Bernard Madoff's winning clients try to block victims

Investors are stashing profits that they made from Bernard Madoff’s $65 billion (£47 billion) Ponzi scheme as the trustee of the phoney funds gears up to claw back cash to compensate hard-up victims.

Lawyers report being besieged by investors seeking advice on how to protect their money from the clawback by Irving Picard, the trustee of the Madoff business. One lawyer in Manhattan, who declined to be named, said: “People are thinking about how to protect their returns. It’s something we’re getting a lot of questions about, as are other firms.”

FLASHBACK - Who is Bernard Madoff, the man behind the $50 billion fraud?

Bernard Madoff's plea of guilt on 11 charges is merely a ruse to protect his Zionist co-conspirators, especially those Zionists in high positions at two private Israeli banks apparently involved in the fraud.

Bernard Madoff's guilty plea of March 12 was clearly meant to do two things essential to protect the billions of dollars of assets stolen in this huge crime: prevent him from having to cooperate with investigators and thus keep hidden the secrets of where the stolen money is – and how it got there.

Except that Caesar Chavez doesn't lead a party in Latin America. He was a Mexican-American farm worker and labor activist who died in 1993.

A member of the Missouri Militia has contacted us to express his outrage that the organization, which routinely works with local law enforcement to help find missing children, sponsors blood donation campaigns and soup kitchens, is being smeared as a terrorist outfit by the federal government.

As we reported last week, a secret report distributed by the Missouri Information Analysis Center lists militias, Ron Paul supporters, libertarians, people who display bumper stickers, people who own gold, or even people who fly a U.S. flag and equates them with radical race hate groups and terrorists.

AIG's Not Very Transparent List of Counterparties

It's good that AIG has released a list of its counterparties. But if it really believes in "the importance of upholding a high degree of transparency with respect to the use of public funds", this is a very odd way of releasing the information.

If you're not already familiar with the intricacies of AIG's operations, it's very easy to just start adding up the numbers in the various appendices, coming up with a kind of bailout league table: Goldman got $12.9 billion! Barclays got $8.5 billion! But in fact it's much more complicated than that.

Banks scramble to return bailout funds

A growing number of healthy bank chains across the country are bailing out of the $700-billion federal banking bailout program, saying it has tarnished the reputation of banks that took the money and tangled them in unwieldy regulations.

"The TARP money is tainted and we don't want it," said Jason Korstange, a spokesman for Minnesota-based TCF Financial Corp., which received $361 million and announced this month that it wanted to pay it back. Apple Adds Still More DRM to iPod Shuffle

Even as it attacks DRM on music, Apple is continuing to add more DRM to its own hardware (we recently documented all of Apple's various hardware DRM restrictions). The latest example is the new iPod Shuffle. According to the careful reviewers at iLounge, third-party headphone makers will have to use yet-another Apple "authentication chip" if they want to interoperate with the new Shuffle.

Normally, of course, independent headphone makers could simply reverse engineer the interface. The "authentication chip" is there so that Apple's lawyers can invoke the DMCA to block those efforts. So this shows us, yet again, what DRM is for -- not stopping piracy, but rather impeding competition and innovation.

Alabama Shootings: Just Another Battle In America’s Thirty Years’ Class War

Whenever I hear about a rampage massacre like the one that just took place in southern Alabama a few hours ago, so far leaving 11 dead and untold wounded (casualty numbers seem to tick up every hour), the first thing I look for is how the company treated the shooter or the workforce as a whole: did they recently fire him in the usual callous manner that companies do it these days, leaving him desperate and devastated? Has the company been following the typical post-Reagan management model in which workers are squeezed with endless downsizings, slashed benefits, and more time at the job for less pay, all in order to fatten the filthy-rich executives’ already-obscene bonuses?

The answer in the case of today’s Alabama shootings already appears to be yes.

Global Cooling Continues

Continuing a decade-long trend of declining global temperatures, the year 2008 was significantly colder than 2007, and global temperatures for the year were below the average over the past 30 years.

