Trump Had to Walk Back Existing Tariffs for “Phase One” Deal

The 15% tariff imposed on $120 billion in Chinese goods in September will be halved to 7.5%:

In a statement issued Friday, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) called the deal a “historic and enforceable agreement” and said the U.S. agreed to modify its tariff actions “in a significant way.”

The U.S. will maintain the 25% tariffs on about $250 billion of annual Chinese imports it imposed during the 18-month trade war, the USTR said. But it will halve the tariffs on an additional $120 billion of Chinese imports to 7.5%, the USTR said. China retaliated with similar measures.

Trump is bigging the deal as “very large” securing “massive purchases” and “many structural” changes by the Chinese.

China Quietly Ramps Up Oil Production In Iran

Authored by Simon Watkins via OilPrice.com,

The supergiant Azadegan oil field, comprising major north and south sites, is as important to Iran’s overall strategic plan to survive the current sanctions environment and to prosper when they are lifted as the flagship South Pars supergiant gas field and the added-value products of its petrochemicals sector. Last week Iran’s Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC) announced that five new development wells and an appraisal well are to be spudded in North Azadegan to maintain current production levels. OilPrice.com understands from various senior energy sources in Iran that this is only part of the picture, with much bigger plans having been agreed for rollout in the coming six months with the help of China and Russia.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And what, pray, does the US and NATO have in store for the world, in about 4- 6 months' time?!?

rReforger Redux-Defender 2020 to be the 3rd larges exercise in Europe since the Conld War

And from Google.com, we learn the following: Schedule: NATO's Defender 2020

The story goes on to state: "The joint, multinational training exercise is scheduled to take place from April to May 2020, with personnel and equipment movements occurring from February through July 2020. The exercise supports objectives defined by NATO to build readiness within the alliance and deter potential adversaries".

Unfortunately, geopolitically "awakened" (I won't say "woke", because it is just lousy English, sorry) people could see this coming from a mile away. in an early November edition of the blog, FtRuss.com, comes the following article: HERE WE GO AGAIN: Russian ‘Threat’ Back On NATO’s Agenda

But read just a little further from www.defensenews, and you will, in a very very clear and uncompromised manner, understand who the "enemies" are, in this; Russia, and China of course.

And of course, right at the very end of this, the author of this article, one Jen Judson, "steps in it", mightily, regarding why NATO and the US are ticked at Russia, where the following assertion is made: "After Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, the U.S. began to invest in a buildup in Europe to deter Russia from acting similarly in another country."

Jen, for God's sake, "denial", is not a River in Egypt; wake up, and smell the Selective Memory Disorder Syndrome, from which you are obviously suffering, horrifically, in order to make such a claim.

Fact # 1: President Obama admitted, in an interview on CNN with George Stephanopoulos, that he had been part of a European effort to "regime change" Kiev" in 2014:? Washington Was Behind Ukraine Coup: Obama admits that US “Brokered a Deal” in Support of “Regime Change”

Fact 2: Victoria Nuland, Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian affairs, bragged about what the US spent to regime change in Ukraine: The United States spent $5 billion on Ukraine anti-government riots

Fact 3: Post-Poroshenko coup, the people of Crimea did two things; they held a referendum, asking the Crimeans if they wanted to remain with Ukraine, or petition Russia to become a part of the Russian Federation. Crimea referendum: Voters 'back Russia union'

Fact 4: When the Crimean people petitioned Russia, to be accepted as part of the Russian Federation, the Russian Federation did accept the country.

Jen, there was no annexation; this was simply a people, the Crimeans, who were exercising one of the most important human rights cherished under the NU Universal Declaration of the Rights of Man, to which Russia, Ukraine, and the US, are all signatories: peaceful self-determination.

You have, obviously, made the choice to keep shilling US government propaganda, in order to empower any narrative which cannot actually stand on its own, and here, it was that Russia "allegedly annexed" Crimea, an action which never really happened, in fact.

The Race To Construct The First Solar Space Station

China aims to turn the dream of science fiction writer Isaac Asimov into reality by building a solar power station in space by 2035, according to Chinese researchers.

Scientists at the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) plan to build a solar power station in space that would capture solar energy from the Sun and beam it wirelessly to the Earth via lasers or microwaves, China’s news agency Xinhua reported on Monday.

“We hope to strengthen international cooperation and make scientific and technological breakthroughs so that humankind can achieve the dream of limitless clean energy at an early date,” Xinahua quoted CAST research fellow with the space solar station program, Wang Li, as saying at a Chinese-Russian engineering event in China last week.

Trump Okays Phase One Of US-China Trade Deal To Avert Tariffs

President Donald Trump has signed off on a phase-one trade deal with China which would avert imminent U.S. tariffs and reduce sanctions in exchange for a promise from China to purchase U.S. agricultural produce, reports said.

The agreement would delay the Dec. 15 introduction of a new wave of tariffs on $160 billion in Chinese-made consumer electronics and toys. It would also reduce some of the existing tariffs on the Asian country by half.

Trade officials had met with Trump Thursday afternoon at White House, to brief the President about the agreement. The terms in the agreement have been agreed and negotiators are working to finalize the legal text, CNN reported citing officials familiar with the agreement.

China Refuses To Confirm Trade Deal As Local Media Stays Dead Silent

Markets are closed in Beijing, the workday is over, and there no official reports in local media of an actual trade deal, that is because, as we explained on Thursday night, the language of the deal will never be made public and there would be no signing event between President Trump and President Xi. One may ask if there is even a "deal"?

iPhone shipments to China fell by 35 percent in November, the second straight month of double-digit declines in the country compared to the same periods the previous year.

