Are Israel and Iran preparing for war?

(Darius Shahtahmasebi is a New Zealand-based legal and political analyst who focuses on US foreign policy in the Middle East, Asia and Pacific region. He is fully qualified as a lawyer in two international jurisdictions.)

While the US has proven somewhat reluctant to directly strike Iran or its forces, there is another power in the Middle East that appears to be increasingly willing and able to do so on Washington’s behalf: Israel.

Just last month, Israel made a rare admission that its military had carried out a “very intense” attack against Iranian forces and Syrian Army targets in Syria, killing at least 21 fighters and two civilians in the process.Earlier, the IDF destroyed a weapons depot for Iranian-backed forces in Iraq and allegedly undertook drone strikes on Hezbollah positions in Lebanon.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump has given Netanyahu carte blanche to do anything he wants in the Middle East; unfortunately, such liberties given to Netanyahu, who is fighting for his political life, after a series of corruption charges were brought against him, was completely unwise, and absolutely not thought through.

And there is a new bill, which will most likely to hit Congress when it reconvenes in January, which Secretary of State Pompeo and Netanyahu conjured up during their last meeting, to bring the US and Israel even closer in terms of a defense posture for the US regarding Israel:

And how will this proposed pact affect the US/Israel, and the entire Middle East?!?

The following article, from digitalnews.com, spells it out for us:

Netanyahu and Pompeo push ahead with US Israel defense pact

The article goes on to state: "Netanyahu trying to use US connections to stay in power

Netanyahu is actually claiming that the deal shows he needs to stay in power because of his unique ties to the US. Details of the pact have not been released beyond the fact that it will commit the US to war to defend Israel. Those who know about the fact say that it in no way restricts Israel's practice of unilaterally attacking targets across the region. Israeli attacks on Syria and Iraq could continue."

HOLD ON, WHAT THE HELL WAS JUST STATED HERE?!? "THAT THE US WOULD GO TO WAR TO DEFEND ISRAEL?"

Forgive me, but Israel has one of the finest military on the planet; the top of the line defense weaponry; and nuclear weapons; why in the name of heaven should the US be saddled with having to defend it from its nearly pathologically wrong-headed inability to get along with any of its neighbors in the Middle East?!?

A Russian diplomat made the following promise to Iran last summer, which, of course, got no press in the US. Iran ‘Won’t Be Alone’ If U.S. Attacks, Russian Official Says

Watch for an even deeper demonization of Iran and Russia from the US presstitutes; and God help this country if this "defense pact" is ever approved of by Congress; when this passes (if the primary essense of this pact is not done by Executive Order), look for the US to be "defending" Israel not only from Iran, but Russia as well.

Trump: Cipollone likely to be main lawyer for Senate impeachment trial

President Donald Trump said on Thursday that White House lawyer Pat Cipollone is likely to be the main lawyer to represent him in the U.S. Senate's impeachment trial.

Trump's lawyers are likely to argue that there is no evidence that the president did anything wrong and that the House of Representatives investigation was partisan and flawed.

Oy Vey, 2 Jewish 'Journalists' Paid by NATO Kvetch that 'Russian Influenced Racists' Are Ruining Instagram

The mainstream media censors have hit a brick wall smearing their quarry as “racists” - the overused term no longer packs much of a punch. To really work up a good scare, they're calling the erstwhile racists “Russian-inspired.”

The 2020 US election is just around the corner and social media is crawling with wrongthink, according to the Daily Beast. This time, it’s not Russian trolls - it’s worse. The Russian trolls’ ideas have infected so-called “American neo-confederates” and created an unholy hybrid of racist Russian trolls who are unstoppable by the usual mass-deplatforming solutions used to wipe out entire nests of foreign-origin trolls. Noah Feldman: Trump Isn’t Impeached Until the House Tells Senate

Harvard Law Professor Noah Feldman, who testified in the House impeachment inquiry several weeks ago, wrote that President Donald Trump hasn’t been impeached yet and issued a warning to some Democrats who are looking to delay sending the two articles of impeachment to the Senate for a trial.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) didn’t say whether the two articles would be passed to the Senate after the House voted to approve the two articles against Trump on Wednesday evening. The speaker said that she won’t choose impeachment managers or send the two articles to the Senate until Senators agree on the trial’s rules.

