Biden: U.S. budget to seek nuclear funds increase

Vice President Joe Biden said President Barack Obama's budget proposal will include $7 billion to maintain the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile, which would be $600 million more than Congress approved last year.

Even in a time of tough budget decisions, these are investments we must make for our security. We are committed to working with Congress to ensure these budget increases are approved," Biden said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I'm ready to scream at the sheer insanity of these moves, and these statements.

Vice-President Biden, this is not an "investment" in US security. The "investments" we need to provide real security to our nation include fixing the national infrastructure (roads, bridges, ect.,) fixing our schools, (which for the most part are dysfunctional pre-prison detention holding pens), fixing our hospitals and health care in an intelligent and cost-effective way (Belgium has managed this, sir, why can't the US?), and bringing manufacturing back to this country.

THESE actions, taken together, will do more to protect our security than any bomb we develop, or produce, can do.

Oh, and the other measures we can take internationally would include: mandating international aid programs which actually reach the people for whom it was intended (our aid to Afghanistan right now is flooding in to Karzai and his minions' pockets), stop supporting tin-pot dictators who have absolutely no regard for the welfare of their people, and resolve our country's needs for energy with negotiated deals, and well-supported technical innovations not invasions.

These efforts, Vice-President Biden, will make our country truly safe.

If the true safety of this country was your highest priority, these are the steps you should be advocating.

White House asks Justice Department to look for other places to hold 9/11 terror trial

The White House ordered the Justice Department Thursday night to consider other places to try the 9/11 terror suspects after a wave of opposition to holding the trial in lower Manhattan.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would be willing to bet you one plugged and worthless American dollar that the trial will be closed to the public, and put into the most inaccessible place they can find.

The reason?!?

As reported in on April 19, 2009 in

"Khalid Sheikh Mohammed Was Waterboarded 183 Times in One Month"

But the sick torture didn't actually start there.

As reported on April 17, 2009 in

"At a military tribunal in 2007, the father of a Guantanamo detainee alleged that Pakistani guards had confessed that American interrogators used ants to coerce the children of alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed into revealing their father’s whereabouts."

So, there you have it. Torture is now an American institution. And the problem with torture, as we have known from the time of the Inquisition, generally gets the person being tortured to say anything the torturers want the tortured individual to say.

If this information is ever allowed into sworn testimony at this trial, the case against this guy will have absolutely no legs whatsoever.

And that's what terrifies certain people in state and federal government the most.

All 27 UK Foreign Affairs lawyers: Iraq war unlawful. Obama, politicians, US media: no response

*hyperlinks and videos live at source*

All the lawyers in the UK’s Foreign Affairs Department concluded the US/UK invasion of Iraq was an unlawful War of Aggression. Their expert advice is the most qualified to make that legal determination; all 27 of them were in agreement. This powerful judgment of unlawful war follows the Dutch government’s recent unanimous report and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan’s clear statements.

This stunning information was disclosed at the UK Chilcot inquiry by the testimony of Foreign Affairs leading legal advisor, Sir Michael Wood, who added that the reply from Prime Minister Tony Blair’s office to his legal department’s professional work was chastisement for putting their unanimous legal opinion in writing.

Jewish settlers seek to recruit Indian immigrants to occupied territories

The Israeli government is reported to have quietly approved the fast-track immigration of 7,000 members of a supposedly “lost Jewish” tribe, known as the Bnei Menashe, currently living in a remote area of India.

”The Bnei Menashe belong to an ethnic group called the Shinlung, who number more than one million and live mainly in the states of Manipur and Mizoram, close to the border with Myanmar. They were converted from animism to Christianity by British missionaries a century ago, but a small number claim to have kept an ancient connection to Judaism.
“DNA samples taken from the Bnei Menashe have failed so far to establish any common ancestry to Jews.”