According to a new report from Credit Suisse analyst Matt Cabral, the total iPhone shipments since the release of the iPhone 11 on September 20, 2019 are down more than seven percent compared to the same period in 2018.

These declines have come at the same time as the Chinese smartphone market has continued to growth, though at a slower rate than in the past.

NATO Secretary General Targets "Rising China": Why Cold War Newspeak Never Went Away

Authored by Cynthia Chung via The Strategic Culture Foundation,

On December 3rd, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that NATO must address the “security implications” of China’s rise as a “military power”, and in true Orwellian doublespeak, insisted that he did not want to make an adversary out of Beijing but rather was interested in analysing how best to respond to the challenges China poses in a balanced way…by announcing it a ‘security threat’.

But we know this is not the whole story.

Of course no bully likes it when their victim suddenly learns the art of self-defense, and who would be more paranoid of aggression than those who have been practising it for years on others only to increasingly find the tables turned.

This western paranoia of the communist boogeyman has its roots in Churchill’s Iron Curtain speech which ushered in the Cold War.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In the identification of China as a "security threat", NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has created this state between NATO and China, which was one of the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly profoundly stupid things he could have said.

And forgive me, but isn't the acronym for NATO, supposed to be NORTH ATLANTIC TREATY ORGANISATION?!?

I know that NATO has been keen to re-invent itself, post world-war II, but ...THIS?!?

There is one thing you can still observe about the Chinese people today; the love of trade, and competition is still in their DNA, and I say that as a very positive, complementary observation.

The Chinese do not want a world war; they want world trade, and there is no better testimony to that, than President Xi's "Belt and Road" concept, which streamlines getting goods back and forth from Asia to Europe, in record time, cutting costs, and cutting red tape.

I just wish that Stoltenberg would have not identified China as a threat, but as a great potential business and economic partner; I firmly believe that the road to peace, is economic empowerment; excellent education; and healthy competition.

So Jans (and BTW, we never talk any more!! :-(), in this characterization of China as a threat, you have thrown the country back into the orbits of Russia; the Middle East; and South America; PLEASE don't tell me that this was the "design intent" of your statement here?!?

Because, unfortunately, you 've just "stepped in it", big time, sir.

North Korea Says US Has Nothing To Offer If Nuke Talks Resumed

A week after North Korea resumed its "dotard" insults at President Trump and their ambassador to the United Nations said further denuclearization talks are no longer needed, Reuters reported Thursday via Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) that, even if denuclearization talks resumed between both countries, the Trump administration has nothing to offer:

North Korea's foreign ministry criticized the Trump administration for meeting with officials at the UN Security Council and suggested that it would be ready to respond to any corresponding measures that Washington imposes.

"The United States said about corresponding measure at the meeting, as we have said we have nothing to lose and we are ready to respond to any corresponding measure that the US chooses," said KCNA citing a North Korean Foreign Ministry spokesperson.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The real problem, to which President Trump appears to be utterly tone-deaf, is that issue of "quid pro quo", meaning, "If YOU do something, I will reciprocate by doing something."

But the American posture appears to be, to both Kim Jung Un, and North Korea; the following; "You ... do everything we have asked; then we will consider doing something for you."

This is the absolute antithesis of true negotiations ; and what President Trump may reap from this, is more nuclear North Korean tests, greater North Korean Nuclear capabilities, and more protection from China.

China Just Opened “the Suez Canal of Our Era”: China’s Eurasian Rail “Middle Corridor”

Two recent developments highlight how the new world is being invented by the Chinese—and how it will affect the Middle East and central Asia.

Last month, while Congress busied itself with impeachment hearings, a mammoth Chinese cargo train arrived in Turkey en route to the heart of Europe. It will be remembered as the first freight train to pass from China across central Asia and under the Bosphorus Strait, using the Marmaray tunnel as part of China’s historic Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Like the Suez Canal in its day, this “Iron Silk Road” through central Asia is a time saver, with the added bonus of circumventing sea routes now controlled by the West. It will reduce the transportation time between China and Turkey from one month to 12 days, while the entire journey from Xi’an to Prague in the heart of Europe will take only 18 days, half the time of a similar journey by sea and at similar cost.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Chinese silk road, if allowed to continue by hegemonic forces in the West, will be a boon for all companies using its infrastructure to trade.

Pentagon Shifts Focus Ahead Of Next War, Wants To Relocate Troops To Indo-Pacific Region

Very little headlines come out of the Middle East these days about the two-decade war the US has been fighting against terrorism. But what you hear on an increasing frequency are headlines outlining how Russia and China are the new enemies. The shift happened several years ago when the US military figured out that a great power competition was underway.

Instead of fighting unconventional enemies in the deserts of the Middle East, the Pentagon is preparing for major conflicts against Russia and China.

Hundreds of billions of dollars are being plowed into hypersonics, fifth-generation fighters and bombers, directed energy, space, cyber, quantum science, artificial intelligence, and automation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

(Sigh) Defense Secretary Esper, a word, please; what you are requesting be done, sounds like offence, rather than defense.