“The Constitution doesn’t say how fast the articles must go to the Senate. Some modest delay is not inconsistent with the Constitution, or how both chambers usually work,” Feldman wrote on Thursday, adding that “an indefinite delay”—an idea that was proposed by some Democrats and not ruled out by Pelosi—”would pose a serious problem.”

HomeUSA NewsAll I want for Christmas is $23tn in debt: Rand Paul lays waste to reckless US spending in annual Festivus Report

Offering some relief from the impeachment spectacle grinding on in Washington, Senator Rand Paul has released his yearly Festivus Report, chronicling the outrageous – but sometimes comical – spending habits of the US government.
Whether it’s funding costly studies on the mating calls of Panamanian frogs, spending millions to improve the quality of television in Moldova or bankrolling Peru’s Green New Deal, Washington has found a number of creative ways to blow through tax dollars in 2019. In an epic “airing of grievances” inspired by the TV sitcom Seinfeld, Paul (R-KY) pulled no punches for the federal spendthrifts.

Astronomers discover secret behind ‘super-puff, cotton candy worlds’ in outer space

These “super-puff worlds” were found using the transit method, wherein objects are tracked as they dim the light of a star in the background. In the process, the light from the stars filters through the planets' atmosphere. Certain molecules block certain wavelengths of light which allows scientists to determine what the planets' atmospheres are made of. Sadly, in this case it is not candy floss or anything remotely delicious.

Two of the puff-ball planets had an opaque outer shell which baffled astronomers and sent them scrambling for an explanation.

Using computer simulations, the best fit for the planets' unique composition was a high-latitude layer of methane perched atop a mixture of hydrogen and helium, which would make them giant, leaking, versions of Saturn's moon Titan which doesn’t sound remotely appetizing.

It turns out that their atmospheres are slowly draining out into the vacuum of space, which might explain why we have found so few of them.

Starliner's Botched Launch: Why Boeing's Spacecraft Failed to Dock With ISS, and What Happens Next

On Friday, NASA and Boeing carried out a long-awaited unmanned test flight of the new Starliner spacecraft, with the crew capsule failing to dock with the International Space Station as planned.

Boeing’s $4.2 billion CST-100 Starliner crew capsule programme faced a major setback today after two glitches caused the spacecraft to veer off course. Here’s what happened:

The test flight got off to a good start, with the capsule lifting off aboard an Atlas V rocket from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida at 6:36 am EST.

In a press conference Friday morning, NASA and Boeing officials including NASA Chief Jim Bridenstine confirmed that they are looking to bring the spacecraft back down to Earth, since the capsule had burned too much of its fuel during an orbital insertion burn attempt to allow it to rendezvous with the ISS.

What Happened?

Webmaster's Commentary:

THAT... is an industrial strength ouch for Boeing.

Science-illiterate Seattle Times claims carbon MONOXIDE causes plants to produce more pollen, which is why climate change is bad… huh?

The deranged climate hysterics who work at The Seattle Times have been caught fear-mongering about the alleged threat of carbon monoxide – not carbon dioxide, or CO2, the usual target – which the paper hilariously claims is causing plants to produce too much planet-destroying pollen.

As part of a continued effort to create as many climate anxiety-inducing headlines and graphics as possible, The Seattle Times published an article recently claiming that plants are “producing more pollen because of increased levels of carbon monoxide in the air, prolonging allergy season.”

The same article goes on to claim that in addition to producing more pollen, increased carbon monoxide “reduces nutrients in the plants we eat,” while greenhouse gases “chew away at the ozone, leading to an increased risk of skin cancer.”

Transgender clinics prey on AUTISTIC children because they’re easy to manipulate, disturbing new research finds

A group of experts who used to work in the field recently came forward with a stark warning to the public about how autistic children have basically become the LGBTQ mafia’s prey of choice because of how easily these little ones buy into transgender propaganda.

As many as one in four transgenders, believe it or not, now registers on the autism spectrum. According to a paper published in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, this figure is “higher than the general population,” and the reason is because autistic children are more easily swayed to “go trans” when pressured by adults to do so.

A study out of the United States involving nearly 300,000 child participants also found that those diagnosed on the autism spectrum are more than four times likelier than their non-autistic counterparts to be diagnosed with gender dysphoria.

