Cash for Clunkers: Good for dealers, automakers, bad for taxpayers

Car sales and research site Edmunds.com estimated today that each new car sold under the Cash for Clunkers government subsidy program cost the American taxpayers more than $24,000.

Edmunds estimated that 82 percent of vehicle sales during the program would have happened anyway (then or at some point in the near future), so the program only enticed about 18 percent of the buyers who participated in the program, which moved 690,000 new vehicles off the lots of very relieved dealers.

This means that the much-touted government program only got 125,000 new vehicles on the road than already would have gotten there without a government subsidy.

Great article about Swine Flu.

This has been a big week for swine flu vaccines. With the money machine in full swing to get the untested swine flu vaccine out to the public ASAP, it's hard to keep up with the level of deception in mainstream media. But we'll give it a try.

One final important revelation about the AP article, and perhaps the agenda of the Director of the NIH:

"Younger children simply don't have as mature an immune system," Fauci explained. "So a first dose of vaccine against a flu strain they've never experienced acts as an introduction for their immune system, and a booster shortly thereafter revs up that immune response."

In another alarming sign, cadets at the West Point military academy are now undergoing a crash course of Russian language and culture. Just like they started learning Arabic three years prior to the US-led invasion of Iraq.

Preparing to grab the Caspian oil wealth, Washington will do this leaning on its bases in Romania and Bulgaria and by stoking up instability in the Caucasus. Why? To be able send its peacekeepers there to ensure the safe transportation of Caspian oil and gas. And here the American contingent in Romania and Bulgaria may come in very handy indeed.

US backs Pakistani military campaign in Waziristan $7.5 billion in aid aimed at propping up unstable U.S. client state

Under great pressure from the United States to attack Taliban and tribal fighters in the border regions with Afghanistan, Pakistan has launched a large-scale assault on the tribal region in the northwest of the country. Embroiled in a deep civil crisis, the military campaign is likely to further strain the stability of the U.S.-client state.

According to the New York Times, the Obama administration rushed hundreds of millions of dollars of arms to Pakistan in the last month, including transport helicopters, spare parts for attack helicopters and night-vision equipment for F15 pilots. The Pentagon is also relaying targeting information collected by U.S. drone aircraft to the Pakistani military.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With Afghanistan in ruins (except for the reinvigorated drug trade), the US is now happy to engineer a complete collapse in Pakistan.

With an attack on Iran off the table (at least for the moment), look to Pakistan to be the next target/victim in the US's "war on terror".

National Wave of Privatization Scandals and Disasters Ignored By Media, Concealed From Public

The real costs of the $17 trillion bankster bailout, along with the untold trillions more spent for wars in the Middle East and America's global empire have come home. States and counties can no longer pay for the ordinary functions of government. Cities and towns can't repair streets and bridges, maintain water systems or fund libraries. Since the war and the bailouts are massively unpopular, you could say the ultimate cause of it all is a lack of democracy.

But the solution local and state governments, encouraged by Wall Street and the business class automatically reach for is even less democratic, and far more costly. That so-called solution is privatization of public assets and even the core functions of government.

Arrogant US Misses the Message From Pakistan’s People

There has always been in American foreign policy circles a virus called arrogance, caused by the hereditary assumption that Americans know better than others. Surprisingly, this does not always prove the case, but the condition seems highly resistant to treatment, even by experience.

A vocal part of the Pakistani population clearly doesn’t want the United States in their country, and it doesn’t even want the aid the United States is sending. A notorious fact in the past has been that civilian and popular opposition to the U.S. was based on the assumption that American aid was meant to keep military governments in place and buy military cooperation with American policy.

According to human rights lawyer John Sifton, the CIA tortured some of its detainees in the War on Terror so severely that it had to take measures to keep them alive so they could continue being tortured.

That's the one that only had a few dozen detainees at any given time -- but it's the one that saw the biggest abuses, the most serious forms of torture."

Pfizer in court again, this time for Wyeth's menopause treatment Prempro

On Monday, a Philadelphia jury, which had earlier found a link between a woman's breast cancer and the hormone-replacement drug she was taking, also found that Wyeth hid and ignored evidence of the drug's potential cancer risk. The jury awarded Connie Barton an undisclosed amount of punitive-damages.