Troops fire on starving crowds in Haiti

The total number of American military personnel in Haiti, including those on ships just offshore, rose to 15,400 by Tuesday. One third of these are soldiers on the ground in and around Port-au-Prince, with the bulk of them from the 82nd Airborne Division, an elite unit that specializes in combat, not logistical support.

A French reporter asked why US troops were controlling flights into the Port-au-Prince airport. Preval replied: "You need to run the airport, you need technical help and they offered it to us. I really can’t understand why the need for that is so difficult to accept."

Preval also announced that Haitian legislative elections, previously scheduled for February 28, would be postponed indefinitely.

Pentagon calls for ‘Office of Strategic Deception’

Deception is a common war-time tactic nations use to gain a leg up on their enemies, but as Wired notes, the Pentagon apparently believes the United States must begin engaging in strategic tricks even before it wages war against another country.

"Deception cannot succeed in wartime without developing theory and doctrine in peacetime," the DSB report reads. "In order to mitigate or impart surprise, the United States should [initiate] deception planning and action prior to the need for military operations."

If You Rebuild It, They Will Come, by Paul Shirley

I do not know if what I'm about to write makes me a monster. I do know that it makes me a part of a miniscule minority, if Internet trends and news stories of the past weeks are any guide.

"It", is this:

I haven't donated a cent to the Haitian relief effort. And I probably will not.

I haven't donated to the Haitian relief effort for the same reason that I don’t give money to homeless men on the street. Based on past experiences, I don’t think the guy with the sign that reads "Need You’re Help" is going to do anything constructive with the dollar I might give him. If I use history as my guide, I don't think the people of Haiti will do much with my money either.

Haiti Gets a Penny of Each U.S. Aid Dollar

Of each U.S. taxpayer dollar, 40 cents is going to the U.S. military, paying for security, search and rescue teams, and the Navy's hospital ship USNS Comfort.

Another 36 cents funds US AID's disaster assistance - everything from $5,000 generators to $35 hygiene kits with soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste for a family of five.

Just over a dime has already been spent on food: 122 million pounds of pinto beans, black beans, rice, corn soy blend and vegetable oil. When purchased in bulk, the actual food prices are relatively low. Pinto beans, for example, cost the U.S. government 40 cents a pound when purchased in 5 million-pound batches last week.

Obama’s State of the Union will be all about him: last speech referenced himself 132 times

*hyperlinks and video live at source*

Wise advice for understanding political commitment is to analyze where our political “leaders” spend our money, never from what they say. However, when political arrogance supersedes intelligent management of speeches, even what presidents say become quite revealing.

The following less-than-2-minute video created by a member of Americans for Prosperity documents Mr. Obama giving a speech trying to convince an audience at an Ohio community college on January 22, 2010 that the economy will improve, all evidence to the contrary. In this speech allegedly about leadership in the face of near-record unemployment, our President talks about himself 132 times. Eugene Robinson also points out that Mr. Obama articulated “fighting” for us 20 times.

(or, What to Watch Out For)

"What I Want To Know Is..." – issue #1

American citizen: if you think the danger is only relevant to those with "something to hide," you had better think again. Please.(Anonymous)

The makers of our constitution undertook to secure conditions favorable to the pursuit of happiness... They sought to protect Americans in their beliefs, their thoughts, their emotions and their sensations. They conferred, as against the government, the right to be let alone – the most comprehensive of the rights and the right most valued by civilized men. (Justice Louis D. Brandeis)

Soon it will be possible to assert almost continuous surveillance over every citizen and maintain up-to-date complete files containing even the most personal information about the citizen... (Zbigniew Brezhinsky)

A friend of mine saw the PDF and shook his head, saying, "Its always been about the same thing: The drugs and the downloads. What they've wanted all along." If this is true - and I think it is - then quite a few people are in for a surprise.... Five years ago, ten years ago, there would only have been hints...One could tell, however, that the new technology could easily handle substitutions.... Like one knows when they really want dissidents, they talk child porn; when they want drugs, they talk explosives; when they want file-sharers, well, they try not to say anything until the scheme is underway.