And somewhere, in your desire to re-position American troops, please remember; the total troop strength of the US military, as reflected in these numbers from Google:

United States Armed Forces
Reserve personnel 845,600
Deployed personnel 210,000
Expenditures
Budget US$693 billion (2019) (ranked 1st)

Globalfirepower, gives us the numbers on China:
2,693,000

That... gives China roughly a 2/1 advantage in troop strength; and until, Secretary Esper, you address that issue, this re-arrangement of US troops will be somewhat akin to rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

With this government having knowingly lied to the public regarding Afghanistan, how long are you going to keep lying to the American people about the need to conscript, because our armed services are retchedly below quota, across the board?!?

IF the scenario, sir, is a US war against Russia and China, we are already behind the 8 ball, because we have neither the troop strength, or the weaponry to accomplish that mission.

These Secretive Oil Companies Control $3 Trillion In Wealth

Authored by Anes Alic via OilPrice.com,

They control the vast majority of the world’s oil and gas assets, yet the average person has never even heard of them, outside of those that are famous for things like getting attacked by missiles or becoming embroiled in a high-profile corruption scandal.

State-owned oil and gas companies (aka, the national oil companies, or NOCs) control at least US$3 trillion in oil and gas assets, compared to around $2.5 trillion as of 2017, and hold an estimated 90% of all known reserves--considerably more than publicly listed companies such as BP, ExxonMobil and Shell. Meanwhile, Saudi Aramco leads the pack as the world’s most profitable company.

That means that NOCs control about as much wealth as all U.S. billionaires or roughly twice the assets of global multilateral development banks.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Oil , and access to it, are critical to war, as there has not yet quite been a tank created which can run on solar; wind; cold fusion; or hydrogen.

If you see a sudden huge upshove at your local gas station, and all around you, that rise is generally telegraphing a prelude to war.

Moscow Creates 'Anti-Missile Dome’ Over Northern Fleet As Battle For Arctic Heats Up
The international struggle for military supremacy in the Arctic has just risen to absurd new heights.

Following the collapse of the arms control regime that for decades aided the US’s tenuous grip on power in the region, the US, Russia and China are now engaged in a winner-takes-all struggle for control of territory north of the Arctic Circle.

And as Russia moves to defend its territory (Russia and Canada have the most territory inside the Arctic Circle), the Russian army is reportedly preparing to upgrade the equipment on the anti-aircraft regiment of its Northern Fleet with its new state-of-the-art S-400 missile defense systems.

The upgrades will create what RT described as a "missile defense dome" able to stop a flurry of NATO missiles.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Follow The Money: BlackRock, Vanguard Await New Opportunities In China

While the Western world controlled the 20th century, the 21st century could be soon controlled by China.

Six of the world's largest asset managers, including BlackRock and Vanguard, are eager to do more business in China, reported Bloomberg.

Sources said these firms had told regulators they plan to apply for fully-foreign-owned mutual fund licenses after China Securities Regulatory Commission said in Oct., that it would allow overseas institutions more power over onshore ventures in 2020.

Fidelity told Bloomberg via a statement this week that it's preparing to file for a mutual fund license in China.

These big Wall Street banks see nearly $12.8 trillion of investable assets in Chinese households.

Though China's economy is slowing with growth rates crashing to three-decade lows and a trade war with the US with no immediate resolution, Western bankers understand that by 2030, the center of the global economy could be China, not the US.

New Silk Roads in Action at China-Kazakh BorderCentral Asia, between China and Europe, is bustling

Meet Yuxinou, the container cargo train plying back and forth along the 11,000 km-long railway corridor connecting Chongqin in Sichuan province via Xinjiang and Kazakhstan to Russia, Belarus, Poland and finally Duisburg in the Ruhr valley. And all that in a mere 13 days.

Along the way, the Yuxinou stops in, among other places, Almaty, Bishkek, Tashkent, Tehran, Istanbul, Moscow and Rotterdam: a who’s who of Eurasian cities. It carries laptops, BMWs, spare parts, clothes, machinery, international post packages, chemical products, medicine and medical instruments – all manner of goods, made in China and made in Europe. How Dumb Have We Become? Chinese Students Are 4 Grade Levels Ahead Of US Students In Math

Authored by Michael Snyder via The End of The American Dream blog,

How in the world is America supposed to remain “the greatest country on Earth” when other nations are absolutely running circles around us when it comes to education? As you will see below, one survey found that 15-year-old students in China are almost four full grade levels ahead of 15-year-old students in the United States in mathematics. This is one of the most damning indictments of our education system that I have ever come across, and it is yet another clear indication that what we are doing is simply not working. Our children are not being given the tools that they need to compete in our modern society, and we have only ourselves to blame.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One of the biggest burdens on the education system in this country, was the adoption of "Common Core", inflicted on America's schools by Barak Obama in 2009.

And so the "gifts" from this program, just keep on giving; American students are, largely, illiterate; innumerate, and incapable of critical thinking, all of which are desperately needed to function in real life.

New Evidence Shows Common Core Has Been a Total Disaster

How Common Core Is Destroying Training of Teachers

How Common Core And Screen Overdoses Are Ruining American Kids’ Intelligence

But if something like "Common Core" is simply allowed to persist, and past the transition from a Democratic to a Republican president, there are reasons why this is allowed to continue.

Intellectually, and sometimes chemically challenged individuals, particularly as kids, make far better targets for governmental manipulation, than does someone who has a fundamentally "top-down" understanding of how things work.

So if a population of a country is unable to think critically, starting with those crucial, formative school years, and is also chemically disabled, through the easy availability of SSRIS, or other pharmacologically active drugs thrust upon them, the government believes that anything it says, no matter how completely ludicrous, is most probably going to be taken at face value, even though it might be the polar opposite of the truth.

