.

Officials also say that during the US-Russia negotiations which led to the deal, Netanyahu presented the two sides with a “list of demands,” mostly insisting that Shi’ite forces couldn’t be allowed in southern Syria at all and that Iran could not be allowed to “consolidate” its position in Syria.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, a word please: neither you, nor your government, are in any kind if legitimate position to make these "demands" on Russia, the Syrian Government, Iran, or the United States.

I would like to politely remind you that Russia (and some elements of Iranian forces) are in Syria at that government's invitation; Israel was not invited at all to be here.

And BTW, sir, none of these demands legitimizes your illegal occupation of Syria's Golan Heights; not now, and not ever!!

Iranian Airport in Central Syria, Israel Alludes to Targeting it

Israel uncovered on Friday that Iran has lately leased from the Assad regime an airport in central Syria, hinting it would target it.

Israeli military sources asserted that Tel Aviv would not allow Tehran to lease an airport in Syria, and would also confront current Syrian-Iranian negotiations to establish a land base capable of supporting Iranian-linked fighters.

According to the same sources, the land base would be able to back 5,000 Iranian militiamen believed to be mercenaries from Afghanistan and Pakistan under the command of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

Iran says jails U.S. dual national for 10 years for spying

An Iranian court has sentenced a graduate student from Princeton University to 10 years in jail on spying charges, Iran's judiciary spokesman said on Sunday, the latest case involving dual citizens held on security charges in the country.

Xiyue Wang, 37, was accused of "spying under the cover of research," said Mizan, the Iranian judiciary's official news site. Wang was born in China but was naturalized as an American citizen.

Trump’s Yemen Policy Is Immoral and Counterproductive

Slaughter of the Houthis, indiscriminate bombing, famine, cholera — as recompense to the Saudis for the Iran deal? In his final year in office, President Obama’s foreign policy featured the bombing of seven Islamic countries by the U.S. military. Despite fears (and hopes) that President Trump would withdraw America from the world stage and institute a fortress-America foreign policy, the new guard has put Obama’s foreign policy on autopilot. The most significant adjustment Trump made was to give more discretion to his generals. The rate of bombing has increased in all seven nations.

Nowhere is this policy more craven and disastrous than in Yemen, where the U.S. has backed Saudi Arabia’s crusade to re-install Sunni general Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi in power.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As a Christian witness to this US-enabled carnage and genocide, I am profoundly unhappy at being a citizen of a country which is absolutely, and unquestionably, colluding with the Saudi Government and Military in war crimes in Yemen.

If both Mike and I were much younger, and had anything approximating some tangible assets, we would migrate to somewhere relatively civilized, where collusion in war crimes just wasn't something the government of that country did; unfortunately, we are too old - and broke - to be able to accomplish that at this point in our lives.

The Saudis are assassinating and maiming Yemeni infants and children with wild abandon.

Images: children killed and maimed for life from Saudi bombings

Because the Saudis, enabled by the US military, have blockaded Yemen's ports, so no food can get in, Yemeni children are dying by the scores from complications of malnutrition.

Oh, and did I mention that the Saudi military is using depleted uranium munitions in Yemen?!?

This, of course, is creating precisely the same kind of cancers, stillbirths, and massive birth defects, as it did in Fallujah, Iraq.

And now, as one might imagine would take place, cholera has firmly taken hold in Yemen, with over 300,000 cases, and the disease spreading almost exponentially through the population.

Images: Yemenis suffering one of the worst cholera outbreaks in history

We cannot know the degree to which the Saudis may have weaponised this disease; but it is pretty easy to introduce it into water resources where local people gather water, and then will get deathly ill from contamination.

And Trump's new BFF is Saudi Prince Salman?!? A man who kills and maims Yemeni children with indiscriminate attacks?!? A man who orders Yemeni ports blocked, so the children of Yemen are dying of malnutrition?!?

Mr. President, I understand the the arms sales to Saudi Arabia are good for the American military complex; but sir, this move was at a steep cost to your and this country's soul and integrity, when you know, with an absolute certainty, that these munitions will be used to assassinate more Yemeni infants, children, women, and the medically fragile elderly?!?

Oh, yes; he did give a 66 million dollar donation to the UN to fight the cholera epidemic, to "appear to have done something the slightest bit humanitarian" in a country where his military are slaughtering Yemeni people by the hundreds as I type this:

Saudi Prince Salman donates 66 million dollars to the UN to fight the cholera epidemic

But the Prince is cynically aware that the UN, and its agencies, move more slowly than do frozen molasses in January; by the time UN aid actually gets to Yemen (if it can get there at all) it will be far too little, and far too late to curtail the outbreak.

If he had really wanted aid to get there more quickly, he would have approached either Doctors without Borders, or the International Committee of the Red Crescent (the Middle East's equivalent the American Red Cross), and guaranteed them safe passage into Yemen.

And President Trump, a final work here; your hated and loathing of Iran is completely misplaced, and has no basis in reality. Iran does not pose a threat to the United States; they just want to continue living their lives, unimpeded by the dictates of other countries.

For Rex Tillerson to make public statements to the effect that the goal of the US foreign policy in Iran is to create "regime change" in Tehran, is utterly morally irresponsible.

Iran has, and continues, to live up to its responsibilities as a signator to the P5+1 treaty.

And Mr. President, if you have not seen the following documentary, this has to be on your "must see" list, and soon, please:

Trump to Admit Iran Is Complying With Nuclear Deal

While President Trump campaigned repeatedly on the idea of the US pulling out of the P5+1 nuclear deal in Iran, much of that has hinged on being able to claim in some way that Iran isn’t keeping up its end of the bargain. The problem is, they are.

Facing a deadline of Monday, President Trump is going to have to re-certify to Congress that Iran is totally complying with its obligations under the P5+1 deal, which effectively delays his expected effort to force a “renegotiation,” an idea that no other party of the treaty seems at all interested in.

The fact that Iran is complying with the deal is no surprise, of course, as the IAEA issues monthly reports to that effect anyhow. Still, it wasn’t a slam dunk that the administration was going to tell the truth, and there was speculation that they might withhold the re-certification.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, a word, please; attempting to double down on lies to cause the P5+1 deal to collapse, as did your Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, is just plain counterproductive, not to mention painfully embarrassing, when the IAEA, which is constantly inspecting Iran's sites, states plainly that it continues to be in compliance with the deal.