The global temperature data, reported by NASA satellite-based temperature measurements, refuted predictions 2008 would be one of the warmest on record.

A simple method of manipulating surface temperature data which does not involve rocket science is to
place temperature monitors in areas prone to heating or next to heat outlets.

GM mosquito bred to destroy malaria

Scientists in America have engineered a species of mosquito which is resistant to the malaria infection. Its ability to block the infection suggests that it could come to dominate mosquito populations if released into the wild.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Ummmmm, doesn't that mean that the mosquito population will INCREASE? And that means we will be bitten more often?

Which means people will use MORE pesticides (because these cheap bug zappers the hardware stores carry now don't work), good for the profits of the pesticide companies but not to good for the environment.

And given some of the evidence that GM creations have unexpected side effects not tested for in the labs. I think it is very reckless to release a frankenbug into the wild that by design is injecting its saliva into humans.

Man arrested after 'stabbing to death teenage boy who was trying to burgle his house'

The man, who is in his early twenties, was arrested after he attacked the 17-year-old boy, who was said to have been breaking in to the house with two other youths.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I think the man was arrested by the police to save them the embarrassment of once more being shown to be totally ineffective.

I mean, this proves yet again that the police never arrive in time to PREVENT a crime. They only arrive afterwards and stand around in their spiffy uniforms looking stern and promising justice revenge.

More crimes are prevented by private citizens then by the police, so the police, in order not to have to stand around looking totally useless, arrest the guy who was the VICTIM of the original crime.

Labour 'double standards' as smoking ban is lifted for G20 world leaders

Labour has been accused of double standards for amending legislation to allow world leaders to use smoking rooms during the G20 economic conference.

It is not clear which Government department has amended the law for the venue or whether is only a temporary measure.

For the past couple of years, the back room of Sami V’s Signs has been home to the “Sovereign People’s Court for the United States,” the main local gathering place for the sovereign citizens movement. Nationwide, tens of thousands of Americans have declared themselves sovereign citizens, above the government’s jurisdiction and not obligated to pay taxes.

The sovereign citizens movement, which has its roots in the notorious anti-tax group Posse Comitatus of the 1970s, has been rising in popularity the past couple of years, fueled in part by the declining economy.

NSA offering 'billions' for Skype eavesdrop solution

News of a possible viable business model for P2P VoIP network Skype emerged today, at the Counter Terror Expo in London. Two weeks before U.S. intelligence agents captured a "high-value" terrorist detainee named Abu Zubaydah in Pakistan in March 2002 and whisked him off to a secret CIA "black site" prison in Thailand where he was allegedly tortured, the Department of Justice prepared a legal memorandum for George W. Bush stating he could ignore a law that prohibited the transfer of prisoners to countries that engage in torture.

‘Bridge to Microsoft’ Is One of Puget Sound Prizes in Stimulus

Microsoft Corp., which has $20 billion of cash in the bank, is among the first in the Puget Sound area to benefit from the investment in roads and bridges through President Barack Obama’s stimulus plan.

Local planners allotted $11 million of $214 million awarded to the region to help pay for a highway overpass in Redmond, Washington, connecting one part of Microsoft’s wooded campus with another.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, We The People pay for the bridge so that Paul Allen can buy another yacht?

Could we maybe spend that $11 million taking the bugs out of VISTA instead, or jailing the hackers that make all that buggy DRM necessary?

America's Darth Vader / Dick Cheney

As I have said for years, Dick Cheney's fingerprints are on virtually every lie and abuse of power committed by the corrupt Cheney/Bush administration. Seymour Hersh's recent revelations about an 'executive assassination ring' that directly reported to Cheney is another strong indication of Cheney's shadow presidency ~ which will eventually be linked to the 9/11 conspiracy or cover up.

American citizen critically injured after being shot in the head by Israeli forces in Nilin

Webmaster's Commentary:

Had Tristan Anderson been shot in the head by a Palestinian, it would be world headlines. But because the trigger is pulled by an Israeli, the corporate media had all but ignored this incident. Indeed as I type these words, MSNBC has just finished reporting on a fist fight that broke out among the women auditioning for "America's Next Top Model."