Ever since the inception of the Vietnam War, I have understood, very clearly, and painfully, that the US government has a penchant for lying, in order to justify massive aggression against a country which has neither declared war against us, or done anything nasty against us.

But DAMN, it was a "heady moment" for all the military contractors, because so much of their equipment got destroyed, and had to be replaced.

It was only when President Johnson saw the massive march in DC in 69, he realized that he could not possibly get re-elected on the war agenda, that began his pilgrimage on that hard road to reality, that this war was unwinnable.

1969: Millions march in US Vietnam Moratorium.
Americans have taken part in peace initiatives across the United States to protest against the continuing war in Vietnam.
The Peace Moratorium is believed to have been the largest demonstration in US history with an estimated two million people involved.

The wars, and war crimes, in which this country has been monumentally complicit since then, are crystal-clear testaments to the butt-ugly truth; that most generally, the Federal Government has gotten its population precisely where it wants it: sated with readily-available prescription drugs, putting them in a state of stupor; always craving new distractions; and trapped by the inability to think critically, when it comes to both personal, and political decisions.

Can we make our education system the envy of the world?!?

Absolutely.

But the leadership is then going to have to put up with the fact that some thinking, peaceful Americans are going to, both logically and publicly, criticize how and what this government is doing, and ask for a real, and responsible, and substantive change in its course of action.

And THAT is something that those entrenched in the Bowels of Power in this country, never want to see happen.

China Set To Make History With Record Number Of Bond Defaults In 2019

While China is bracing for what may be a historic D-Day event on December 9, when the "unprecedented" default of state-owned, commodity-trading conglomerate Tewoo with $38 billion in assets may take place, it has already been a banner year for Chinese bankruptcies.

According to Bloomberg data, China is set to hit another dismal milestone in 2019 when a record amount of onshore bonds are set to default, confirming that something is indeed cracking in China's financial system and "testing the government’s ability to keep financial markets stable as the economy slows and companies struggle to cope with unprecedented levels of debt."

After a brief lull in the third quarter, a burst of at least 15 new defaults since the start of November have sent the year’s total to 120.4 billion yuan ($17.1 billion), and set to eclipse the 121.9 billion yuan annual record in 2018.

NATO Names China as New Target, Alongside Russia

The 1949 NATO Treaty never attempted to single out a specific enemy for the alliance to fight against, and while it was clear at the time the Soviet Union was the focus, the lack of specificity has meant numerous attempts in recent history to add enemies, or make up new things for the alliance to do.

NATO Names China As New Enemy, Alongside Russia

Authored by Jason Ditz via AntiWar.com,

The 1949 NATO Treaty never attempted to single out a specific enemy for the alliance to fight against, and while it was clear at the time the Soviet Union was the focus, the lack of specificity has meant numerous attempts in recent history to add enemies, or make up new things for the alliance to do.

During this week’s NATO meeting, they are going to officially add a new nation to the list of “challenges,” in the form of China, with NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg saying NATO has to “tackle the issue” of China’s growing capabilities.

China is a major military and economic power, though not hostile to any NATO member nations. That China is a Pacific nation makes them a strange enemy for an alliance supposedly focused on the north Atlantic to single out.

NATO, however, is at a crossroads trying to figure out its identity and purpose, and China’s sheer size makes it an attractive target to justify NATO’s continued existence.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is what a geopolitical body does when its member nations understand that they are incapable of competing with a growing economic, military, and political power, as Russia and China have become.

So what does that entity try to do?!?

First, that entity will play the geopolitical equivalent of "Wreck-it Ralph" using the same old, warn scenario; attempt to destabilize the government, and usher in a (western backed and funded) "color revolution"; get the offending governmental officials out of office, and insert a more western centric leadership in its place.

But what if such a move is unlikely to take place?!? Then, there comes the deranged move to start thinking the unthinkable; to use nuclear weapons to create a decap strike against the "offensive country or countries", shattering them into smithereens.

Paul Craig Roberts, a brother blogger with an incredible professional history, whose work I respect greatly, has shared the following with the public; this comes from a post from 2017; just two years ago.

Washington Plans to Nuke Russia and China The article goes on to state:

"Not everyone likes to hear about the threat of nuclear war. Some find refuge in denial and say that nuclear war is impossible because it makes no sense. Unfortunately, humankind has a long record of doing things that make no sense.

It is extremely dangerous to all of mankind for Washington to convince two nuclear powers that Washington is preparing a preemptive nuclear strike against them. It is impossible to imagine a more reckless and irresponsible act. Yet this is precisely what Washington has done."

I would like to hope that this is not the direction into which the US government is trying to push NATO.

An article in Google tells us the following about NATO and its access to nuclear arms:

"Of the three nuclear powers in NATO (France, the United Kingdom and the United States), only the United States is known to have provided weapons for nuclear sharing. As of November 2009, Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Turkey are hosting U.S. nuclear weapons as part of NATO's nuclear sharing policy."

And I would dearly hope (and pray) that the leadership of these NATO member nations understand, that attempting to create a nuclear Armageddon against China, and/or Russia, will most probably have the consequence of the destruction of life on this planet as we know it, including the complete obliteration of those countries with which the US is willing to "share" nuclear weapons.