Barton's case is one of 9,000 Prempro lawsuits across the country. About 1,500 are pending in Philadelphia alone, opening up the door to more potential liabilities for Pfizer, which just recently was ordered to pay a record $2.3 billion fine for illegally marketing painkiller Bextra, which is now off the market.

Afghanistan a Success – Time to Come Home!

There is a reason the generals are not in charge of our country – by design, anyway. The Gateses and McCrystals of the world are the real barbarians, personally and professionally locked on a treadmill that demands ever more blood and more glory, at any cost. With the publicly accepted mission in Afghanistan accomplished, Americans cannot afford to entertain the vain fantasies of flag officers who fear nothing but their own oblivion, and will sacrifice any number of lives and all measures of treasure in pursuit of personal relevance.

Webmaster's Commentary:

While "Al Qaeda" is a fantasy concocted by the American government, and Osama bin Laden is dead, getting the heck out of Afghanistan right now is one of the most intelligent things the US could do right now.

Obama’s Defense Bill Restarts Gitmo Tribunals

With less than three months left to make good on his promise to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay within one year and virtually no effort made so far to do so, President Barack Obama has signed the military funding bill which will effectively restart military tribunals at the facility.

Today’s move finalizes a plan concocted by the president in May, which would make a handful of cosmetic changes to the tribunal system, giving detainees a little control over their legal counsel and barring certain types of hearsay evidence.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unflipping believable!

The only reason for military tribunals is that most of the cases against these incarcerated prisoners of war would fall completely apart, under normal American jurisprudence.

Now that times have supposedly changed, it's time to ask: why hasn't President Obama abrogated Bush's controversial executive orders? If Obama truly seeks a break with the lawlessness of the prior administration, what better way to enact it?

Simply put, no one man--not even a nice, articulate, charismatic one--ought to claim the right to suspend a person's constitutional rights. Not in America. Certainly no one man--not even a young, handsome, likeable one--should be able to have anyone he wants whacked. Even in dictatorships, the right of life and death is reserved for judges and juries operating under a system purportedly designed to support impartiality and a search for the truth.

Prosecutors Turn Tables on Student Journalists

For more than a decade, classes of students at Northwestern University’s journalism school have been scrutinizing the work of prosecutors and the police. The investigations into old crimes, as part of the Medill Innocence Project, have helped lead to the release of 11 inmates, the project’s director says, and an Illinois governor once cited those wrongful convictions as he announced he was commuting the sentences of everyone on death row.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is intimidation, pure and simple.

This is an attempt at vindictive payback for the fact that 11 inmates were cleared by the work of this university team, demonstrating the glaringly sloppy work on the part of the prosecution staff which got these people convicted in the first place.

Forecasting The Fate Of Mysteries

The more we learn about the universe, the fewer signs we see of an intelligent designer. Isaac Newton thought that an explanation of how the sun shone would have to be made in terms of the action of God. Now we know that the sun shines because of the heat produced by the conversion of hydrogen into helium in its core. People who expect to find evidence of divine action in nature, in the origin of the universe or in the laws that govern matter are probably going to be disappointed.

Lack of adequate health care may have contributed to the deaths of some 17,000 US children over the past two decades, according to a study released by the Johns Hopkins Children's Center.

One measure of any society is how it takes care - or doesn't take care - of its most fragile, and voiceless parts of its population.

That would be its children and its elderly medically fragile.

How 56.5 Million Households Live: $52,000 Median Household Income in 2009 Crushed by a Decade of Debt. A Decade of Lost Wages and Financial Debt Servitude.

The recent American Consumer Survey had some thought provoking data regarding the typical American household. Wages over the past decade have been stagnant. At least that is what is propagated in the common datasets but in reality, not only has income not grown it has actually declined. The U.S. dollar during this time has been crushed as well. So incomes moving in a horizontal fashion may appear to be steady for Americans, but in reality the purchasing power has fallen due to inflation (not recently) and the declining dollar. Think of the rising cost of housing, healthcare, food, and automobiles. In the last decade, even after the housing bust, prices are still higher yet incomes still lag.

British and French submarines collide!

UK newspaper The Sun has reported that a British nuclear submarine has been in a collision with a French counterpart in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

Britain's HMS Vanguard and France's Le Triomphant are believed to have crashed into each other nearly two weeks ago, on February 3 or 4, but only now has the incident been made public.