Int'l Criminal Court Has No Jurisdiction to Investigate in Palestinian Territories - Netanyahu

The prime minister's statement came shortly after the International Criminal Court Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda said she would open a full investigation into "the situation in Palestine" as it had been determined that war crimes had been committed there.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has slammed the International Criminal Court's intention to probe the situation in Palestinian territories. According to Netanyahu, the ICC has no jurisdiction to conduct an investigation in Palestine.

"The court has no jurisdiction in this case. The ICC only has jurisdiction over petitions submitted by sovereign states. But there has never been a Palestinian state," Netanyahu said on Friday.

The court's prosecutor Fatou Bensouda earlier in the day said that she would not require the authorisation of the Pre-Trial Chamber to launch the investigation as Palestine had asked for a probe

Webmaster's Commentary:

OK, folks, that second to the last paragraph from this article caused our BED (Bovine Excrement Detector) to rekit, and die an horrific death.

Mr. Prime Minister Netanyahu, every time you let a whopper like this out of your mouth, we are going to have to bill you, personally, for its replacement.

German Greens Propose Giving Passports to All ‘Climate Refugees’

Members of the German Green Party have proposed that so-called “climate refugees” should be allowed to move to the country and receive a German passport upon their arrival.

The proposal was championed by long-time Green politician Claudia Roth who said the passports should be made available for people in areas such as various Pacific islands, which she said could be threatened by climate change, German tabloid Bild reports.

How many “climate refugees” such a policy would cover is unclear, although the United Nations has previously claimed that there could be as many 25 million to over a billion people affected by climate change by the year 2050.

According to the Greens, the World Bank has put out the number of 140 million climate refugees by 2050 from just South Asia, South America, and Africa, all of which would theoretically be eligible for a German passport under the proposal.

EU citizens should worry about what Johnson left out of his second Queen’s Speech

Queen’s Speeches are like London buses: there’s none for years and then two turn up at once - and the comparison between October’s speech and today’s should worry EU citizens living in Britain.

A week after newly re-elected Tory Prime Minister Boris Johnson secured a Labour Party-destroying majority, he has drawn up and handed his revamped plans to the Queen to read out at the opening of (yet another) Parliament, as is the tradition. Quite an annoying tradition for her, because she only did this for Johnson a couple of months ago, and it’s fair to say little progress has been made.

It’s hard to know whether she finds the whole process dull or laborious, because the Queen reads like a well-bred automaton who’s seeing the words for the first time. Presumably this is so she doesn’t let slip any political leanings that may influence events. I think, however, we can safely assume she would vote Conservative.

Biden Clears Low Debate Bar, Likely Coming Out On Top Striking The Right Notes

Thursday night was the final and, likely decisive, debate held among Democratic presidential nominee hopefuls. So who came out on top? By most estimates, former Vice President Joe Biden gave a showing that may serve to cement his position as front runner.

In the past, Biden’s debate performance has been viewed as tepid, at best. Coupled with perception that his campaign is lacking passion, this low bar for Biden made it an easy task for him to clear Thursday night.

Biden dismissed accusations that his son, Hunter Biden, had acted improperly in Ukraine; instead, he focused on how Trump has tarnished the reputation of the United States around the world. He put forth the promise that, under a Biden presidency, this would change.

How Israel controls Palestinian bodies, both living and dead

Since 1967, hundreds of Palestinian bodies have been held by Israel: some in freezers, and others believed to be in the notorious “cemeteries of numbers”. Families of the martyrs have been trying to bring them back home.

Yet, the first demand of Palestinians is not for Israel to return our bodies; it is to stop killing us in the first place. Stop taking land, displacing families, incarcerating entire generations, and enabling a foreign population to take over what little remains of Palestinian cities, only to punish anyone who says “enough”.

Video: Military Intervention in Libya and Turkey’s Grand Game in the Eastern Mediterranean

During the past week, the situation significantly escalated in Libya, with Turkey expanding its military involvement in the conflict.

In late November, Turkey signed with the Government of National Accord (GNA), which controls only a small part of northern Libya, deals on security cooperation and maritime jurisdiction. By this move Ankara, the main backer of the GNA and pro-GNA militants, tried to legalize its economic zone claims in the eastern Mediterranean and thus legalize its controversial drilling activities in the region. At the same time, Turkey sees its involvement in the Libyan conflict as a tool of expansion of its own influence in the entire region.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is a companion piece to this, written early December, from the independent.co.uk, which sheds a little more light on this story.

