ASSAD AGAINST NORTHERN SYRIA’S “DEMOCRATIC” OIL SMUGGLING BUSINESS

A relaxing, profitable and, quite frankly, secure job has turned into a nightmare. It is now dangerous, difficult, and simply stressful. And it is all due to the actions of the “cowardly Assad regime” and its Russian backers.

Indeed, this relates to being an oil trafficker in Northern Syria. In the past be it the ISIS oil fields, or those in the Syrian Democratic Forces-controlled areas, “exporting” oil to Turkey was an easy and simple business. This has all changed.

On March 14th, a large-scale strike with missiles and heavy rockets hit oil traffickers in the Turkish-occupied areas. The were two targets. The first was the al-Himran crossing, which is located near the town of Jarabulus on the border with Turkey. The second was the village of Tarhin north of the town of al-Bab, featuring a network of makeshift refineries and oil storage facilites. Videos and photographs showed an apocalyptic sight, with massive fires and nothing but destruction.

US occupation forces loot a new quantity of wheat from Tal Alou silos

The US occupation forces continued to steal Syrian wheat crops from al-Jazeera area as part of their ongoing aggression against the Syrians.

The US occupation on Tuesday brought out 12 trucks loaded with wheat from silos of Tal Alou village in the town of Yarubiyah in Hasaka eastern countryside.

Local sources told SANA that a convoy consisting of 21 trucks loaded with wheat left the silos of Tal Alo at 2:15 p.m. and headed for illegal al-Waleed crossing.

Israel Has Been Attacking Iranian Ships Carrying Oil to Syria With Divers and Mines

Israel has ta rgeted at least a dozen vessels bound for Syria and mostly carrying Iranian oil out of concern that petroleum profits are funding extremism in the Middle East, U.S. and regional officials say, in a new front in the conflict between Israel and Iran.

Since late 2019, Israel has used weaponry including water mines to strike Iranian vessels or those carrying Iranian cargo as they navigate toward Syria in the Red Sea and in other areas of the region. Iran has continued its oil trade with Syria, shipping millions of barrels and contravening U.S. sanctions against Iran and international sanctions against Syria.

Some of the naval attacks also have targeted Iranian efforts to move other cargo including weaponry through the region, according to U.S. officials.

The attacks on the tankers carrying Iranian oil haven’t been previously disclosed. Iranian officials have reported some of the attacks earlier and have said they suspect Israeli involvement.

The Power to Make War

Congress needs to prohibit absolutely the unauthorized presidential expenditure of money and deployment of armed personnel on any nondefensive violent actions. I say “personnel” rather than “military” because modern presidents have often used the CIA to fight wars and argued that because those wars did not involve the military, no congressional approval or notification was needed. -- Congress should criminalize such presidential violence and the expenditures of resources to support it, as it is a crime to kill without lawful authority. And Congress should call nondefensive killings — by the government or anyone — by their legal name: Murder.

U.S. AIRCRAFT CARRIER DEPLOYS IN MEDITERRANEAN AS DAMASCUS PREPARES TO PUSH ON THE NORTHWEST

The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower aircraft carrier and its Carrier Strike Group have entered the Mediterranean Sea.

This makes it, currently, the closest aircraft carrier to the Middle East. It has been quite a while since the US hasn’t had one of its super warships deployed in or near the Persian Gulf.

Starting in the spring of 2019, the U.S. Navy has been publicly ordered to keep a near-constant presence in the region, as if this were something new.

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced that a global posture review is taking place, and it would be reconsidered whether a carrier was even needed in the region. Still, the Mediterranean Sea is quite nearby, and the removal of the Carrier Strike Group (CSG) from the Persian Gulf was a political move.

It’s Lloyd Austin’s dream to have a CSG in every hotspot in the world, but resources don’t allow for that.

Russia Obliterates Oil Storage Facilities in Syria Used for Oil Stolen by US, Israel & Turkey

The Syrian Arab Army and Russian forces inside that country, fired Tochka Ballistic missiles at Oil Storage Tank Facilities being occupied by and used by the United States, Turkey and Israel, inside Syria. Giant explosions levelled most of the storage tank farms, rendering it impossible for the US, Turkey or Israel to continue STEALING Syrian Oil; something that has been going on for years while the US was allegedly "fighting ISIS."

Video from the attacks as they began, is slowly filtering out of Syria. In the short video clip below, after the first missile blew up some storage tanks, a second missile hits with spectacular effect, lighting the night sky for miles as the oil blew up:

20 Turkish UAVs attack one Russian Pantsir-C1 in Syria's Idlib

According to the publication, as many as 20 Turkish attack drones at a time took part in the attack against the air defense missile system. They fired several dozens of missiles at the Pantsir-C1 system deployed in the Syrian province of Idlib, but failed to destroy it.

One of the shells exploded near the air defense missile system and slightly damaged it, but the Russian military could soon repair the system.

Turkish military expert Enes Kai, who was quoted by Soha, said that the Syrians made a number of mistakes in repelling the attack.

According to him, Pantsir operators could have destroyed the Turkish drones before they approached the distance, from which they were able to launch missiles at Syrian targets.

It was not specified when exactly the Turkish military carried out the attack on the positions of the Syrian army.