Councils get ‘Al Capone’ power to seize assets over minor offences

Draconian police powers designed to deprive crime barons of luxury lifestyles are being extended to councils, quangos and agencies to use against the public, The Times has learnt.

The right to search homes, seize cash, freeze bank accounts and confiscate property will be given to town hall officials and civilian investigators employed by organisations as diverse as Royal Mail, the Rural Payments Agency and Transport for London.

U.S. lawmakers: Block Goldstone report

Top Democratic and Republican foreign affairs leaders in the U.S. Congress are calling on the Obama administration to quash the Goldstone report.

A non-binding resolution introduced last Friday by U.S. Rep. Howard Berman (D-Calif.), the chairman of the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), the committee's ranking Republican, "calls on the President and the Secretary of State to strongly and unequivocally oppose any further consideration of the 'Report of the United Nations Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict' and any other measures stemming from this report in multilateral fora."

Webmaster's Commentary:

"We the members of Congress do hereby abase ourselves and render obeisance to mighty Israel and her war crimes! Where's my check?"

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen has been PAID $115,740 by pro-Israel PACs. She gets the money and she opens her mouth. I think in some parts of the US you can get arrested for that if you are in a motel room.

Howard Berman has been PAID $72,050 by pro-Israel PACs.

For this money, they will sign themselves on as accessories to War Crimes.

Radical mosque leader killed in FBI shootout

After a 2-year investigation, FBI agents descended on a Dearborn warehouse Wednesday hoping to capture the suspected head of an Islamic fundamentalist group.

The scene quickly turned chaotic, however, in a shootout that caused agents to gun down Luqman Ameen Abdullah, 53, leader of the Masjid Al-Haqq mosque in Detroit.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Read this story carefully. There is no actual crime involved here. The FBI just gunned down a clergyman for no real reason at all, other than he was Muslim. This time they didn't even bother planting a fake bomb on him.

Over 60 face charges from anti-Israel protests

A total of 63 people are due to appear in court later this week on charges arising out of demonstrations in London against Israel’s slaughter of over 1,300 Palestinians in Gaza at the turn of the year.

Brzezinski Says Ignore US Public

During a subsequent question-and-answer period, I asked Brzezinski, former National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter, why he had provided no rationale for his first rule. I asked him why such a rule should be considered uncontroversial when approximately half of Americans oppose the occupation of Afghanistan. I asked how he would respond to the arguments of a US diplomat who just resigned in protest.

Brzezinski's response would make Dick "So?" Cheney proud. He responded that it was understandable but that a lot of people are weak and don't know any better, and they should be ignored.

Iran hands over response to UN-proposed nuclear deal

Israel on Thursday blasted the uranium exchange deal with Iran as one that would only delay by one year Tehran's alleged progress toward a nuclear weapon.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is why nobody wants to deal with Israel (or the US) any more. NO matter what concessions are made, it is never enough.

Israel, who has never signed the NNPT and does not allow IAEA inspections, wants the world to see Iran, which HAS signed the NNPT and DOES allow IAEA inspections, as the villain.

And the fact that Israel is no longer able to shape global perceptions to her own design is the reason we are seeing an entire nation throw a tantrum.

20 Sobering Statistics/Reasons As To Why We Must End the Wars and Save More of Our Soldier Children and Middle Eastern Citizens From Suffering And Dying

Obama, eager to win some influence on health care reform with the Republican neocons, has begun to get approval from them for the escalation of the war in Afghanistan and the non-withdrawal withdrawal in Iraq.

How much longer will we allow the continuation of this trauma and destruction to the American citizenry as well as citizens of the Middle East? How many more fresh hells until we earnestly and massively protest? Our government not only sadistically and lawlessly tortured Middle Eastern detainees, it continues to betray and exploit its own patriotic youth, putting them in harm’s way to be traumatized mentally and physically, wounded and/or killed. They are trapped in hell. They are crying out for help or giving up to suicide, addiction, emotional illness.

Ahmadinejad says West now cooperating with Iran

The Iranian president says the West and Iran are now cooperating on the nuclear issue on the international scene.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the West has moved "from confrontation to interaction" with Iran over its controversial uranium enrichment, which he called the nation's "inalienable right."

Speaking to a rally on Thursday in the northeastern city of Mashhad, Ahmadinejad said "ground has been paved for nuclear cooperation" and that Tehran is ready to work on nuclear fuel supplies and technical know-how with the U.N. nuclear watchdog.