Putin has turned his attention to the war in Libya as part of his aim to undermine Nato, by Ahmed Abdoulouh

The article goes on to state: "Whatever the morals over such a push, President Putin has played his hand right. The Benghazi attack on the American diplomatic compound in 2012, which resulted in Ambassador Christopher Stevens’s death, left a psychological scar in the US policy towards Libya, and Washington seems unable to find a way out of it.

This along with the chaos caused by numerous factions fighting for their own ends, shaped a perfect environment for Russia to step in. Libya, after Syria, is further proof that the policy of inaction that the Trump administration looks to employ is the biggest strategic asset Putin has. He is trying to make sure Moscow fills the gaps in leadership left behind."

Putin seems to always be thinking light-years ahead of both US leadership, and NATO. This seems to be one of those moments when his outlook is nothing short of brilliant.

Blue State Blues: Senate Should Charge Nancy Pelosi with ‘Obstruction of Congress’

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is refusing to transmit the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump that the House of Representatives passed on Wednesday evening to the Senate for a trial.

She is, in the words of the articles, guilty of “obstruction of Congress.” And unlike President Trump, Speaker Pelosi has no constitutional basis whatsoever for refusing the request of one of the two houses that make up the legislative branch.

For weeks, Democrats have insisted that the president needed to be impeached and removed from office as soon as possible. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), in his House Intelligence Committee report, declared: “Given the proximate threat of further presidential attempts to solicit foreign interference in our next election, we cannot wait to make a referral until our efforts to obtain additional testimony and documents wind their way through the courts.”

The Hidden Military Use of 5G Technology

The possibilities offered by this new technology are explained by the Defense Applications of 5G Network Technology, published by the Defense Science Board, a federal committee which provides scientific advice for the Pentagon –

“The emergence of 5G technology, now commercially available, offers the Department of Defense the opportunity to take advantage, at minimal cost, of the benefits of this system for its own operational requirements”.

In other words, the 5G commercial network, built and activated by private companies, will be used by the US armed forces at a much lower expenditure than that necessary if the network were to be set up with an exclusively military goal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And of course, the other "dark side" of this technology is probably much more, and more intense surveillance against perfectly innocent people, who are doing absolutely nothing wrong.

Bolivia: A coup for Israel too

Shortly after left-wing Bolivian President Evo Morales was ousted in a US-supported coup in November - disguised as a noble reaction to alleged electoral fraud - the self-appointed, fanatically right-wing Bolivian “interim” government announced the renewal of diplomatic relations with Israel.

These had been severed by Morales in 2009 during Israel’s Operation Cast Lead in the Gaza Strip, which killed some 1,400 Palestinians, including more than 300 children. Though Israel naturally cast itself as the singular victim of the affair, the ratio of Palestinian civilian to Israeli civilian deaths was 400:1.

During a subsequent Israeli-inflicted bloodbath in Gaza in 2014, this one by the name of Operation Protective Edge and entailing the slaughter of 2,251 Palestinians (including 299 women and 551 children), Morales denounced Israel as a “terrorist state” - a perfectly accurate assessment, given the circumstances and Israel’s track record.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg Suggests Senators Can be Disqualified from Upcoming Impeachment Trial if they are Not Impartial

During her questioning Justice Ginsburg suggested that US Senators could be disqualified from the proceedings if they are not impartial.

Justice Ginsburg: “The House indicts, and the Senate tries. Should a trier be impartial? Of course, that’s the job of an impartial judge.”

Allahpundit wrote at HotAir about Ginsburg’s careless comments.

If Schumer or Pelosi (or whoever might have standing) sues McConnell and Graham, arguing that they’ve disqualified themselves from the trial, presumably SCOTUS could choose to hear that appeal. Could Ginsburg take part in that case now, having already stated her opinion that senators have a duty to be impartial as the triers of fact in impeachment? “I would not be surprised if some members of the Senate quoted RBG’s remarks to criticize their colleagues neutrality,” Blackman noted at one point in today’s post. Indeed. Ginsburg is now a player in this dispute, inadvertently or not, not just a potential adjudicator. Way to go.