HAS DAMASCUS’ TIME TO RECAPTURE NORTHERN SYRIA FINALLY ARRIVED?

Chaos is brewing in the Aleppo countryside, as the Syrian Arab Army reportedly prepares for a decisive push on the Turkish-occupied areas.

All eyes are set on the town of Al-Bab and the surrounding area.

On March 7th, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) shelled the outskirts of the Turkish-occupied town of al-Bab. According to sources from the “moderate opposition”, at least ten mortar rounds fired by the SAA landed in the towns of Bratah and al-Dana near al-Bab.

There was one reported casualty, and one injury. The previous day saw shelling from the SAA on the same location, without any casualties and damage being reported.

These developments followed the incident on March 5 when, the Syrian military used ballistic missiles and rockets to pound Turkish-affiliated smugglers in the areas of al-Himran and Tarhin. According to reports, over 40 criminals were injured and more than 200 oil trucks and storage facilities were destroyed.

Tulsi Gabbard calls out the US dirty war on Syria

Watch Biden and some of his most senior aides admitting to the horrific realities of the US dirty war on Syria

While Joe Biden has faced some mild Congressional pushback for bombing the Iraq-Syria border, Tulsi Gabbard says her former colleagues are ignoring the larger issue: the ongoing US dirty war on Syria. After a decade of proxy warfare that empowered Al Qaeda and ISIS, the US is now occupying one-third of Syria and imposing crippling sanctions that are crushing Syria's economy and preventing reconstruction.

Putin & Assad's Revenge: Ballistic Missiles Pummel "Stolen" Syrian Oil Convoy & Refinery

Multiple major missile strikes reportedly on a convoy of oil tanker trucks and a refinery in northern Syria lit up the night sky on Friday. Initially there was confusion as to who was behind the devastating attack which obliterated multiple dozens of oil tanker trucks.

Stunning video of massive fireballs near the towns of al-Bab and Jarablus, close to the Turkish border, circulated widely on social media with contradictory accounts of just who launched the attack. However, sources seem to be in agreement that the initial explosions were so large it had to be the result of ballistic missile strikes.

This led to accusations that either the Russian military or the Syrian government was behind it in retaliation to halt convoys of "stolen oil" taken from Syrian national territory.

Damascus and Russia have long condemned a Turkish "land grab" along the northern border, as well as US occupation of the country's oil and gas rich northeast Deir Ezzor and al-Hasakah regions.

Continued Israeli airstrikes on Syria are testing Moscow’s patience, Jerusalem would do well not to poke the Russian bear

How Russia responds to Israel's attacks on Iranian targets inside Syria could make all the difference as to whether the region boils over into full-scale war or continues to simmer at its current, already dangerous, level.

In an official statement last week, the special envoy of the president of Russia to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, indicated that Moscow was rapidly losing patience with Israel over airstrikes against alleged Iranian targets on Syria soil. “Sooner or later, the cup of patience, including the Syrian government, may be overflowing, and a retaliatory strike will follow, which will accordingly lead to a new round of tension. These attacks must be stopped, they are counterproductive. We hope that the Israeli side will hear our concerns, including concerns about the possible escalation of violence in Syria.”

Democrats criticize Biden’s decision to launch airstrikes in Syria without consulting Congress

Some Senate Democrats on Friday criticized President Joe Biden’s decision to launch an airstrike Thursday night in Syria without conferring with all of Congress.

The Pentagon briefed congressional leadership before the action, according to a National Security Council spokesman. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s staff was notified before the strike, according to a Democratic aide.

Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., on Friday requested a briefing from the Biden administration on the decision-making behind the airstrikes.

“The American people deserve to hear the Administration’s rationale for these strikes and its legal justification for acting without coming to Congress. Offensive military action without congressional approval is not constitutional absent extraordinary circumstances,” a statement from Kaine’s office read. Kaine is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee.

Iran condemns U.S. strikes in Syria, denies attacks in Iraq

Iran on Saturday condemned U.S. air strikes against Iran-backed militias in Syria, and denied responsibility for rocket attacks on U.S. targets in Iraq that prompted Friday’s strikes.

Washington said its strikes on positions of the Iran-backed Kataib Hezbollah paramilitary group along the Iraq border were in response to the rocket attacks on U.S. targets in Iraq.

Western officials and some Iraqi officials have blamed those attacks on Iran-backed groups.

However, Tehran has denied any involvement.

Illegal US bases train terrorists in Syria: Iran Foreign Ministry

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman has condemned recent attacks on areas east of Syria by US troops, saying the illegal bases run by American forces in the country are used to train terrorists for later use against the government in Damascus.

“Illegal American bases on the Syrian soil are training terrorists and using them as a means [against the Damascus government],” Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Sunday.

Recent military activities under the new US administration blatantly violate Syria’s territorial integrity and international law, which would intensify clashes and fuel instability in the region, the Iranian official said.

“These attacks, which were in the continuation of the Zionist regime’s constant acts of aggression against the Syrian territory, have been carried out after American forces illegally entered Syria over the past few years and occupied parts of its soil and plundered its natural resources, including oil, which is an absolute right of the Syrian people.”

Syria intercepts Israeli missiles over Damascus: State media

Syrian air defences intercepted Israeli missiles over Damascus on Sunday, Syrian state news agency SANA said.

