Hamas marks anniversary of its founder’s assassination

Hamas yesterday celebrated the 15th anniversary of the assassination of Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, the founder of the movement, vowing to continue the path of resistance until the liberation of Palestine.

In a statement issued yesterday, Hamas said: “We will continue the resistance path of Sheikh Ahmad Yassin. Resistance is a legitimate right guaranteed by all religious and international law, in the forefront of which is armed resistance, which is a strategic choice to protect and regain Palestinian rights.”

The statement also said that Yassin put the issue of prisoners on top of Hamas’ agenda and exerted much effort to liberate them.

“Hamas now bears this responsibility and will not let the Israeli occupation continue to inflict suffering on our prisoners,” the statement said, stressing that it would use all means necessary to liberate those prisoners held by Israel.