China Repeats US Must Reduce Tariffs For "Phase One" Trade Deal

Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesman Gao Feng confirmed to reporters on Thursday what the Global Times had already leaked previously, namely that tariffs must be reduced by the US to reach a phase one trade deal, reported Reuters.

"The Chinese side believes that if the two sides reach a phase one deal, tariffs should be lowered accordingly," Feng told reporters.

His comments were a reiteration of Beijing's hard stance of tariff rollbacks in the last month or no phase one trade deal. Feng said both trade teams are in communication, but didn't say if the trade talks were going well.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would like to hope, for the sake of US farmers who are hurting immeasurably right now, financially, that some degree of "flexibility" can be found on the US side, to create a trade deal.

Why Are Ukrainian Neo-Nazis Joining the Hong Kong Protests?

Leaders of far-right Ukrainian groups that rose to prominence in the 2014 coup d’etat they helped orchestrate, including the Azov Battalion and Right Sektor, have recently traveled to Hong Kong to participate in the anti-Beijing protests there. It’s unclear why the groups, sporting the apparel of a far-right hooligan group called “Honor” or “Gonor,” have gone to Hong Kong, but the fact that both the 2014 Ukrainian coup and the present protests in Hong Kong have enjoyed extensive support from the CIA-spawned National Endowment for Democracy may give a clue.

China Vows Response After US House Votes To Sanction Chinese Officials Over Uighur Abuse

China wasted no time to issue a harshly worded response to the passage of the Uighur bill, and in a statement published moments ago by the Chinese foreign ministry, said that whereas "the US plan to use the Xinjiang-related issue to sow Chinese ethnic relations, undermine Xinjiang's prosperity and stability, and curb China's development", this is "absolutely impossible" and Beijing urges the US to "immediately correct its mistakes, prevent the aforementioned Xinjiang-related bill from becoming law, and stop using the Xinjiang-related issue to interfere in China's internal affairs."

The statement ends ominously, saying that "China will respond further according to the development of the situation."

In other words, even more words, and no actions, suggesting that at this point, Xi may have capitulated and is scared of actually doing something instead of just speaking.

KEEPING UP WITH CHINA: US NAVY ORDERS $22 BILLION WORTH OF SUBMARINES

SOURCE: CNN.COM
The US Navy on Monday awarded its most expensive shipbuilding contract ever, more than $22.2 billion worth of the world's most advanced submarines.

The massive contract for nine nuclear-powered, Virginia class attack submarines comes just months after the head of the US Navy in the Pacific warned of a massive Chinese naval buildup and his trouble in getting enough submarines to counter it.

The deal "marks the US Navy's latest response to China's growing military power and aggressive actions in the Western Pacific," said Carl Schuster, a former director of operations at the US Pacific Command's Joint Intelligence Center.

"The PLAN (Chinese Navy) is getting better and larger so the US Navy has to respond," he said. "It doesn't make China an enemy, but China's actions do bear watching."

Webmaster's Commentary:

The problem here is, the US military seems to have to struggle to at least "keep up" with advances in Chinese weaponry; and the question I have to ask is, why is it that we are not light-years ahead on this issue?!?

The answers to this question are complex, and deserve to be addressed, both by any corporate head of the military/industrial complex, and by the Pentagon itself.

It is a known fact that all military industrial complex companies contribute intensely to both parties, as the Presidential campaign kicks into gear.

But unfortunately, as the old saying goes, familiarity...breeds contempt.

And because the leadership of these war-centric corporations frequently play golf with the President, and are on a first-name basis with him, they feel that it ultimately doesn't matter if the equipment they produce is shoddy; antiquated upon delivery; and have the cost overruns from hell, that the President, and our military, should constantly accept "less than", when it comes to great weaponry design, because, after all, they put our President intol a financial position which made it possible for him to win the election.

That has got to change, and what we need is legislation to prevent any of the military industrial complex to donate one dime to either candidate in the national elections.

Then, there should be a clause written into any contract for any weaponry the military should like to buy, that if the product doesn't deliver, on time, and as advertised upon delivery, then the heads of those corporations need to be charged with a military-application specific intellectual and industrial treason, tried by a jury of their peers, convicted, and serve their sentences in a non-club Fed.

Draconian?!? Hell, yes. But as those of you who occasionally read my posts understand, I abhor war as a way with which to resolve geopolitical differences. That being said, when our military goes to war, it should not be with less than utterly stellar equipment, which the military industrial complex has generally not been able to provide.

But I will almost bet you; the first corporate executive charged and convicted under this category of crime, will be a great "inspiration" for those who will follow them into positions of leadership in this industry.

Iran’s Barter Trade Deals with China, By-Passing the US-Dollar, “Dedollarizing” Her Economy

According to a PressTV Report of 24 November, 2019, Iran and China are working on a trade or barter deal that would circumvent US sanctions. It would bypass US-dollar denominated transactions, exchanging Iranian oil for Chinese goods and services and investments. The head of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (TCCIMA), Masoud Khansari told Teheran’s Tasnim news agency, on 19 November 2019 that “The mechanism, aiming to increase economic exchanges between Iran and China, is in the process of being finalized and implemented.” He meant indeed, a barter deal between the two countries, avoiding a monetary exchange, is being worked out.

The Superpowers Battling Over Iraq's Giant Oil Field

For Russia, the Middle East offers a key military pivot from which it can project influence West and East and that it can use to capture and control massive oil and gas flows in both directions as well.