Since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, Israel has routinely carried out raids in Syria, mostly targeting Iranian and Lebanese Hezbollah forces as well as government troops.

"At 10:16 this evening (2016 GMT) the Israeli enemy carried out an aerial attack from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan on some targets in the Damascus area," SANA reported a military source as saying.

"Our air defence confronted the missiles and downed most of them," the source added.

There was no immediate report of casualties.

Healing bombs? CNN’s love affair with airstrikes continues, as network gushes over Biden attack on Syria

Joe Biden’s Syrian airstrikes were hailed by CNN as a masterstroke of diplomacy, delivered with “a scalpel instead of a sledgehammer.” Strangely enough, it sang the same song when Donald Trump launched his own strikes.

Delivered on Thursday by two F-15 fighter jets, Biden’s airstrikes knocked out several facilities the Pentagon says were used by Iranian-backed militias in Syria. The Pentagon described the strikes as “defensive” in nature, and as a response to rocket attacks on US and coalition troops in Iraq. A militia spokesman said one fighter was killed and several wounded.

Tara Reade: As the American hawk bombs overseas, the rot of corruption and bigotry plucks at its underbelly at home

The Biden administration’s decision to bomb Syria is not surprising, nor is the complete reversal of media tone compared to when Trump did it. It’s all a reflection of the bigotry eating away at the country from the inside.

From my time as a volunteer at a raptor rescue, I know doves and pigeons sometimes manage to fight back against hawks. When it happens the dove usually makes little cuts in the hawk’s underbelly, only visible if the bird is turned over. But eventually, the hawk spirals to the ground, dead.

If you have ever done any falconry, then you know the power in the bird’s grip. In fact, special gloves are required to withstand the claws of hawks or falcons, as they could cut you to the bone just by squeezing.

I imagine both allies and foes wish they had these special gloves while doing diplomacy with America.

I believe America, like that hawk, has little cuts of greed and corruption slicing away at any semblance of Democracy. And it is in a spiral.

Biden's Syria strike unmasks US' two-faced policy, promises no fundamental change

Syria is a sovereign country, said at least one current member of Joe Biden's administration when former US President Donald Trump authorized attacks against Syria in 2017, a country that has neither attacked the United States’ territory nor its regional positions.

The remarks, made in a tweet on April 7, 2017, were those of Jen Psaki, who currently serves as the White House press secretary.

“Also what is the legal authority for strikes?” Psaki asked in that tweet, which came after the US launched a barrage of 59 Tomahawk missiles against Syria for a suspected chemical attack on the town of Khan Shaykhun in Syria’s Idlib Province, which Washington blamed on Damascus.

Biden Bombs Syria: A New World Record?

Biden coming out of the gate with bombs blazing should be of little surprise to those who have watched his early foreign policy appointments. Israel said very pleased with US strikes in Syria: ‘Biden is not Obama’

Israel is highly pleased with Thursday night’s US airstrikes against an Iranian-backed militia base on the Syrian-Iraqi border, Israeli officials told Walla News Friday.

Officials told Walla they see the strikes as a positive signal about the new administration’s posture toward Iran, and believe it will send a message to Tehran that it must restrain itself and its proxies in the region.
They said they had been concerned by growing Iranian provocations in the region, often through its proxies, and had shared this concern with the Americans.

“WHERE THE F**K ARE THE CHECKS? THEY WENT TO RAYTHEON SO THEY CAN BOMB MY COUNTRY”

British-Syrian journalist Richard Medhurst responded to Joe Biden’s missile strike on Syria by demanding to know, “Where the f**k are the checks? They went to Raytheon so they can bomb my country.”

Biden ordered the attack yesterday, claiming it targeted Iranian-backed militias in eastern Syria while the Pentagon spun the move as a “defensive precision strike.”

Many observers pointed to the bombing as yet another sign that despite the administration’s obsession with flaunting its “diversity” and supposedly progressive virtues, the military-industrial complex is still in control.

“People that are starving who can’t pay their rent, you’ve got millions of Americans that are uninsured, they got no health care, they lost their jobs, where the fuck are the checks? Oh I know, they went to Raytheon so they can bomb my country,” said Medhurst.

Iraqi Government Denies Involvement in US Airstrikes in Syria

Iraq’s government denied any involvement in Thursday’s US airstrikes in eastern Syria that targeted Iraqi militias. US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said Iraq helped develop intelligence for the bombing, but Iraq’s Ministry of Defense denied that claim.

In a statement, Iraq’s Ministry of Defense said it was “surprised by the statements of the US Secretary of Defense about the participation of Iraqi intelligence regarding an exchange of intelligence information with Iraq to target Syrian territories.”

The Pentagon said it targeted Kataib Hezbollah and Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada in Thursday’s bombing, two Shia militias that fall under the umbrella of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF). The PMF was formed in 2014 to fight ISIS and is sponsored by the Iraqi government, so it would make no sense for Baghdad to collaborate with the US in targeting them.

Russia says U.S. gave only a few minutes’ warning before strike in Syria

Russia was given about four to five minutes warning of the Biden administration’s first military action when it struck Iranian-backed militias in eastern Syria early Friday, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. But he said the warning came too late to reduce the risk of a potential clash between the two country’s forces.