In the spirit of self-criticism, I'd say my best call on the economy was an early spot of the huge demographic shift that kicked off in earnest in 2012, an abiding assertion that China's elevated growth rates could not be sustained, and anticipation of a financial crisis that turned up in 2015-16. Chemical Weapons Watchdog Is Just an American Lap Dog

A spate of leaks from within the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the international inspectorate created for the purpose of implementing the Chemical Weapons Convention, has raised serious questions about the institution’s integrity, objectivity and credibility. The leaks address issues pertaining to the OPCW investigation into allegations that the Syrian government used chemical weapons to attack civilians in the Damascus suburb of Douma on April 7, 2018. These allegations, which originated from such anti-Assad organizations as the Syrian Civil Defense (the so-called White Helmets) and the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), were immediately embraced as credible by the OPCW, and were used by the United States, France and the United Kingdom to justify punitive military strikes against facilities inside Syria assessed by these nations as having been involved in chemical weapons-related activities before the OPCW initiated any on-site investigation.

So you live in an oligarchy.

A word usually associated with deranged Russian oil tycoons is suddenly front and center in many American’s minds thanks to a new study by researchers at Princeton and Northwestern. It has a mortality rate of close to 100 percent, and once it hits an area even the pigs that are able to survive the disease are killed off in order to prevent it from spreading elsewhere. Unfortunately, African Swine Fever just continues to pop up in more locations. As you will see below, it is now sweeping through the heavily-populated nation of Indonesia.

Nearly 270 million people live in Indonesia, and they are heavily dependent on pork as a source of protein. But of course the same thing could be said about almost all of the countries where African Swine Fever is currently raging.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have heard not a word on this from our corporate media at all; but looking at the numbers, this is a huge problem, and very much apt to get worse.

Her Name Is Tessa Majors: White 18-Year-Old Female College Student Murdered in "Robbery Gone Wrong" in New York City By 3 Black Teenagers

What are the elites in New York City trying to cover up? They’ve already dubbed it a “robbery gone wrong.”

We know the three teens involved in the murder of Tessa Majors (a white female attending Barnard College) were black. Why? Because the corporate media in the world’s most important city have done everything possible to keep this story quiet and from truly exploding into an orgy of racial sensationalism.

“Thou shall not promote black-on-white murders” is one of the main commandments the Society of Professional Journalists dictates as gospel.

"Their Obsession With Weapons Is Crazy" - Gorbachev Warns US Is Bent On "Absolute Military Supremacy"

Authored by David Brennan via Newsweek.com,

Former Soviet premier Mikhail Gorbachev has urged President Donald Trump's administration to re-engage with Russia on landmark arms control treaties, warning that the collapse of Cold War-era nuclear weapon limits threatens global catastrophe.

Russia has also since suspended participation in the INF Treaty, prompting concerns of a new arms race. The infographic below, provided by Statista, shows the estimated global nuclear weapons arsenals as of December 2017.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Gorbachev is entirely correct in his assessment here; but I think the real reason President Trump wanted out of this most recent walkaway, was understanding just how far ahead Russia and China are ahead of us, in terms of advanced weaponry.

Earth's Magnetic North Pole Is Moving Faster Than Ever, Leaving Scientists Baffled

Earth’s magnetic north pole is moving at unprecedented speeds and scientists are still unsure of why this is the case.

What makes these recent changes so interesting is the sheer speed at which they are occurring.

Some fear that the rapid movement of the magnetic north pole could cause problems for Global Positioning Systems (GPS), military operations, airliners, and other navigation systems that rely on pinpointing where precisely the pole is located.

Migratory animals such as birds, butterflies, and whales also use the magnetic field for directions.

The latest report from NOAA, the “World Magnetic Model” for 2020, shows the pole rapidly speeding in the direction of Siberia. However, the trajectory of the pole will likely change.

"You Should Not Get Closer To Our Borders" - Russia Deploys Hypersonic Missile Fighters To Arctic

Russia has deployed hypersonic missile fighters along the Arctic and Pacific coasts to protect its maritime borders, reported Izvestia.

Mikoyan MiG-31 supersonic interceptor jets have been outfitted with the Kh-47M2 Kinzhal ("Dagger"), a nuclear-capable air-launched ballistic missile, and deployed to the Kola Peninsula and Kamchatka regions of the country, a powerful move that will send shockwaves through Washington as Russia is now prepared to take control of the Arctic.

The air-launched hypersonic missile is one of the most advanced weapons in the world, even sophisticated air defense systems have difficulty defending against its Mach 10 to Mach 12 speed.