For China, the Middle East – and, absolutely vitally, Iran and Iraq – are irreplaceable stepping stones towards Europe for its era-defining ‘One Belt, One Road’ project.

Earlier this week an announcement was made by Iraq’s Oil Ministry that highlights each of these factors at play, through a relatively innocuous-sounding contract award to a relatively unknown Chinese firm.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, it appears that the real "winners" of the US's invasion and occupation of Iraq, will be either China or Russia, or China and Russia, possibly working together in some deal with which to benefit both countries, when this project is completed?!?

Krieger: "This Entire Century Has Been An Unmitigated March In The Direction Of Stupidity"

Two Paths Forward with China – The Good and The Bad

Since a few things became clear to me last year, I’ve consistently forecasted a significant worsening in U.S.-China relations and remained adamant that all the happy talk of trade deals and breakthroughs is just a lot of hot air.

Since a few things became clear to me last year, I’ve consistently forecasted a significant worsening in U.S.-China relations and remained adamant that all the happy talk of trade deals and breakthroughs is just a lot of hot air.

What first appeared to be a unique quirk of Donald Trump has morphed into bipartisan consensus in Congress, and clear signs have emerged that the general public has likewise become alarmed at China’s growing global clout.

Three major crisis events have rocked the U.S. this century, and much of the public has embraced, or at least accepted, the worst possible response in all cases.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US tensions with China, rather than seeming to being any closer to getting resolved, have absolutely gotten worse, during President Trump's reign, between the signing of the Hong Kong Act; US Navy continued patrolling of the South China Seas and the monumental trade imbalance, which has yet to be resolved.

Trade wars happen to have a nasty habit of morphing into shooting wars; I hope this is not going to happen, but I cannot discount the possibility, that certain individuals in the Bowels of Power in DC, see the destruction of the current regime in Beijing as "the only answer", to the "China Question", as the US cannot manage to compete economically.

President Xi's "Belt and Road" project, using trade to bind Europe and Asia into a formidable manufacturing/distribution hub in Eurasia, will be unstoppable, and there is very little the US can do to stop it, except prevent its evolution from continuing, and that prevention may very well be a war, for which the US government doesn't have the troops; the manufacturing; the money; or the weaponry.

US Primes NATO To Confront Russia, China

Authored by M.K.Bhadrakumar via The Indian Punchline blog,

The December 3-4 summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) in London resembles a family reunion after the acrimony over the issue of military spending by America’s European allies.

The trend is up for defence spending across European Allies and Canada. Over $100 billion is expected to be added to the member states’ defence budgets by end-2020.

More importantly, the trend at the NATO foreign ministers’ meeting at Brussels on November 19-20, in the run-up to the London summit, showed that despite growing differences within the alliance, member states closed ranks around three priority items in the US global agenda — escalation of the aggressive policy toward Russia, militarisation of space and countering China’s rise.

The NATO will follow Washington’s lead to establish a space command by officially regarding space as “a new operational domain”.

Webmaster's Commentary:

My big question here, other than the obvious tweaking of resources and NATO's readiness for war against China and Russia, is this; Will NATO do any better in space than it has done on earth?!?

Unfortunately, the short answer here, is no.

China Braces For December D-Day: The "Unprecedented" Default Of A Massive State-Owned Enterprise

omething is seriously starting to break in China's financial system.

Three days after we described the self-destructive doom loop that is tearing apart China's smaller banks, where a second bank run took place in just two weeks - an unprecedented event for a country where until earlier this year not a single bank was allowed to fail publicly and has now had no less than five bank high profile nationalizations/bailouts/runs so far this year - the Chinese bond market is bracing itself for an unprecedented shock: a major, Fortune 500 Chinese commodity trader is poised to become the biggest and highest profile state-owned enterprise to default in the dollar bond market in over two decades.

Time Is Running Out For Trump’s North Korea Diplomacy; Year's end an artificial deadline, but lack of progress is causing problems

orth Korea has said the US has until the end of the year to come up with a new proposal to revive stalled diplomatic engagement between the two nations. US officials have similarly warned North Korea that time is running out, albeit without specific deadlines.

As a practical matter, these deadlines are all artificial and arbitrary, and the nations could engage whenever they want to. At the same time, many months have gone by without any progress, and the process is plainly growing stale for it.

It isn’t even that there are a slew of disagreements holding things up. Rather, there is a very specific issue: North Korea wants something in return for denuclearization, and the US just keeps demanding they denuclearize unconditionally, with hints they might get something in return eventually.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is not any kind of negotiation, if one side demands XYZ from the other, and there is no Quid Pro Quo from the side doing the demanding; this is precisely what we have in the US position regarding North Korea.

Iran, China, & Russia Gear Up For Unprecedented War Games In "Message To The World"

Just as Americans were gearing up for Thanksgiving, on Wednesday Iranian officials announced they will send a "message to the world" by holding unprecedented war games with partner forces Russia in China in the Indian Ocean.

Semi-official Mehr news agency cited Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi on Wedneday to reveal the "mass war drills" will held at some point next month or the "near future" in a historic first, and as the three unlikely allies find themselves facing ramped up Washington sanctions and pressure.

Webmaster's Commentary:

(Sigh) President Trump, a word, please.

Have you noticed that your foreign policies appear to driving other countries very far away from the American sphere of influence, and into the spheres of influence of both Russia and China?!?

I have a very hard time, believing that such was the design intent of your foreign policies.

And sir, if this doesn't disturb you, I must confess, that the hairs on the back of my neck are attempting to breakdance, a very unusual situation for my hair, in learning of these exercises.

