US forces denied permission for the Jacobabad air strips to be used for relief operations

PAKISTAN: US government must allow air strips to be used for relief operations for 700,000 flood-affected people
Source: Asian Human Rights Commission
Date: 19 Aug 2010
It is reported in the media that relief operations for around 700,000 persons could not be carried out because an airbase in Jacobabad district, Sindh province, is controlled by the US forces. The US forces denied permission for the air strips to be used to deliver much-needed relief to the adjoining areas which are submerged in water and where 700,000 people are trapped. As there are no other air strips in the vast area close to Jacobabad and its adjoining areas, the authorities are finding it difficult to drop the relief in the flood-affected areas.

Dennis Kucinich: The War in Iraq Has Entered a New Stage of Public Relations

Who is in charge of our operations in Iraq, now? George Orwell? A war based on lies continues to be a war based on lies. Today, we have a war that is not a war, with combat troops who are not combat troops. In 2003, President Bush said 'Mission Accomplished'. In 2010, the White House says combat operations are over in Iraq, but will leave 50,000 troops, many of whom will inevitably be involved in combat-related activities.

The Mosque or Community Center

By Debbie Menon

President Barack Obama on Friday backed the construction of a proposed mosque and Muslim cultural center, then retracted. No surprise there, to retract or weasel out, has become the norm for any American in a position of influence, including the President, the General or anyone speaking against Zionist interests in America.
“As a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country,” Obama said to applause at an event attended by diplomats from Islamic countries and members of the U.S. Muslim community. “That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances,” he said.

The Economy is in Big Trouble

The Obama administration had bet everything that the economy had turned the corner and would gradually get better. Many economists saw less than a 10 per cent chance that the economy would tip back into recession. After all, double dip recessions are "extremely rare". Now more people are losing their jobs and Team Obama is caught in the headlights. There is no back-up plan, no Plan B. The Democrats will face the midterms with no stimulus to create new jobs and with an economy that is steadily deteriorating. It's going to be a massacre and they know it.

Webmaster's Commentary:

For centuries,. academics argued back and forth about how best to make epicycles work, never daring to question whether the basic concept of the Earth-centered universe was itself flawed. Today we face the same problem. Economists and politicians fight back and forth about how to make the economy work, never daring to question whether the basic concept of a private bank issuing the public currency at interest is itself flawed.

I relocated from a comfortable life in Ohio to be part of building a Palestinian state. I advise some of the most strategic investors in Palestine. If my experience as a business consultant is any indication, Palestine’s investment community remains in a wait-and-see mode. More peace talks will not spark the significant investments required to build an economy that can serve an emerging state. Serious state-building economic development requires land, water, access, movement, ports, and spectrum, which Israel remains in full control of today. My clients, and many like them, refuse to be misled, yet again, by another round of empty talk from politicians as settlements go up in East Jerusalem.

The Phases of an Empire

David Redick
Activist Post

The analysis below explains why all empires and "Imperial Style" governments have failed throughout history, and why our Empire-USA faces the same fate. The only question is whether the people and government of the USA have the wisdom and will to engage in a "Managed Decline" by terminating the empire and imperial conduct on their own schedule, rather than by chaotic crash of the US Dollar, economy, and lifestyle. Take notice of the "Solutions" section in Part C below.

Part A: Key Points

An Empire is a nation that: 1) Owns colonies, and/or 2) Controls, or has great influence over, other nations. Empires require economic and military strength to start and maintain, and this is expensive.

UN report: IDF barring Gazans' access to farms, fishing zones

Over the last ten years, the Israel Defense Forces have increasingly restricted Palestinian access to farmland on the Gazan side of the Israeli-Gaza border as well as to fishing zones along the Gaza beach, a United Nations report revealed Thursday.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) wrote in the report, complied in cooperation with the World Food Program (WFP), that Israel's justification for these restrictions was the prevention of attacks on Israel, including the firing of rockets.

The report was compiled in an effort to understand the extent of the restrictions as well as their effect on the Palestinians' sense of personal security, their ability to make a living and their ability to access services. The report was based on more than 100 interviews and focus group meetings, as well as the analysis of data gathered from other sources.