With the deployment of the hypersonic missile fighters, one fleet in the Arctic and another in the Pacific, Russia will be able to deploy a rapid response countermeasure or even defensive maneuver across the Arctic and the North Pacific.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would politely suggest that, until the US has weaponry which can exceed what this fighter can do, that this country's leadership NOT try something stupid with either Russia, or nations it has (Syria) or may (Iran) well defend in the near term.

'It feels like a corner has been turned': Tax expert sacked over transgender tweet hails 'astonishing' support from JK Rowling as more celebrities including Sharon Davies and Duncan Bannatyne back her

The tax expert sacked after tweeting 'men cannot become women' has thanked JK Rowling and others who have backed her, including Sharon Davies and Duncan Bannatyne.

The Central London Employment Tribunal upheld the dismissal of Maya Forstater, 45, after she shared her views on reforms to Gender Recognition Certificates, with Judge James Tayler describing her beliefs as 'not worthy of respect in a democratic society'.

Harry Potter author Mrs Rowling, 54, voiced her support for Miss Forstater, amplifying the already significant debate around the validity of her views and her dismissal from the Centre for Global Development think tank.

Miss Forstater today posted an update on her Crowd Justice page, which has £93,000 pledged to it, up from £83,000 yesterday, saying the '50,000' who tweeted in support of her had highlighted how important this issue is.

Belgium’s army is forced to use drivers no taller than 5ft 7in for its armoured vehicles after refit reduced the size of the interior (and the typical Belgian is 5ft 10in!)

An expensive upgrade to a fleet of armoured vehicles in Belgium will disqualify most soldiers from using it because the modifications have drastically reduced the size of the interior.

With some of the tallest people in the world, an average Belgian man measures 5ft 10in but the internal cabin will hold no one above 5ft 7in.

In a drive to improve safety of their fleet of 44 Pandur armoured cars, the Belgian military spent £26 million but made them too small.

Pardon Assange and Snowden

The Washington Post has just released a trove of previously secret records documenting that the U.S. war in Afghanistan has been based on a multitude of lies and deception. It is beyond dispute that the Pentagon and other elements of America’s deep state were determined to keep those records secret from the American people. That’s because it took three years and two federal lawsuits to force deep-state officials to finally release the records.

No one is accusing the Post of publishing lies. It is undisputed that what the Post has published is the truth.

Why then did the deep state oppose release of the records? Why was the deep state so insistent that they be kept secret?

The answer is: Because the deep state knew that the records recounted the truth, and the last thing the deep state wanted was for the American people to know the truth about its war in Afghanistan — that “Operation Enduring Freedom” was built on lies, just like the Vietnam War was.

The FBI's Systematic Dishonesty

Former FBI Director James Comey initially portrayed last week's damning report on the bureau's investigation of alleged links between the Trump campaign and Russia as a vindication. This week Comey admitted that Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz discovered "real sloppiness," which is "concerning."

That characterization does not begin to cover the problems described by Horowitz, which yesterday prompted a highly unusual public rebuke from the court that reviews secret warrant applications under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA). The FISA court called the FBI's conduct "antithetical to the heightened duty of candor" that applies in such cases.

British Academic Wants To Ban The Insults "Nerd" And "Geek" As Hate Crimes .........no, this is not The Onion or Babylon Bee!

Authored by Paul Joseph Watson via Summit News,

An academic in the UK says that the insults “geek” and “nerd” should be criminalized as hate crimes because they cause distress to people with high IQs.

Psychology lecturer and psychotherapist Dr Sonja Falck says that “anti-IQ” insults are hate crime’s last “taboo” and that they should be legally treated the same way as homophobic and racist slurs.

During her research, Falck says that people being called “nerd” or “egghead” or “brainiac” contributed to them “being set apart as being different to others and feeling like they’re a misfit and they don’t belong.”

So in other words, these individuals developed high IQs partly as a result of being taunted as “nerds,” suggesting the insults actually helped them in life.

Surveillance video of Jeffrey Epstein's suicide attempt found, prosecutor says

Surveillance footage of Jeffrey Epstein's first apparent suicide attempt in July — which happened when he was sharing a cell with a former police officer facing charges for quadruple homicide — has been found, according to officials.

The government confirmed with staff at the Metropolitan Correctional Center that it was in process of obtaining a copy, according to a Thursday letter to a federal judge from Geoffrey Berman, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York.