Here Are More US Tech Giants Propping Up China's Vast Surveillance State

A bombshell follow-up report to a major document leak which confirmed and detailed China's vast Uyghur Muslim Xinjiang prison network and system for monitoring communications and whereabouts has named names. Names that is, of US tech giants that are actually aiding and abetting China’s multibillion-dollar surveillance industry being used to impose a total electronic police state on the communist country. And it's not just Google and IBM, but a growing list of recognizable names.

"U.S. companies, including Seagate Technology PLC, Western Digital Corp. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co., have nurtured, courted and profited from China’s surveillance industry," the scathing report begins. "Several have been involved since the industry’s infancy."

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is disturbing, but in American business practices, and in its "morality" money trumps every other moral issue and consequence.

A Failure Of Leadership In The Muslim World

Authored by James Durso via RealClearWorld.com,

Bad news about China’s persecution of the Uighurs has been coming thick and fast.

Azeem Ibrahim of the U.S. Army War College Strategic Studies Institute has pointed out that the acquiescence of Muslim-majority countries illustrates “’Muslim solidarity’ is a convenient and effective slogan to be thrown at domestic audiences” but, when push comes to a shove from China, you can “forget about the umma.”

This is a serious issue, not a provocation like Everybody Draw Mohammed Day. Why are leaders in the Islamic world refusing to take a stand?

Two reasons stand out immediately.

First, faith leaders in the Islamic world probably reckon it is futile to chastise the Communist Party of China for actions taken against a non-Han people practicing what the Party sees as an “illegal superstition”. China’s leader, President Xi Jinping, isn’t some Danish cartoonist -- there would be consequences for speaking out.

China Folds: For All Its Bluster, Beijing Does Nothing After Trump Signs HK Bill

Just a few hours after Trump called China's bluff on the Hong Kong bill, it appears the US president won the pot.

After launching a stern verbal protest overnight in which China's Foreign Ministry said that it would take strong countermeasures if the US continues to undermine Hong Kong's autonomy after Trump signed the Bill that supports HK protesters, adding that US attempts to interfere in HK are doomed to fail, Beijing has done nothing really, and instead left the door open for a trade deal with the U.S., confirming again that China needs the trade deal with the US just as much as Trump, if not more.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I think that the caveat, here, would be; China hasn't done anything YET; please remember, President Trump signed this into law last Wednesday; it is barely Friday morning, from where I sit, and Chinese leadership may have some concepts about timing what they are actually going to do, to get a better deal with US trade.

China May Put US Lawmakers On "No-Entry List" In Retaliation For Hong Kong Bill

Global Times editor-in-chief and notorious twitter troll, Hu Xijin ,tweeted Thursday that China is considering adding those who drafted the Hong Kong Bill of Rights and Democracy Act into law on a no-entry list, banning them from traveling to China's mainland, Hong Kong, and Macau.

Iran, Russia, China to Hold Joint Wargames in ‘Message to the World’

Iran, China, and Russia will hold in the coming weeks their first-ever joint war drills, which leaders say are meant to send a "message to the world" about increased military cooperation between the rogue countries.

The commander of Iran's navy, Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, said Wednesday that the Islamic Republic will team up with Moscow and Beijing within the next month to hold the mass war drills.

"When we talk about joint wargames, we are talking about two or more countries with a high level of relations in various political, economic and social fields, which culminate in cooperation in the military sector, with wargames usually being the highest level of such cooperation," Khanzadi was quoted as saying in remarks to Iran's state-controlled press.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Forgive me, but what, please, makes these countries "rogue nations" ?!? Just not giving a darn about American diktats?!?

Apparently the Washington Free-Beacon has been "turned"; why else would they describe Khanzadi's remarks in "Iran's State controlled press", when the New York Times fulfills that requirement for the US government?!?

Pot...Kettle...Black; folks, let's get real here. Language has consequences.

ESCOBAR: THE ROAD TOWARD GREATER EURASIA

OURCE: PEPE ESCOBAR VIA THE SAKER BLOG
Kazakhstan’s first president has road map for 21st century: global alliance of leaders for nuclear-free world...

Photo: Asia Times

The Astana Club is one of the most crucial annual meetings in Eurasia, alongside the Boao forum in China and the Valdai discussions in Russia. China, Russia and Kazakhstan are all at the forefront of Eurasia integration. No wonder, then, that the 5th meeting of the Astana Club had to focus on Greater Eurasia – synonymous, it may be hoped, with a “new architecture of global cooperation.”

Astana Club congregates a fascinating mix of Eurasia-wide notables with Europeans and Americans. Virtually all relevant shades of the geopolitical spectrum are represented. Panels are very well structured (I moderated two of them). Discussions are frank and non-denial denials are heavily discouraged. Here is just a taste of what was discussed in Nur-Sultan, under the spectacular shallow dome designed by Norman Foster.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would love to attend one of these meetings; people are talking about trade, peace, and stability in an exciting global experiment, whose time has come.

Rather than the rejection of the "Belt/Road" concept we see in the bowels of power in DC, the US should be embracing the idea; unfortunately, with an American which can no longer really compete, the main concept here is smash and burn, rather than try to create a cooperative environment, where peace and trade can actually flourish, on a global scale.