...Try to make out at what they take such urgent, deliberate, expensive aim.... What will become of this, of us? How far, given what we know, will it actually go? And what I really want to know is, what can I - can we - do about it? Hopefully knowledge is power. Tell people about this. Post it. Email it. Find other documents like it while you can. Download them, just in case. Let us keep what Freedom we have; let us figure out how to reclaim the rest.

Focus on Haiti: Washington's Militarized Takeover

After Washington ousted President Jean-Betrand Aristide in February 2004, UN Blue Helmets (MINUSTAH) occupied Haiti as paramilitary enforcers. They still do, subordinate to around 20,000 US land and sea based troops, including Marines, Army 82nd Airborne paratroupers, Navy assault ships, and Coast Guard vessels offshore, a powerful force for indefinite occupation, severe repression, and ruthless exploitation for American interests - obstructing, not providing, humanitarian aid, and facilitating potentially hundreds of thousands of deaths from starvation, dehydration, disease, untreated wounds, trauma, and for some perhaps just giving up and expiring unnoticed, unreported, and uncared about by forces able to help.

Report says Al-Qaeda still aims to use weapons of mass destruction against U.S.

The report, by a former senior CIA official who led the agency's hunt for weapons of mass destruction, portrays al-Qaeda's leaders as determined and patient, willing to wait for years to acquire the kind of weapons that could inflict widespread casualties.

The former official, Rolf Mowatt-Larssen, draws on his knowledge of classified case files to argue that al-Qaeda has been far more sophisticated in its pursuit of weapons of mass destruction than is commonly believed, pursuing parallel paths to acquiring weapons and forging alliances with groups that can offer resources and expertise.

Webmaster's Commentary:

More ratcheting up the fear factor, I see.

First, a couple of quick factoids, and then to the matter at hand.

The word "al Qaeda", in Arabic, means "the base".

However, in colloquial Arabic slang, it means "the toilet". Could someone please explain to me why any self-respecting insurgency name their movement "the toilet"?!?!?

And good old (and quite dead) CIA asset Osama Bin Laden (a fact thoroughly ignored in this article). Although made the scapegoat of the 9/11 attacks, here is the truth about how deep that relationship between the CIA and Ben Laden actually went.

As reported at:

"Tim Osman (Ossman) has recently become better known as Osama Bin Ladin. "Tim Osman" was the name assigned to him by the CIA for his tour of the U.S. and U.S. military bases, in search of political support and armaments. [...] There is some evidence that Tim Osman ... visited the White House. There is certainty that Tim Osman toured some U.S. military bases, even receiving special demonstrations of the latest equipment. Why hasn't this been reported in the major media?"

Apparently, this particular author loves to lump every single insurgency into "the toilet", oops, I'm sorry, Al Qaeda.

I wish absolutely no ill or injury coming to the people of the US, coming from any direction, period, end of discussion.

However, that being said, what mightily unnerves me is the potential reality that the next massive attack against the US may not come from any insurgent groups pwishing us ill of some sort.

But such an attack may well come from our own government in the form of a "false flag" shock and awe event, which will so psychologically devastate the American people that they will clamor for martial law, and line up behind whatever devastation the government has in mind for the alleged perpetrator (let's say, Iran, for example.)

People like this Rolf Mowatt-Larrsen are paid to pump up the volume on collective fear, and to deflect attention away from the real issues.

People around the world do not hate America "because we are free"; they hate us, particularly in areas like Pakistan, and Afghanistan, because they are seeing their loved ones being blown to smithereens to order to control their countries' natural resources, like oil, which are crucial to military operations, and drugs, from which so many profit so handsomely.

They hate us for our support of US-backed dictators, like Mubarak in Egypt, Karzai in Afghanistan, and Selah in Yemen. This country's officials cannot speak with straight faces about their commitment to democracy in the world while supporting such rulers because they are "our thugs".