SYRIAN ARMY LAUNCHED LARGE-SCALE ADVANCE IN IDLIB, SU-57 JETS DEPLOYED, WAR REPORT

Russia’s Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jets have successfully passed a second stage of testing in Syria, the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov revealed. During the second stage of testing in Syria, the Su-57s completed all the planned tasks. No further details were provided. In February 2018, two Su-57 fighter jets were temporarily deployed in Syria, where they passed combat tests. The second stage of the testing likely took place in 2019.

Meanwhile, the Russian Navy and the Syrian Armed Forces have held joint naval and coastal defense drills in the eastern Mediterranean. The drills involved the Russian Naval group deployed in the region, aircraft from the Hmeimim airbase and forces of the Syrian Navy and Coast Guard. The sides practiced fighting unmanned aerial vehicles, illegal armed groups, as well as working on localization and elimination of consequences of attacks on the port of Tartus.

Is Impeachment Backfiring on Democrats?

“We’re gonna impeach the (expletive deleted).”

Thus did the member from Michigan, Rashida Tlaib, declare last January to be the goal of the 2019 House Democratic Caucus.

Wednesday night, Speaker Nancy Pelosi delivered the goods.

The House impeached President Donald Trump on a straight party-line vote. Not one Republican signed on to the most partisan impeachment in U.S. history.

Yet, as we head for trial in the Senate, Democrats seem to be having nervous second thoughts over what they have done.

House-Senate Impeachment Impasse Would Mean Trump Wasn't Impeached At All: Harvard Law Prof

While Nancy Pelosi threatens to withhold articles of impeachment passed Wednesday night by the House, Harvard Law Professor Noah Feldman says that President Trump isn't technically impeached until the House actually transmits the articles to the Senate.

Feldman, who testified in front of the House Judiciary Committee's impeachment proceedings earlier this month, argues in a Bloomberg Op-Ed that the framers' definition of impeachment "assumed that impeachment was a process, not just a House vote," and that "Strictly speaking, "impeachment" occurred – and occurs -- when the articles of impeachment are presented to the Senate for trial. And at that point, the Senate is obliged by the Constitution to hold a trial."

If the House does not communicate its impeachment to the Senate, it hasn’t actually impeached the president. If the articles are not transmitted, Trump could legitimately say that he wasn’t truly impeached at all.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I think that this would be the very first time that this has happened in American history.

But the incredible damage to the political process done by Pelosi, et all, will be with us for quite some time to come, and that will not be expunged quickly.

Sneer Campaign: 'Richard Jewell'

There's no post-credits scene at the end of director Clint Eastwood's Richard Jewell, a good-acting, bad-faith dramatization of the plight of a wrongfully accused security guard at the 1996 Olympic Games.

But if you stay put through all of them, patiently sheltering in place until minute 132, you'll strain your eyes to read this advisory: "The film is based on actual historical events. Dialogue and certain events and characters contained in the film were created for the purposes of dramatization." Jewell, a 33-year-old who'd been dismissed from jobs as a campus police officer and sheriff's deputy, discovered a bomb in Atlanta's Centennial Park. He was helping to evacuate the area when the device exploded, only to find himself publicly identified as the prime suspect. (Jewell was ultimately cleared of wrongdoing, after being put through the wringer of public scrutiny.)

Kalanick Set To Liquidate Entire Uber Stake After $2.5 Billion Dump

Uber's former chief executive Travis Kalanick has dumped 90% of his stock since the ride-hailing app's initial public offering in May. Most of the unloading came in the last two months, where Kalanick dumped $2.5 billion worth. The Financial Times says the "scale and pace of his share sales" has suggested that Kalanick is on track to liquidate his entire position in the coming weeks.

Kalanick has used the proceeds to fund a new project called CloudKitchens, a real estate development firm that leases space to restaurants serving food delivery apps. SEC filings show Kalanick sold $383m worth of Uber stock this week. His remaining position is now worth $250 million, expected to be dumped by as early as next week.

Since peaking in June, Uber shares have lost nearly 43% of its value, likely following Kalanick's lead as confidence in the company to make money is dim.

York students demand ban on violent JDL

Following last month’s attacks against anti-racist activists at Canada’s York University, students are demanding that two extremist groups be banned from campus: the Jewish Defense League of Canada, and Herut, a Canadian affiliate of a far-right Israeli party.

This comes after the Toronto university bowed to pressure from right-wing politicians and Israel lobby groups and suspended the privileges of both Herut and campus group Students Against Israeli Apartheid (SAIA).