And they wonder why their audience is coming over to the blogs....

The New York Times - Evo Morales Ayma - La Paz, Bolivia

In 1961, the United Nations Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs placed the coca leaf in the same category with cocaine [...]

Why is Bolivia so concerned with the coca leaf? Because it is an important symbol of the history and identity of the indigenous cultures of the Andes.

All travel plans to be tracked by Government

The travel plans and personal details of every holidaymaker, business traveller and day-tripper who leaves Britain are to be tracked by the Government, the Daily Telegraph can disclose.

Anyone departing the UK by land, sea or air will have their trip recorded and stored on a database for a decade.

Passengers leaving every international sea port, station or airport will have to supply detailed personal information as well as their travel plans. So-called "booze crusiers" who cross the Channel for a couple of hours to stock up on wine, beer and cigarettes will be subject to the rules.

In addition, weekend sailors and sea fishermen will be caught by the system if they plan to travel to another country - or face the possibility of criminal prosecution.

Bailout money is flowing abroad

Much of the new money the Bank of England has "printed" to stimulate the UK economy is ending up abroad where it will be of no benefit to UK households and businesses, according to an analysis of the Bank's "quantitative easing" programme.

The Bank is in the process of purchasing about £75bn of government securities, or gilts, over a three-month period, the first instalment of a massive £150bn programme. The Bank is effectively converting these government securities or gilts into cash and bank balances which, it is hoped, will be used to support lending and spending in the UK and boost the economy.

But City experts analysing the scheme for The Independent say large quantities of money will simply end up abroad because so many of the gilts are held by foreign investors.

Volcanic smog shutting down some Hawaii farmers

Leafless monkey pod and browning Norfolk pine trees litter Ted Seaman's 3.5 acre nursery in the small town of Pahala on the southern edge of Hawaii's largest island.

His skill as a grower isn't to blame. It's the noxious fumes that have been pouring out of the Kilauea volcano in unprecedented volumes since last spring.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Policymakers ignored the warnings. Good arguments could not compete with the combination of political influence and a reckless and fanatical zeal for deregulation. $5 billion -- the amount the financial sector invested in the political sector over the last decade -- buys a lot of friends.

Nobody listens to the real climate change experts

Considering how the fear of global warming is inspiring the world's politicians to put forward the most costly and economically damaging package of measures ever imposed on mankind, it is obviously important that we can trust the basis on which all this is being proposed. Last week two international conferences addressed this issue and the contrast between them could not have been starker.

The first in Copenhagen, billed as "an emergency summit on climate change" and attracting acres of worldwide media coverage, was explicitly designed to stoke up the fear of global warming to an unprecedented pitch. As one of the organisers put it, "this is not a regular scientific conference: this is a deliberate attempt to influence policy".

Obama Caves to Israel Lobby

Not one to mince words, Freeman spelled out the strange set of affairs surrounding the flip-flop and the implications of what had just happened. Borrowing the pointed warning from George Washington's Farewell Address against developing a "passionate attachment" to the strategic goals of another nation, Freeman made it clear that he was withdrawing his "previous acceptance" of Blair's invitation to chair the NIC because of the character assassination of him orchestrated by the Israel Lobby.

The implications? Freeman was clear:

The neocon warmongers that believed the ‘surge’ in Iraq actually worked now think that, seven and a half years after invading Afghanistan, they are fighting a war they can win, despite all the evidence that suggests otherwise – if only, so they suggest, they could get say another couple of hundred thousand allied soldiers in to the place.

The Case Against Israel's "Right To Exist"

So let us examine this curious notion that Israel has some sort of inherent "right to exist," a claim that no other nation-state has ever felt it necessary to make. We would all agree that human beings have a right to exist, although there are many who would make an exception for those who commit murder. Some even go further and say that all sentient beings have a right to exist, but only in this one peculiar case is there this insistence that a particular nation-state has such an inalienable right. Why is that? Is it, perhaps, because in this particular case the contention is on particularly shaky ground? Sorry, but methinks the lady protesteth too much.