It is not the insurgents, ultimately, who are the culprits here: it is the colossal, consistent failure of US foreign policy-makers to find ways of obtaining what this country needs without going to war to get it.

China and Russia have been making deals around the globe to secure the energy resources they need; we've been waging wars to obtain the same objectives.

Please remember: as late as August of 2001, the Bush administration was negotiating with the Taliban for pipeline rights in Afghanistan. Apparently, the price the Taliban demanded was "too high".

And we all know what happened next.

Schwarzenegger proposes Mexican jails take US inmates

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has suggested the state could reduce prison spending by housing undocumented inmates in Mexican jails.

Mr Schwarzenegger said the costs of building and running the prisons in Mexico would be half of California's.

Earlier this month, the California governor declared a fiscal emergency, announcing that severe cuts would be needed to stem a $19.9bn (£12.3bn) deficit.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Has California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger gone barking mad?!?

With a 19 billion dollar deficit, where the sam hill is this money supposed to come from?!?

The problem is not just California, in terms of warehousing illegal aliens: it's nationwide, because there is absolutely no enthusiasm in Washington to really control the country's highly porous borders.

This is not helped by the reality that large corporations love the cheap labor illegal aliens provide.

This is also not helped by successions of Mexican governments unable to provide a decent living or economy for its own people, thereby covertly encouraging illegal immigration.

Other countries manage to enforce and protect their borders; but here in the US there is no political will to resolve this issue, so the situation will just continue to get worse nationally.

Haiti PM begs for help as looting grips devastated Port-au-Prince

Haiti's premier begged foreign donors Monday to back the reconstruction of his quake-hit country as fresh looting and chaotic food hand-outs underscored the grim conditions facing survivors.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If true, this demonstrates that despite all the photo ops of US troops handing out supplies and food, that very little is actually getting to the people who need it most desperately.

If in fact there is looting, it becomes yet another "excuse" for the US military to forcibly occupy the island and create a total martial law environment.

That will make it easier to grant sweetheart deals to companies salivating for the rights to exploit Haiti's mineral and oil wealth.

And ultimately, the people of Haiti will be no better off than they were before the quake struck.

Obama Budget to Call for Freeze in Non-Security Discretionary Spending

Defenders of Clinton will say that her disimpassioned, monotone, photo-op speech was needed to draw attention to the plight of the Haitians. Securing Disaster in Haiti

Nine days after the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti on 12 January 2010, it's now clear that the initial phase of the U.S.-led relief operation has conformed to the three fundamental tendencies that have shaped the more general course of the island's recent history. [1] It has adopted military priorities and strategies. It has sidelined Haiti's own leaders and government, and ignored the needs of the majority of its people. And it has proceeded in ways that reinforce the already harrowing gap between rich and poor. All three tendencies aren't just connected, they are mutually reinforcing.

War Is Sin

War Is Sin
Posted on Jun 1, 2009
By Chris Hedges
The crisis faced by combat veterans returning from war is not simply a profound struggle with trauma and alienation. It is often, for those who can slice through the suffering to self-awareness, an existential crisis. War exposes the lies we tell ourselves about ourselves. It rips open the hypocrisy of our religions and secular institutions. Those who return from war have learned something which is often incomprehensible to those who have stayed home. We are not a virtuous nation. God and fate have not blessed us above others. Victory is not assured. War is neither glorious nor noble. And we carry within us the capacity for evil we ascribe to those we fight.

In front of the presidential palace, its roof folded in like a collapsed soufflé, Marcellus Samuel, a Haitian preacher, grabs my notebook and scribbles frantically on to the page.

“There is no help. Everybody is sleeping in the streets. We need food, water and clothes,” he writes. “URGENTLY!”