U.S. officials believe the attack killed a number of alleged Iranian-linked fighters, signaling the administration’s intent to use targeted military action to push back against violence tied to Tehran.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported Friday that 22 Iranian-backed fighters were killed when the strike at 1 a.m. local time Friday (6 p.m. Thursday in Washington) hit three truckloads of weapons crossing a border point from Iraq to Syria. It added that the death toll could rise.

China Mocks Biden Syria Bombing: ‘America Is Back’

China’s state-run Global Times newspaper mocked President Joe Biden on Friday, quoting his declaration, “America is back,” in a headline about his decision to bomb Syria on Thursday evening.

Biden made the remark in a speech about foreign policy in early February, in which he vowed to limit American military engagement.

“And they know when you speak, you speak for me,” Biden told diplomats at the State Department. “And so — so is the message I want the world to hear today: America is back. America is back. Diplomacy is back at the center of our foreign policy.”

On Thursday, 36 days into his presidency, Biden took unilateral action in Syria, ordering what the Pentagon dubbed a “defensive precision strike” on members of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), a legal wing of the Iraqi armed forces.

Lavrov: Russia Has Information that US Plans to Stay in Syria Forever, Destroy the Country

During its first month in office, the Biden administration did not reverse its predecessor's policy of keeping troops deployed in northeastern Syria to "keep the oil". On Thursday, the White House approved airstrikes against the bases of Baghdad-allied Iraqi militia groups in eastern Syria following attacks on US and coalition forces in Iraq.

Moscow has evidence of US plans to keep forces deployed in Syria indefinitely, and will ask Washington about this directly, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said.

"We have recently received different information from various sources. We cannot confirm it for now, and want to ask the Americans about this directly. Supposedly, they are making the decision to never leave Syria, even to the point of destroying this country," Lavrov said, speaking to reporters at a press conference alongside Afghani Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar on Friday.

Wage war: Biden blasted for picking a fight in Syria, letting minimum wage slide at home

Progressives are feeling shafted by Joe Biden, after the president shied away from fighting the Senate for a minimum wage hike, but launched missiles at Syria.

The Democrats’ proposed $15 national minimum wage increase cannot be included in President Biden's $1.9 trillion Covid-19 stimulus bill, Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough ruled on Thursday. MacDonough, a Democrat who serves as a referee of sorts in the upper house, declared that the bill does not fall under budget rules, and as such cannot be passed with a simple majority, unlike the rest of the stimulus package.

Caitlin Johnstone: US bombs Syria and ridiculously claims self defense

On orders of President Biden, the United States has launched an airstrike on a facility in Syria. As of this writing the exact number of killed and injured is unknown, with early reports claiming “a handful” of people were killed.

One martyred, four wounded as US attacks anti-terror forces on Iraq-Syria border: Press TV

One person has lost his life and four others have been wounded in the US military’s air raid against positions of resistance forces operating against terror groups on the Iraqi-Syrian border, an informed source tells Press TV.

The casualties were caused in the early hours of Friday, as the American airstrike targeted facilities used by forces of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) — better known as Hashd al-Sha’abi — at a border point in eastern Syria, where the resistance group has been fighting remnants of the Takfiri Daesh terror group in coordination with the governments in both Arab countries.

In a statement issued after the assault, Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the raid had been “deliberate” and meant to “de-escalate the overall situation in both eastern Syria and Iraq.”

Biden and Jen Psaki are accused of hypocrisy after old tweets slamming Trump's Middle East air strikes resurface following Syria bombing raid that 'killed 22'

Joe Biden and his press chief have been accused of hypocrisy after old tweets slamming the Trump administration's Middle East air strikes resurfaced following last night's bombing raid on Syria.

The US dropped seven 500-pound precision-guided bombs in a Biden-directed bombardment that reportedly killed 22 Iran-backed militants smuggling weapons at a border crossing with Iraq.

That ferocity of the attack has drawn accusations of double standards because Biden previously referred to Donald Trump as 'erratic' and 'impulsive' for threatening to bomb Iran, while press secretary Jen Psaki questioned the legality of attacking Syria.

Biden Re-Starts Obama’s War in Syria

Well, now we know why congressional Democrats want China Joe to relinquish control of the nuclear codes. – Four years of peace was just too much for Democrat voters and our corrupt news media to stand, so they did everything they could to ensure that life-long warmonger China Joe Biden was installed into the presidency. Last night, the fruits of their votes and constant propaganda operation against peacemaker Donald J. Coalition Plans To Expand Giant ISIS Prison In Syria

The U.S.-led anti-ISIS coalition is funding a dramatic expansion of a large detention facility in northeastern Syria, a move that may reduce the chance of breakouts but which signals that no better way is in sight to deal with captured foreign and local militants.

The effort will double in size the current facility at Hasakah, a series of three converted school buildings that holds roughly 5,000 prisoners, according to British Army Maj. Gen. Kevin Copsey, the coalition’s deputy commander for strategy.

The makeshift prisons are operated by America’s Kurdish partners, the coalition-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, or SDF. The international coalition has over the years offered funding and support to harden their security. A British Ministry of Defense spokesperson confirmed that the U.K. is funding the Hasakah effort, which Copsey called “quite a significant expansion.” Once completed, the now-crowded and crumbling facility will meet Red Cross standards, Copsey said.