The speech came as Iran was to respond to a U.N.-drafted plan on shipping the country's low enriched uranium abroad for further enrichment. The plan curtails any covert nucelar arms making abilities by Iran.

Iran's president appears to back nuclear proposal

Iran's president today appeared to lend support to an International Atomic Energy Agency proposal to ship the bulk of his country's enriched uranium abroad, casting it as a victory for Iranian steadfastness as the world awaits Tehran's formal response to the deal.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the West had changed its policies from "confrontation to cooperation" as a result of Iran's "resistance against enemies," presumably a reference to the United States and its allies.

Lebanon: Israel arranged Katyusha fire to keep tensions high

Lebanese President Michel Suleiman on Thursday suggested that Israel had arranged for collaborators in his country to fire Katyusha rockets at the Galilee earlier this week, in a bid to keep tensions high in the area.

According to the Lebanese newspaper A-Sapir, Israel's declarations that it would not cease its intelligence activities on Lebanese territories validate Suleiman's accusations.

Did Richard Goldstone hide more sinister crimes in Gaza? - Part 1: White Phosphorus and Flechettes

There was much praise for the UN investigations into war crimes committed in Gaza, led by Richard Goldstone. However, I feel that this report did not go far enough to investigate some other more serious allegations that were made.

There is a sense of urgency to bring this investigation forward and to put those responsible on trial but one must understand that something much more sinister did not even get a mention and has since been swept under the carpet.

Let's take a closer look at some aspects of this report which certainly showed a distinct weakness in the team's ability to understand what constitutes a breach of the Geneva Convention.

Secret Plan For Euro Income Tax

SECRET plans to seize more than £4billion a year from Britain and make its citizens pay taxes direct to Europe emerged last night.

The leaked proposals, seen by the Daily Express, state that Britain should lose the billions of pounds in rebate that was agreed by Margaret Thatcher 25 years ago.

The plans – with a foreword by European Union Commissioner Jose Manuel Barroso – would cost every British family at least £155 a year.

They would also mean Brussels being given the power to dip straight into taxpayers’ pockets.

Breakthrough documentary "House of Numbers" challenges conventional thinking on HIV, AIDS

Where would Big Pharma be without cancer, AIDS and vaccines? Profits would fall sharply. So diagnosing as many people as possible with AIDS (and cancer) is an important strategy for boosting Big Pharma's annual revenues.

After reading books on AIDS by Dr. Gary Null and others, I'm convinced that the official mythology about AIDS is a cruel hoax perpetrated by the drug companies. That doesn't mean there aren't people suffering from very real immune suppression disorders, but I believe it is far too simplistic to explain the root causes as being solely due to HIV. The entire HIV explanation is just a clever way to shift control over AIDS patients into the hands of drug companies where highly toxic chemicals are sold at ridiculous profits to people who are rarely helped by them.

Paranoia in the playground

Listen to mayor Dorothy Thornhill. Her council has just banned parents from watching their own children at two council play areas in Watford. Quoted in the Watford Observer this evidently simple-minded woman says, "Sadly, in today's climate, you can't have adults walking around unchecked in a children's playground."

Instead of parents being able to watch and play with their own and other people's children at the Harwoods and Harebreaks recreation grounds, vetted council staff known as "play rangers" will be in charge. The mayor says that this enforces government policy.

NSA Supercenters to Store Americans' Private Data Permanently

The National Security Agency is building huge new storage facilities to store the unconstitutionally gained data on the American people's telephone calls and Internet traffic permanently, including new buildings in suburban Salt Lake City, Utah, and San Antonio, Texas.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The good news; they are running on Windows 7!

Everyone start emailing transcripts from Jeff Dunham's "Achmed The dead Terrorist" to everyone on your email list. Tell "Achmed" jokes on the phones. That'll keep 'em busy!

Seriously, this is just another lame and pathetic attempt to trick Americans into going silent; staying isolated and emotionally dependent on the government.

The hard disk companies cannot make hard drives fast enough to store the daily accumulation of phone calls and messages generated every single day.

And even if they could, and could install them and get them online quickly enough, NSA would simply drown in the amount of data they are saving; unable to evaluate any of it.

FLASHBACK - Bush bribed reporters to ask specific questions