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US invasion and occupation of Haiti has nothing to do with real relief efforts for the people of Haiti; it is a calculated military takeover, the purpose of which is to secure oil and mineral resources for private companies at bargain basement prices.

in a poll taken by Research 2000 which showed that 18 percent of people who voted for Barack Obama in 2008 supported Scott Brown in the Senate race. Of that group an overwhelming majority - 82 percent - favored a public option health plan while just 14 percent oppose it. Of those who stayed home 86 percent support a public option while just 7 percent oppose it.

Jill Stein Green-Rainbow Party co-chair noted that “Without the ’public option‘ voters Scott Brown would not have been elected. Interpreting Brown’s victory as a mandate to weaken the health care bill misses the boat – and is the opposite of what voters are saying. The Brown win is a directive to go back to the drawing boards to create a public-option improved Medicare-for-all bill.

US Army ordered to stop giving out food to Haitians

Soldiers in Haiti told to stop handing out food
By Jim Michaels - USA TODAY
Posted : Friday Jan 22, 2010
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti — Food handouts were shut off Tuesday to thousands of people at a tent city here when the main U.S. aid agency said the Army should not be distributing the packages.
"Tuesday morning, the helicopters came only with water. Soldiers carried boxes of water in the hot sun and supervised Haitian volunteers who handed the supplies out."

US Security Company Offers to Perform "High Threat Terminations" and to Confront "Worker Unrest" in Haiti

We saw this type of Iraq-style disaster profiteering in New Orleans and you can expect to see a lot more of this in Haiti over the coming days, weeks and months. Private security companies are seeing big dollar signs in Haiti thanks in no small part to the media hype about “looters.” After Katrina, the number of private security companies registered (and unregistered) multiplied overnight. Banks, wealthy individuals, the US government all hired private security. I even encountered Israeli mercenaries operating an armed check-point outside of an elite gated community in New Orleans. They worked for a company called Instinctive Shooting International. (That is not a joke).

US says it will stay in Haiti for long term

Despite criticism for the US military presence in quake-stricken Haiti, Washington says it has a long-term plan to stay in the country.

"We are there for the long term, this is not something that will be resolved quickly and easily," US Ambassador to the UN Alejandro Wolff said on Thursday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With all the oil and mineral wealth just waiting to be exploited, you can bet with absolute certainty that the US will stay in Haiti just as long as humanly possible.

Haiti - starving survivors reduced to eating grass

The eyes of the world are on Haiti but at the epicentre of the earthquake that shattered her country, Anite Bertrand wonders why they cannot seem to see her. Nearly two weeks after the devastation was unleashed, she has received no aid, her home is an open patch of grass under a tree, and her only food the leaves that fall from branches overhead.
"We have nothing so we pick up the leaves, boil them in water from the river and eat them, no-one has come to help us and we cannot live like this. It is not possible to live on leaves."

Israel’s diabolical hybrid: Avigdor Lieberman and Ehud Barak

Uri Avnery highlights the future and present dangers posed by Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Defence Minister Ehud Barak, the former an openly racist settler who advocates the expulsion of Israel’s Arab citizens and the latter a criminal who has just awarded university status to a settler college in the occupied West Bank.

”The Spanish government has already declared a boycott of the Ariel college and cancelled its participation in an international architectural competition run by Spain.

“I hope that more governments and academic institutions will follow this example and declare a boycott on this ‘university’.

Haiti: Bonanza for Foreign Mining Companies

"With the Coup D'etat now, though the people know where these resources are because this book exists, they don't know who these foreign companies are. What they're profit margins are. What the environmental protection rules and regulations to protect them are. Many folks, for instance, in the North talk about losing their property, having people come in with guns and taking over their property.

So that's where we are."

Ron Paul Warns Of Coming “Social And Political Chaos”

Paul warns that if the country continues along the course it is on, we will witness a three stage slide into social and political chaos, beginning with the current financial crisis, a coming dollar crisis, and culminating in mass unrest.