Looking at this article, I'm reminded of an article shared by Paul Craig Roberts, a gentleman for whom I have a very great amount of respect, a couple of years ago. It's title is rather terrifying, but I think the guy is telling the truth when he says: Washington Plans to Nuke Russia and China The article goes on to say:

"Not everyone likes to hear about the threat of nuclear war. Some find refuge in denial and say that nuclear war is impossible because it makes no sense. Unfortunately, humankind has a long record of doing things that make no sense.

In previous posts in recent years I have pointed out both written documents and changes in US war doctrine that indicate that Washington is preparing a preemptive nuclear attack on Russia and China. More recently, I have shown that Washington’s demonization of Russia and President Putin, the incessant lies about Russian deeds and intentions, and the refusal of Washington to cooperate with Russia on any issue have convinced the Russian government that Washington is preparing the Western populations for an attack on Russia. It is obvious that China has come to the same conclusion.

It is extremely dangerous to all of mankind for Washington to convince two nuclear powers that Washington is preparing a preemptive nuclear strike against them. It is impossible to imagine a more reckless and irresponsible act. Yet this is precisely what Washington has done."

ISRAELI GOVERNMENT TO EXPAND GLOBAL ARMS EXPORTS IN 2020

SOURCE: MIDDLE EAST MONITOR
The Israeli government is aiming to increase the volume of Israel’s defence exports, reported Globes, which has revealed the main points of the plan for the first time.

The project, being overseen by the Defence Ministry’s International Defence Cooperation Directorate (SIBAT) led by Brigadier General (Res.) Yair Kulas, will begin to be rolled out in early 2020.

According to Globes, the plan is based on “focused seminars for senior commanders in foreign armies”, Israeli military “assistance for promoting sales of Israeli weapons”, and “subsidising small and medium-sized defence companies seeking to sell arms around the world”.

Speaking this week, Kulas said that SIBAT favours a major expansion of agreements between countries, resulting in significant deals for the large defence companies, especially Elbit Systems, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) and Rafael Advanced Defence Systems.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Color me unsurprised at this development; but one has to wonder how Israeli weaponry really stands up to that of China or Russia, at this point?!?

TRUMP SIGNS HONG KONG HUMAN RIGHTS BILL, IGNORING CHINA’S WARNINGS

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed into law legislation that could bring diplomatic action and economic sanctions against Hong Kong, brushing off multiple warnings by China against such a move.

“The Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act reaffirms and amends the United States-Hong Kong Policy Act of 1992, specifies United States policy towards Hong Kong and directs assessment of the political developments in Hong Kong,” the White House said in a statement. “Certain provisions of the act would interfere with the exercise of the president's constitutional authority to state the foreign policy of the United States.”

The legislation has provoked a backlash from the Chinese government, which on Monday summoned US ambassador to China Terry Branstad to warn that Congress’ passage of the legislation last week constituted “meddling” in the country’s internal affairs and would result in “consequences”.

Webmaster's Commentary:

(Sigh) Mr. President, a word, please.

While my head and heart are with the protestors, I am compelled to politely suggest, that of all the ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid things you could have done here, this signing of this bill, gets the prize, at least so far, in the history of your Administration.

And, predictably, the blowback from China has already started. I think this piece from antiwar.com, pretty much says it all:

US’ Hong Kong democracy act slanders China to a level close to madness, Foreign Minister Wang Yi saysJust great, Mr. President, congrats!!

Sarcasm aside, sir, apparently, it doesn't matter to you how this lack of a reasonable trade bill has so horrifically impacted the farmers of this country, with many losing their farms in foreclosure, or losing their lives to suicide; these people have long memories, and are going to very much remember this in the 2020 election.

So what's up next in your "to do list", Mr. President, a shooting war with China?!? Because between this, and the US military's constant maneuvering in the South China Sea, this is precisely what you may well get; congratulations, sir, are demonstrating that you and your Administration are pathologically incapable of thinking a scenario through to its logical conclusion.

And sir, just in case no one in your cabinet is capable of telling the truth, should we go to a shooting war with China, it looks like it needs to be me: we do not have the weaponry; the troop strength; the manufacturing; or the money to create a successful outcome to a conventional war with China.

And unless you are able to fix this with a wave of your hand, sir, (which I seriously doubt), such a war is going to put the people of this country into a world of hurt.

A $20 Trillion Problem: More Than Half Of China's Banks Fail Central Bank Stress Test

In our latest look at the turmoil among China's small and medium banks, which included not only the recent bailouts and nationalizations of Baoshang Bank , Bank of Jinzhou, China's Heng Feng Bank, but also the two very troubling bank runs at China's Henan Yichuan Rural Commercial Bank at the start of the month, and then more recently at Yingkou Coastal Bank.

As we further explained, the reason why so many (for now) smaller Chinese banks have found themselves either getting bailed out or hit by bank runs, is that in a time when China's interbank/repo rates have surged amid growing counterparty concerns, increasingly more banks have been forced to rely almost entirely on deposits to fund themselves, forcing them to hike their deposit rates to keep their funding levels stable.

New report warns Chinese long-range anti-ship missiles outclass US radars

The next war the US will lose big and the American people will find out what war is like. We are in big trouble.

In naval warfare, awareness and range are key. Fleets are by their nature projections of power that contest a given area of the sea, and their commanders must be aware of everything that comes into and goes out of that zone.

A new report by the conservative Hudson Institute think tank warns the US Navy doesn’t have the intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) assets to provide the information US fleet commanders need in today’s oceanic battlefields, much less in the expanded naval ops envisioned by the Trump administration.