Russia Says Jihadists Are Planning "Simulated" Chemical Attack In Idlib To Get Biden's Attention

In what feels like a throwback scenario to 2017 which marked the first time Trump bombed Syria over al-Qaeda's unverified claims of a government chemical attack on a "rebel"-held town in Idlib province, Russia's military is now warning that anti-Assad jihadists are planning a new "false-flag operation against civilians" involving chemical weapons in Idlib.

The allegation of a major 'provocation' in the works originated in official comments days ago from the deputy chief of the Russian de-escalation mission in Syria, Rear Admiral Vyacheslav Sytnik. The statements are being featured predominantly in Russian and Iranian state media sources, which say the incident will be blamed on Damascus, ultimately in order to gain the attention of the newly in office Biden administration.

The Greater Danger of Israeli Provocations in Syria

Continued airstrikes carried out by Israeli warplanes in Syria presents – at face value – an obvious and persistent threat to Syria. In a wider context, the threat runs much deeper and extends to Syria’s allies in Tehran.

Israel has been an eager participant in the US-led proxy war on Syria beginning in 2011. It has provided safe-haven and support for Western-backed militants along and within its borders. It has also at various junctures carried out airstrikes in Syria in a bid to impede Damascus’ ability to reestablish peace and stability within Syria’s borders.

And according to US policy papers written before and after the beginning of the 2011 proxy war against Syria – Washington had long ago slated Israel a role in undermining and aiding in the overthrow of the Syrian government – and admittedly as part of a wider strategy to isolate and eventually target Iran.

Video: ISIS-Daesh is Returning To Syria, The “Moderate Opposition” is Fighting against the Syrian Government

The further the world comes into 2021, the more it begins to resemble 2014, at least in Syria, mixed in with a bit of 2015. ISIS is returning, the US is bracing to “fight it”. The “moderate opposition” is living its renaissance fighting against the Syrian Government and its Russian support.

The 2015 bit is the fact that Russia is present, and its activity has greatly increased in the first weeks of February.

In the ten days leading up to February 14th, Russia reportedly carried out more than 700 airstrikes on ISIS cells in Central Syria. This is an impressive number, but the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights claimed that as a result only 33 ISIS terrorists had been killed. According to the same report, the Syrian Arab Army had more significant losses – 56, but it is being targeted by almost every “moderate” and “radical” party on the battlefield.

Nine Non-Syrians Killed in Overnight Israeli Attack on Damascus

Following up on last night’s Israeli attack on Damascus, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed the incident Monday, saying it targeted arms depots, and killed at least nine pro-government forces, all identified as “non-Syrian,” though the Observatory was unsure where they were from.

The attack started after midnight, and lasted a half hour. Syrian state media reports that most of the Israeli missiles were intercepted. The Israeli government has refused to comment on the attack.

Rumors are that the slain were Afghan or Pakistani Shi’ite militia members, which is common for Israeli attacks. Israel only rarely targets Syrian troops, despite attacking Syrian territory several times per month.

Israeli media tends to spin these actions as attacks on Iran, because the targets are Shi’ites. Since Iran has relatively few people in Syria, they too are rarely directly targeted, and this is mostly just a question of spinning it.

Is Joe Biden Intent Upon Escalating the War against Syria?

Nearly 10 years after Obama/Biden launched aggression against nonbelligerent Syria threatening no one, Biden/Harris appear hellbent on escalating more of the same.

Last week during a Security Council session, Russian UN envoy Vassily Nebenzia highlighted the problem posed by what he called “pseudo-humanitarian organizations created by Western special services,” adding:

“Instead of pursuing their proclaimed noble goals, they are used for provocations and inciting conflicts.”

“The ‘White Helmets’ are a sad example of this.”

“They are closely linked to (US/NATO/Israeli supported) terrorists,” including ISIS, al-Qaeda and its al-Nusra and other regional offshoots.

“The(ir) financing…does not stop. Remarkably, after the defeat of ISIS in Syria, representatives of the ‘White Helmets’ were transferred to neighboring countries, with Western sponsors promising to take them along.”

Repeated Israeli acts of aggression on Syria won’t help to protect terrorists: Damascus

The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has censured the Israeli regime over its repeated attacks on the Arab country, saying such acts of aggression will not help to protect the terrorist groups, which are wreaking havoc on the nation with the support of Tel Aviv and its allies.

The ministry, in two identical letters addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and rotating President of the Security Council Barbara Woodward, said Israeli forces launched a barrage of missiles at 01:18 local time on Monday from the direction of the occupied side of Syria’s Golan Height and al-Khalil (Hebron) in the occupied West Bank on some targets near the Syrian capital, Damascus.

Israel will face ‘toughest response’ if it crosses red lines in Syria: Iranian diplomat

Iran’s presence in Syria is upon an official request from Damascus, says a senior advisor to the Iranian foreign minister, warning that Israel will face the ‘toughest response’ if it crosses red lines in the Arab country.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Russia's Sputnik news agency on Sunday, Ali Asghar Khaji said the Iranian forces’ “presence in Syria is aimed at combating Daesh and other terrorist groups, but if Israel wants to cross the 'red lines', it will face the toughest response, which will make it regret its actions."