“We are rapidly moving toward a dangerous time in our history. Society as we know it is vulnerable to political and social unrest. This impending crisis comes as a consequence of our flawed foreign and domestic economic policies, a silly notion of money, ignorance about central banking, ignoring the onerous power and mischief of out of control intelligence agencies, our unsustainable welfare state and a willingness to sacrifice privacy and civil liberties in an attempt to achieve safety and security from an inept government.”

Our Supreme Court Has Lost Its Mind

Now the cat is truly out of the bag. In principle, corporations can now spend as much of the treasury as shareholders will allow on such political ads. This means that every decision maker in a corporation has contribution and voting rights equal to anyone on the street, while the firm may blast away with treasury funds to bolster management preferences.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US government is now truly, and openly, up for sale to the highest bidder.

Haiti: Bonanza for Foreign Mining Companies

I understand your organization has been following the issue of foreign mining companies coming to Haiti and prospecting.

Especially in the North of Haiti.

There are now at least three Canadian companies prospecting for gold and copper in Northeast Haiti and two of these companies have really expanded their operations within this past year. Why the rush to start mining in Haiti right now or to start prospecting in Haiti, right now, in the middle of a recession of all things?

Ezili Dantò: Well perhaps because Haiti right now is under occupation and the people, their voice is not being heard.

This is a very good time for foreign companies to be granted concessions, because the folks in office are not representing the people of Haiti.

U.S. DISA and SOUTHCOM Haiti Disaster Drills "went live"

....On Monday, Jean Demay, DISA's technical manager for the agency's Transnational Information Sharing Cooperation project, happened to be at the headquarters of the U.S. Southern Command in Miami preparing for a test of the system in a scenario that involved providing relief to Haiti in the wake of a hurricane. After the earthquake hit on Tuesday, Demay said SOUTHCOM decided to go live with the system. On Wednesday, DISA opened up its All Partners Access Network, supported by the Transnational Information Sharing Cooperation project, to any organization supporting Haiti relief efforts.

The information sharing project, developed with backing from both SOUTHCOM and the Defense Department's European Command, has been in development for three years. It is designed to facilitate multilateral collaboration between federal and nongovernmental agencies.

The United States’ slide to corporatocracy

Following the US Supreme Court ruling that removed restrictions on corporate donations to political campaigns, Daniel Patrick Welch looks forward to a day in the not-too-distant future where there will be congressmen representing corporations and where homelessness and disease will vanish because no one will count the homeless or diagnose the sick.

”To those who envision a grey, faceless corporate future, I say lighten up. I see a warmer, fuzzier world where politicians might even become sort of expensive, exotic pets, like say a python, an ostrich or a pot-bellied pig.”

Cuba, China, Venezuela Send Immediate Assistance to Haiti

As soon as the devastating earthquake struck Haiti on Jan. 12, Cuban doctors began saving lives.

Years before this monumental disaster hit, Cuba had set up a medical mission in Haiti to provide health care in areas where there had been little or none; Cubans also were training Haitian medical workers in basic first aid. When the quake struck, these teams quickly went into emergency mode.

A relief plane from Venezuela was among the first to land in the stricken country, where normal services had ground to a halt. Venezuelan and Brazilian doctors soon joined the Cuban teams, who were accustomed to working in spartan conditions and had their own generators to power surgical equipment.

Fourteen votes would be required to adopt any recommendation, meaning that at least half the Republicans would have to agree. 1997: Secretary of Defense Reveals Earthquake Weapons Threat

from a post at Democratic Undergroound edited by Minstrel Boy on Wed Dec-24-03:

In 1997 William Cohen, then-Secretary of Defense, spoke of countries "engaging even in an eco-type of terrorism whereby they can alter the climate, set off earthquakes, volcanoes remotely through the use of electromagnetic waves."

...My thought: if Cohen was serious, then we can assume the US is a leader in the field.