According to the report, since 2008 the IDF has prevented access to land up to 1,500 meters outside the Green Line, and to naval zones up to 4.5 kilometers from the shore. All in all the IDF restricts access to 17 percent of Gaza's territory. At sea, the fishermen are completely barred from 85 percent of the naval territory to which they are entitled under the Oslo Accords.

The report estimates that some 178,000 individuals are directly affected by these access restrictions.

More evidence links pesticides to hyperactivity

A growing body of evidence is suggesting that exposure to organophosphate pesticides is a prime cause of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, ADHD. The findings are considered plausible to many experts because the pesticides are designed to attack the nervous systems of insects. It is not surprising, then, that they should also impinge on the nervous systems of humans who are exposed to them.

Forty organophosphate pesticides are registered in the United States, with at least 73 million pounds used each year in agricultural and residential settings.

ADHD is thought to affect 3% to 7% of American children, with boys affected more heavily than girls. Many experts believe its incidence has increase sharply in recent decades, but critics attribute the increased incidence to over-diagnosis. Some attribute the increase to the greater use of pesticides.

Why It's Too Darn Hot

It turns out there is an explanation for the unusual levels of heat from Russia to Pakistan to Japan. It is a meteorological phenomenon called “blocking events” and they are related to the jet stream.

As a result, weather systems sat still. Temperatures rocketed and rainfall reached extremes.”

Scientific proof that the Deepwater oil plume is over 20 miles long

The actual existence of the plume was in some doubt until a team of researchers at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution provided incontrovertible proof. The researchers managed to catch up with the plume about three miles southwest of the original blowout location, then used a remote-controlled submarine and an underwater spectrometer to figure out its dimensions. They were able to study the plume for ten days in June before Hurricane Alex forced them from the area. It's still not known whether this was the only plume or whether others formed, and the team said at a press conference today that they would be unwilling to commit themselves either way on that point.

MEDIA SCRAMBLES TO CHANGE "Oil spill and Iraq combat over, Obama takes break"

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a search page for the story "Oil spill and Iraq combat over, Obama takes break" posted earlier today. Apparently the reaction has been quite negative because if you click these links now, the story has now been replaced by one about Obama visiting a bookstore (like this is something we should find interesting).

Here are the original first few lines of the story that is being "Orwellized" as I type!

Finally, President Barack Obama can relax on vacation.

The Gulf oil spilled is plugged. The last combat troops are out of Iraq. And Congress is on its own summer break.

Clearly, the oil disaster is still a disaster, 52,000 US troops remain in Iraq, and somebody realized that this display of Presidential Arrogance was not going to help the Democrats this election season.

Bush & Cheney Walk Free While They Indict Roger Clemens - American Justice

Let me start out by saying I am not a Roger Clemens fan. To me he seems like a mentally disturbed person. Ever since he threw the head of a broken bat at Mike Piazza who was running to first base at the time, I knew they guy was either on drugs or he was a mental case. He also represents one of the two things that ruined baseball for me...free agency (not-Clemens related), and steroids (and Clemens is part of that problem!)

That said, let me be the latest to point out that Congress had no business spending time worrying about baseball; not on our time and not on our dime. Let me put this in perspective...the world has ample evidence, or, how should I say this...PROOF, that the invasion of Iraq was started on false pretenses that were know to be false at the time they were made. To put this simply the Iraq invasion was the proverbial war based on lies. Folks...there is no higher crime a President can commit than committing his nation to war based on lies...and George W. Bush, as Dick Cheney's puppet, did this.

And what does Congress spend time doing while we have war criminals walking around free? They investigate baseball. Baseball...a game...where the worst crimes committed have more to do with ticket and hot dog prices than artificially inflated statistics and performance.

22-Mile Oil Plume Found in Gulf

Scientists have detected an underwater plume of oil the size of Manhattan, according to the Wall Street Journal. The findings, published yesterday, further undermine the Obama administration’s optimistic view that most of the Deepwater Horizon oil has already disappeared.