The Iranian official reiterated that the Islamic Republic's military presence in Syria is upon a request from the Damascus government, adding that Tehran has not received any message demanding it to leave the Arab country.

Syrian air defenses thwart Israeli attack on Damascus

Syria's air defenses have neutralized the latest Israeli aggression against the western outskirts of Damascus.

The Syrian forces responded to the Israeli attacks in the skies over the capital, Damascus, for several hours early Monday, the Syrian official news agency SANA reported.

The report did not give details of the possible casualties or damages caused by the aggression.

Since the start of the foreign-backed war on Syria in 2011, Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes in the country, targeting government troops and their allies.

Israel will ‘regret’ its actions if it crosses ‘red lines’ in Syria, senior Iranian official warns

Continued Israeli “aggression” in Syria will be met with the “toughest” response, a senior Iranian diplomat told Sputnik news agency. Damascus had earlier accused the Israel Defense Forces of conducting airstrikes on Syrian soil.

Ali Asghar Khaji, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s senior aide for special political affairs, blasted Israel for its “aggressive and hostile” policies in Syria, in an interview published by Sputnik on Sunday.

“While the Syrian government is fighting terrorists, Israel supports them,” he said.

Our presence in Syria is aimed at combating ISIS [Islamic State] and other terrorist groups, but if Israel wants to cross the ‘red lines,’ it will face the toughest response, which will make them regret their actions.

Syrian State Media Confirms Israeli Attacks Near Damascus

Syrian state media is reporting a new round of Israeli airstrikes near the capital city of Damascus. Video footage showed explosions near the ground, and the media say that the air defense systems activated and contested the attack.

Details are still emerging, and Israel is as usual refusing to comment at all on the matter. Syria has yet to confirm any casualties or damage, though the explosions suggest at least some damage was done.

Also unclear is what the target of this latest attack was meant to be. Israel attacks Syria very often, and its not unusual for those attacks to target Damascus, and be nominally meant to hit some Shi’ite militia.

Israel Will Face 'Toughest Response' If It Crosses 'Red Lines' in Syria, Iran Warns

Over the past few years, Israel has reportedly carried out a number of airstrikes on Syria, which Tel Aviv says are aimed at countering the alleged Iranian military presence in the Arab republic. Damascus condemns such attacks as violations of Syria's national sovereignty.

Ali Asghar Khaji, a senior aide to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, has warned Israel against crossing "red lines" in Syria, in an apparent reference to the Jewish state's alleged ongoing air raids on Syrian soil.

The diplomat described "the nature of the Zionist entity" as "aggressive and hostile towards the region, the Palestinians, and neighboring countries".

"While the Syrian government is fighting terrorists, Israel supports them. Our presence in Syria is aimed at combating ISIS [Daesh*] and other terrorist groups, but if Israel wants to cross the 'red lines', it will face the toughest response, which will make them regret their actions", Khaji argued.

US establishing airport within oilfield in Syria’s Dayr al-Zawr province: Report

The United States is establishing an airport in its military base within an oilfield in Syria's eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr, a report says.

The Hajin Military Council in the province, affiliated to the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), announced the news, Arabic-language Kuwaiti daily newspaper Al-Anba reported on Friday.

According to the report, Washington is establishing the airport in the al-Omar oilfield base, which is one of the largest military bases of the US forces in the Arab country.

The development comes on the heel of the Pentagon announcement that a US firm is exploiting Syrian oil without authorization from Damascus, and that the US troops deployed to the Arab country do not "protect" its oil reserves from Daesh attacks as previously ordered by former US president Donald Trump.

US Shifts Official Justification Of Its Illegal Presence In Syria From "Guarding Oil" To "Fighting ISIS"

On February 9, the Pentagon announced that its forces in Syria are no longer responsible for the protection of the oil wells.

A Pentagon spokesman, John Kirby, said that the employees and contractors of the US Department of Defense are no longer allowed to assist any private company seeking to exploit the oil resources in Syria, nor to help the employees of this company or its agents.

Kirby added that the 900 personnel stationed in the region are there to support the mission of fighting ISIS only, which is the main reason for their presence.

The announcement of the US Department to shift the formal objectives of its military presence in Syria goes contrary to the position of the administration of former President Donald Trump. President Joe Biden announced that it would fix what Trump ‘sabotaged’ in the US policies.

An Unintended Syria Air Clash Could Pull Biden Into Conflict Involving Russia, Israel

The conflict in Syria has seen the convergence of multiple, sometimes opposing forces in the skies over a near-decade-long civil war that today threatens to draw the United States’ foreign policy resources back into the quagmire, one in which its closest ally, Israel, and a leading rival, Russia, are among those operating in dangerous proximity.

The sudden roar of jets and missile blasts have become an all too common feature of Syria’s ongoing war, and last week’s attacks across the country’s southwest served as an explosive reminder of the war’s lingering violence. The airstrikes, which were unclaimed but widely blamed on Israel, targeted positions near the Golan Heights and Damascus International Airport, where Israel has accused Iran-linked elements of storing and transporting weapons.