SAIA members were attacked as they protested a 20 November event which brought Israeli soldiers to their campus. They were then smeared as anti-Semites by Herut and JDL Canada.

Instead of taking action against the anti-Palestinian groups and protecting its students against such attacks, York’s administration proposed a mediation process between Herut and SAIA.

Retailpocalypse - A Record 9,300 Stores Closed Across US In 2019

Authored by Jack Phillips via The Epoch Times,

A report found that more than 9,300 stores have closed or are closing across the United States in 2019, including locations operated by Payless, Gymboree, Fred’s, Walgreens, Family Dollar, and many more.

According to a report (pdf) by Coresight Research, which released its year-end report on the closing stores, 5,844 stores closed in 2018. In 2019, 9,302 stores were reported to have been shut down or were going to be shut down, which is a 59 percent increase over 2018.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I know that frequently, numbers like these, from heavily discounted retailers, are blamed on on-line shopping, but that is not the only cause for these closures; people just don't have any additional income to spend, period, end of discussion.

Only The Damage To America Is Real

Authored by Raul Ilargi Meijer via The Automatic Earth blog,

Lots of news outlets labeled yesterday’s House vote to impeach President Trump “historic”. It was. But what was historic about it was not that Donald Trump became the third president to be impeached. What was historic was the way it was done. That was a first.

Because it was not the House that impeached President Donald Trump, it was the Democratic Party. Which just happened to have the majority in the House. They appear to think that this is all that’s needed, which is a big mistake and an even bigger gamble. A gamble on the value and future of the US Constitution and the entire political system.

US Steel Shares Plunge, Dividend Slashed, Buybacks Halted, 1,500 Workers Cut Amid Deepening Manufacturing Recession

President Trump told a crowd of steelworkers in Illinois in July 2018 that "After years of shutdowns and cutbacks today the blast furnace here in Granite City is blazing bright, workers are back on the job and we are once again pouring new American steel into the spine of our country."

While US Steel's Granite City might be operational for the time being, the steel producer has just announced it will shut down a "significant portion" of its Great Lakes Works facility, slash its dividend, terminate 80% of its share buyback program, and layoff 1,500 workers.

Great Lakes Works is expected to halt operations by April 2020. The mill rolls slabs into sheets of steel and has been battered by the manufacturing recession and trade war. The facility laid off 200 workers earlier this year, with another 1,500 in the near term, reported 247 Wall Street.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And the lousy, butt-ugly reality of this situation is, these people have no where else to go to look for decently paying jobs, if there are any left.

And Mr. President, please; do not continue to tell the American people that the economy is doing well, when it is only doing well for people like yourself, who are flush with money and holdings, for whom the economy is doing well.

Is It Time to “Duck and Cover” in the Eastern Med?

How badly does Washington want NATO to survive? Bad enough to betray the Greeks again and to reignite the Cyprus killing fields, that’s how bad. News the US Congress is expected to approve a bill lifting an arms embargo on Cyprus, which has been in place since 1987, can mean only one thing.

According to the news from Washington, the embargo on arms sales will be lifted once Congress passes the National Defense Authorization Act for 2020. Once President Trump signs the bill, US exports to the Republic of Cyprus of “defense-related” materials will add guns to what has always been a volatile situation. Recent Turkey-Greece friction already signaled a rekindling of old war fires, and now the US comes out and flatly admits that the Republic of Cyprus needs to be part of the “Partnership for Peace” NATO program.

The US-NATO-Israel Sponsored Al Qaeda Insurgency in Syria. Who Was Behind the 2011 “Protest Movement”?

Almost nine years since the beginning of the war on Syria in March 2011, so-called “progressives” have supported the so-called “opposition”, which is largely made up of Al Qaeda affiliated mercenaries. A US-NATO led war of aggression is portrayed as a “civil war”.

President Bashar Al Assad is casually described as a dictator who is killing his own people. The millions of deaths resulting from US-NATO led wars are not an object of concern.

The anti-war movement died in the wake of the Iraq war (April 2003). Responsibility to Protect (R2P) and counterterrorism prevail.

The war on Syria started more than nine years ago in Daraa on the 17th of March 2011.

The following article first published in May 2011 examines the inception of the jihadist terrorist insurgency.

It recounts the events of March 17-18, 2011 in Daraa, a small border town with Jordan.