Giant Underwater Plume Confirmed—Gulf Oil Not Degrading

Many scientists had predicted that oil-eating bacteria—already common in the Gulf due to natural oil seeps—would process much of the crude leaked from BP's Deepwater Horizon wellhead, which was capped July 15. (Read more about how nature is fighting the oil spill.)

But new evidence shows that a 22-mile-long (35-kilometer-long), 650-foot-high (200-meter-high) pocket of oil has persisted for months at depths of 3,600 feet (1,100 meters), according to a team from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) in Massachusetts.

Who's blowing up Iran's gas pipelines?

In the past few weeks Iran’s gas infrastructure, which is central to the country’s energy requirements, has been hit by a series of unexplained explosions.

The series of mysterious explosions began at the end of July when the state-owned Tehran Times reported that a pipeline carrying gas from Iran to Turkey had exploded near the eastern Turkish town of Dogubayazit. Iranian officials blamed the blast on Kurdish rebels.

This was followed earlier this month by reports in the Iranian press of an explosion in a gas pipeline on the outskirts of Tabriz. A few days later there was a more serious incident on August 4 when five people were killed when another gas pipeline exploded on the outskirts of the Pardis petrochemical plant. The explosion took place just a week after Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had made an official visit to the complex. Finally, on August 10, a pipeline exploded in the city of Masjed Sleiman.

Government Gadfly in Teaneck, N.J., Is Killed

Ms. Davis, 74, was found dead on Tuesday in her burning Tudor-style home on Alpine Drive. Her yard was not unlike the other well-manicured yards in the neighborhood, but for the yellow irises she grew by the curb and a sign that hung from her front door reading, “Friends for Peace.”

But officials said Ms. Davis had died violently behind that door. They ruled her death a homicide, and local news reports, citing a source in law enforcement, said her hands had been bound and her head bludgeoned. There has been no mention of any suspects.

The killing of Ms. Davis, a longtime political watchdog and gadfly, has left residents wondering whether the attack was random or the result of a personal vendetta.

BBC’s flotilla film slammed as ‘biased’

A BBC documentary screened this week that investigated the Gaza flotilla incident on May 31 is causing a storm of protest – from critics of Israel, who are furious that the program was not as hostile to Israel as they thought it should be.

The critics, including an activist from the Free Gaza movement who was aboard the Mavi Marmara, are organizing demonstrations on Sunday outside the BBC’s London headquarters and other BBC offices, and are calling for a mass campaign of complaints to the BBC in general and the program makers in particular.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Black Swans Need Not Apply (6 Reasons Why the Economy is Going Down)

I was pounding pavement instead of kicking rocks recently, on Wall Street of all places. There were Suits hanging around outside the familiar iconic buildings, despondently smoking cigarettes. In my surely biased opinion, the feel of the place was distinctly less energetic than usual.

But what really struck me was not one, but two guys with sandwich-board placards announcing “WE BUY GOLD” – for different companies.

Just afterward, while having lunch at Rockefeller Center, my sister, a conservative mainstream banker, called and asked me how to go about buying physical gold. I knew that day was coming, just as I knew the Soviet Union was destined to collapse sooner or later from the weight of its own economic stupidity, but it was still a shocker when it happened.

'The Invasion of Iraq Was Wrong, Unjust and Damaging'

US President Barack Obama had pledged to bring the troops home during his election campaign. And by Aug. 31 there will be just 50,000 US troops in the country, a contingent which is to take on a non-combat role. Yet doubts persist that Obama can fulfil his promise to have all the soldiers out of the country by the end of 2011.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I suspect that the troops will start flowing back into Iraq right after the November elections.

Deconstructing the Official Narrative on the U.S. Withdrawal from Iraq

One may recall President George W. Bush announcing the end of major combat operations on May 1, 2003, speaking on board an aircraft carrier under a sign declaring “Mission Accomplished”. More than seven years later, the announced “end” of “Operation Iraqi Freedom” may be similarly illusory.