59 Vehicles in Two Convoys Reportedly Snuck Into Syria From Iraq Carrying Equipment for US Forces

The Biden administration promised to reverse course on much of Trump’s foreign policy, freezing troop withdrawals in Iraq and Afghanistan, while hinting US willingness to rejoin the Iran nuclear deal if Tehran returned to its commitments. In Syria, however, the new president appears to be continuing on the course set by his predecessor.

Two convoys numbering a total of 59 vehicles have made its way into Syria from two separate directions, the Syrian Arab News Agency has reported, citing local sources on the ground.

One of the convoys reportedly consisted of 45 vehicles, including refrigerators, tankers and trucks carrying military vehicles, and was said to have entered the country through the Semalka border crossing between Iraqi Kurdistan and the US-backed Kurdish-controlled region of northern Syria. Damascus considers the Semalka crossing illegal since it is outside the government's control.

U.N. urges 57 countries to reclaim women, children from Syrian camps

U.N. rights experts urged 57 states on Monday to repatriate nearly 10,000 of their citizens - women and children associated with Islamic State fighters - held in camps in northeast Syria in “sub-human” conditions without legal process.

Under international law, these states have a duty to repatriate their citizens and, if there is evidence, to prosecute adults for war crimes or other offences at fair trials in their domestic courts, the experts said.

Some 9,462 foreign women and children are among more than 64,600 people detained at al-Hol and Roj camps, run by Syrian Kurdish authorities, where the majority of residents are Iraqi and Syrian nationals.

Biden Appears To Be Expanding The US Occupation Of Syria

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, some 50 vehicles in a US military convoy crossed into Syria this weekend and headed for bases in the nation’s northeast Hasakeh Province.

Details aren’t clear on why the convoy arrived, beyond delivering equipment. The Observatory noted this is the ninth such convoy to enter Syria in 2021, meaning nearly two convoys per week are showing up.

While there has been no official announcement on a policy change, this speaks to the Biden Administration’s intentions in Syria, or at least intentions to not leave Syria.

The US has very limited troop presence left in Syria, and President Trump made much of the remnant just being there to loot oil. With reports of ISIS seeking a resurgence there, it seems the US may have found itself another war, or at least a continuation of the existing war.

Pentagon: US Troops Not Protecting Oil Fields in Syria

Attempting to distance itself from the previous administration’s policies, the Pentagon said on Monday that US forces occupying northeast Syria are not there to protect oil fields.

When President Trump decided to stay in Syria in 2019, he said it was to “secure” the oil. In 2020, a US energy company inked a deal with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to exploit the oil fields in the region.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said the estimated 900 US troops and contractors in northeast Syria are “are not authorized to provide assistance to any other private company, including its employees or agents, seeking to develop oil resources in Syria.”

Blinken: Control of Golan Heights Important for ‘Israel’s security’

In an interview on Monday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed President Biden’s Israel policy. When asked if the new administration will continue recognizing the Golan Heights as Israeli territory Blinken questioned the legality of the recognition, but still made it clear that he favored Israeli control of the territory.

“Look, leaving aside the legalities of that question, as a practical matter, the Golan is very important to Israel’s security,” Blinken said. He said as long as Syrian President Bashar al-Assad “in power” in Syria “as a practical matter, the control of the Golan in that situation I think remains of real importance to Israel’s security.”

Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria in 1967 and annexed the territory in 1981, a move that was not internationally recognized. In 2019, the Trump administration formally recognized the Golan Heights as Israeli territory.

Israel Attacks Southern Syria, Damages Military Post

Israel’s campaign of operations against Syria continued Wednesday night, when warplanes attacked a military base in Quineitra, damaging a site which some reports claimed was used by Iran as a storage facility.

Details are still emerging, but the Syrian state media reported that air defenses were activated during the Israeli attack. They added there was material damage to the site, but no casualties.

Israel has refused to comment on the matter, which is in keeping with a policy of not talking about attacks initially reported in foreign media. Attacks on nominally Iranian-linked targets, however, are extremely common for them.

LEBANON - BRITISH EMBASSY INFILTRATES MILITARY INTELLIGENCE, PROVIDES SNOOPING EQUIPMENT, INDOCTRINATES YOUNG PALESTINIANS

Keeping the Syrian border safe and secure is certainly not a British priority. Let’s not forget that it was Britain which hired various companies, led by 'former' British intelligence officers, who then organized and ran the propaganda campaigns for the Jihadi onslaught on Syria.

The same companies were hired to secretly create 'civil society’ groups in Lebanon that were then used to demonstrate for 'regime change’ and to pressure the Lebanese government. It was also Her Majesties Government which hired such intelligence cutouts to embed into and undermine Lebanon’s justice and security services.

Lebanon’s army was another target of British intelligence efforts to gain control over Lebanon’s policies.

US ‘Stealing, Plundering’ Syrian Oil: Mark Taliano

The United States has occupied certain parts of Syrian territory and is stealing and plundering the war-torn country’s national resources, says a political analyst.

Author and political analyst Mark Taliano told Press TV on Saturday that the US had never been invited, nor ever will be invited into Syria, and military American forces occupation and killing of the men, women and children in the country constituted a war crime.

The Canada-based analyst pointed out that the US military had absolutely no legitimacy and legal basis to justify its occupation of Syrian territory.