U.S. withdrawal from IraqThe Post also notes that “About 50,000 U.S. troops will remain in Iraq, mainly as a training force”, and concedes that “There might never be an acknowledged end to the Iraq war – a moment where it ceases being America’s conflict.” Or a moment where the U.S. military presence in Iraq truly comes to an end, for that matter.

Dollar dips below 85 yen in New York

The US dollar dropped below 85 yen at one point on the New York foreign exchange market during Thursday morning trading.

The decline came after the Labor Department announcement that claims for unemployment benefits unexpectedly rose last week, suggesting that the employment situation is worsening.

The US dollar fell below 85 yen for the first time in a week, and briefly entered into the upper 84 yen range.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"Normal" Yen to Dollar rate should be 142 Yen to the Dollar which it was for many years.

Schwarzenegger Orders Furloughs to Start After Top California Court Rules

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said 150,000 government workers must begin taking time off without pay starting Aug. 20 following a court ruling lifting an injunction temporarily blocking the furloughs.

The California Supreme Court, saying it would review the governor’s plan, stayed decisions by lower courts that had halted the furloughs. Schwarzenegger directed state workers to take three unpaid days off each month to save cash. The high court set a Sept. 8 hearing on a challenge to the order.

Zionist Lobby Paid Off U.S. Journalists To Sell Israeli Foreign Policy

Newly declassified documents highlighting how the Israeli lobby routinely paid off journalists in the U.S. corporate media to write pro-Zionist propaganda in support of Israeli aggression against Palestine and Iran during the 60’s have taken on new significance after the Atlantic Monthly, which is named in the documents as being complicit in the bribing scandal, recently published a cover story hyping the necessity and inevitability of an Israeli attack on Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel spent $36 million (that is known about) to bribe the presstitutes at ABCNNBBCBS. I do not need to tell you that much of that money came from your pocket, sent to Israel by the US Government in def8iance of the Symington Amendment and the Glenn act.

Homeowners' Rebellion: Could 62 Million Homes Be Foreclosure-Proof?

Over 62 million mortgages are now held in the name of MERS, an electronic recording system devised by and for the convenience of the mortgage industry. A California bankruptcy court, following landmark cases in other jurisdictions, recently held that this electronic shortcut makes it impossible for banks to establish their ownership of property titles--and therefore to foreclose on mortgaged properties. The logical result could be 62 million homes that are foreclosure-proof.

The number of Americans applying for unemployment benefits rose by 12,000 last week, according to a report issued by the Labor Department Thursday, bringing the total to 500,000, the highest level since November 2009. Petraeus: We’re Not Leaving Iraq

As Obama Administration officials and a willing mainstream media report that yesterday was the end of the Iraq War it would likely surprise many that 56,000 US troops remain on the ground engaging in combat operations.

But it seems like the spin is even more surprising to the Pentagon leadership, as Gen. David Petraeus was pressed today on whether this was the right time to have left Iraq, and he said what he most likely wasn’t supposed to say.

Top Oil Expert: Geology is "Fractured" ... BP is Using a "Cloak of Silence", Refusing to Share Even Basic Data with the Government

The geology is fractured.

Usually, the deeper you drill, the more pressure it takes to fracture rock. This is called the "fracture gradient".

But when BP was drilling this well, the fracture gradient reversed. Indeed, BP lost all pressure as it drilled into the formation.

WB: Is it possible that this fractured, subsea salt geology will make it difficult to permanently kill the oil leak using relief wells?

Bea: Yes, it could. The Santa Barbara channel seeps are still leaking, decades after the oil well was supposedly capped. This well could keep leaking for years.

BP accused of withholding 'critical' spill data

The company that owned the oil rig that exploded in the Gulf of Mexico is accusing BP of withholding critical evidence needed to investigate the cause of the worst offshore oil spill in U.S. history, according to a confidential document obtained by The Associated Press. BP called the claims a publicity stunt.

The new complaint by Transocean follows similar complaints by U.S. lawmakers about difficulties obtaining necessary information from BP in their investigations.

Bizarre slideshow on Telegraph's web site depicts mini-nuke attack on 7 cities

A rather bizarre looking series of slide shows on the UK mainstream media website Telegraph.co.uk under the name "Blackjack" appears to depict a mini-nuke attack on London, England followed by similar attacks on NYC , Washington DC, Toronto, LA, Portland Oregon, and Mexico City. It starts of with MI5 getting a warning that "a coalition of home-grown extremists, Islamists, and Christian doomsday cultists may have acquired the means to carry out a mass-casualty attack..."

There is very little text to explain what is going on, just the depictions of the cities undergoing what appears to be mini-nuke attacks and then the pics also appears to depict the formation of a new state comprising England and North America after these attacks.

Rather bizarre looking for a mainstream media type web site. Looks like someone is pulling a psy-op.

On Edit, ok it looks like this is old news from 2009 and has been discussed in prisonplanet.com articles, but this was the first time I saw it and it just struck my as very psy-op like.

"I am not a racist, but I am a realist. And I am calling on African-Americans to start doing something. I am saying we have to accept responsibility for ourselves. We have to stop using racism as a crutch. We have to stop blaming everybody for our misery. We have to start pooling our resources, starting businesses, and supporting those businesses.... Look how many black millionaires are there. Why can’t they start pooling some resources? Investing in light manufacturing, making clothes, shoes, and all of those things? Creating jobs? Why can’t we start pooling our resources, go into businesses?"

Unguarded border bridges could be route into US

On each side of a towering West Texas stretch of the $2.4 billion border fence designed to block people from illegally entering the country, there are two metal footbridges, clear paths into the United States from Mexico.

The footpaths that could easily guide illegal immigrants and smugglers across the Rio Grande without getting wet seem to be there because of what amounts to federal linguistics. While just about anyone would call them bridges, the U.S.-Mexico group that owns them calls them something else.

Researchers say they saw 22-mile hydrocarbon plume in Gulf

Scientists at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution said they detected a plume of hydrocarbons in June that was at least 22 miles long and more than 3,000 feet below the surface of the Gulf of Mexico, a residue of the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

According to the institution, the 1.2-mile-wide, 650-foot-high plume of trapped hydrocarbons provides at least a partial answer to recent questions asking where all the oil has gone as surface slicks shrink and disappear.

Ten Reasons to Become Self-Sufficient and Ten Ways to Get There

Michael Edwards and Jeffrey Green
Activist Post

We are now three to five generations removed from the rural backbone that strengthened America. The world at large has undergone a similar transformation as the promise of easier work has created a migration to big cities. These mega-cities could be seen as an experiment gone awry, as general well-being has declined, with suicide rates increasing across the world. Crowded conditions and economic strife have led to rampant crime, pollution, corporate malfeasance, and a dog-eat-dog type of competition that can be described as a temporary insanity.

US Announces Second Fake End to Iraq War

It was another of those great TV moments. Embedded reports filming as the “last” brigade of American troops in Iraq cross the border into Kuwait bringing over seven years of unhappy conflict to its final, conclusive end. America was, at last, at peace.

But like so many other great TV moments, this one was a scripted fantasy, a fake exit done purely for political gain by an increasingly unpopular president trying to look like he is keeping at least one campaign promise.

It was perhaps a different sort of scripted, mythical end to the Iraq War than the last one, the May 1, 2003 “Mission Accomplished” speech of President Bush, but it was no more real, as over 50,000 US troops remain on the ground in Iraq tonight.

Neocon Petraeus Stakes Out Conflict with Obama over July 2011 Afghanistan Pullout; Lays Foundation for GOP Presidential Draft in 2012

General Petraeus has said he does not plan to run for President, but he is also making remarks that directly contradict Defense Secretary Gates and President Obama on the US withdrawal from Afghanistan. Is there a political motive at play? RT contributor Webster Tarpley said yes! He argued that while Petraeus said he has no current plans to run, this does not mean he does not have an agenda. When push comes to shove Petraeus may be on the ballot, argued Tarpley.