Taliano pointed out the US forces were “not guarding the oil. They are stealing the oil, looting, plundering. These are war crimes.”

He said that even the al-Qaeda and Daesh were both creations of the US government to push ahead with its imperialistic agenda.

The second month of 2021 began with preparations by Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) for new round of hostilities.

Kata’ib Hezbollah is a key member of the PMU, actively participates in the fight against ISIS since the emergence of the group in Iraq, and is a vocal supporter of the current attempts to oust the US presence from Iraq.

At the same time, the PMU are subject to more and more frequent ISIS attacks in recent days. As the terrorists appear to be popping up all around. On January 31st, the PMU said they repelled an ISIS attack in the region of Jurf al-Sakhar in the province of Babil.

Biden Pick For Pentagon Mideast Desk Bragged That US "Owns" Syrian Oil Territory

President Joe Biden recently tapped Dana Stroul to lead the Pentagon’s Middle East desk, according to Axios and other reports. She'll serve as the deputy assistant secretary of Defense for the Middle East after a previous stint as a senior official on the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and as a longtime fellow at the hawkish Washington Institute for Near East Policy.

She had also previously worked on Mideast policy at the Pentagon under the Obama administration. As we noted before, this and other appointments gives more alarming context to Biden's constant message on the foreign policy front that "America is back" and is "ready to lead the world" once again.

Stroul was recently on record as touting that America "owns" one-third of Syrian territory, particularly the resource-rich northeast region. So much for the administration "distancing" itself from Trump policies... (given Trump was the first to repeatedly and bluntly state the US was there "securing" Syria's oil).

Withdrawing Troops from Iraq and Syria Is Biden's Best Play to Avoid War in the Middle East

For the fifth time in two weeks, Iran conducted major military drills Jan. 19, with the show of force coming two days after the U.S. flew B-52 Stratofortresses near Iranian airspace.

If the Biden administration's objectives are to avoid war in the Middle East and keep America safe, continuing to apply the thoroughly discredited "maximum pressure" campaign is the last thing the new president should do. Though it may appear counterintuitive, withdrawing all our combat troops from Iraq and Syria is Biden's best play.

Some analysts suggest that the best way for Biden to respond to Iran's actions is to continue applying pressure to Tehran. But overwhelming evidence screams that maximum pressure on Iran has been an abysmal failure.

Scott Greytak, the group’s advocacy director, said public trust in US elections has been eroded by disinformation and unprecedented amounts of untraceable money in campaigns.

US Convoy Reported Moving Into Syria From Iraq

According to the Syrian state news outlet SANA, a US-led military convoy of about 40 vehicles entered northeastern Syria from Iraq on Thursday. The convoy reportedly passed through the al-Waleed border crossing.

US convoys frequently transit between Iraq and Syria and are often reported by SANA. Last week, SANA reported that a US military convoy consisting of 60 vehicles entered Syria through al-Waleed.

Some reports said 200 US troops arrived in Syria’s northeastern Hasakeh province on helicopters, but nothing has been confirmed. The US has been intentionally vague about how many soldiers it has stationed in Syria. The former US envoy to Syria, Jim Jeffrey, who resigned in November, admitted in an interview that he was “always playing shell games” to hide the real number of US troops in Syria.

US ‘Plundering’ Syrian Oil to ‘Send to Israel’, Claims US Ex-Diplomat

Syria’s state-run media earlier reported that 200 troops had been flown to US bases in al-Shaddadi on 21 January for future deployment at Omar oil field and Koniko gas field in neighbouring Deir ez-Zor province. It was also reported that the US-led military coalition had dispatched 40 truckloads of weapons and logistical equipment to Hasakah.

The United States is plundering Syria’s natural resources to send them to other places that will benefit from American theft, claimed J. Michael Springmann, a former US diplomat in Saudi Arabia.

“The United States of America is moving soldiers from Iraq, which it is occupying, to Syria, which it continues to occupy, in order to steal Syrian oil from the Syrian people and to send the oil to somewhere else, presumably to the Apartheid entity (Israel) and other places that will benefit from American theft of Syrian oil,” the American political commentator and author was quoted as saying by Press TV on 23 January.

Syria: Are water supplies being weaponized by Turkey?

Around 1 million people in the Kurdish-governed region of Al-Hasakah in Syria's northeast have again had their water supply cut off — as they have around 20 times in the past 12 months.

"This is a humanitarian disaster," Sara Kayyali, a Syria researcher at Human Rights Watch, told DW. As of this Sunday, some parts of the region are experiencing the eighth straight day without water.

Problems with the supply from the nearest water station, Alouk, have been growing since Turkish forces and their Syrian rebel proxies took charge in October 2019, after the so-called Operation Peace Spring that targeted the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the region. While the water station has been under Turkish control since then, it relies on the SDF-controlled Mabrouka Electricity Station for its power. Turkey's objective behind Operation Peace Spring was to create a 30-kilometer (19-mile) wide "safe zone" under Turkish control inside Syria.

Israel's deadly raids on Syria and US support for it

In less than a week since the last wave of Israeli strikes on Syria targeted positions in the southern outskirts of Damascus and killed three pro-Iran fighters, Israeli warplanes last week carried out intense airstrikes in eastern Syria killing at least 57 fighters and wounding dozens.

The overnight airstrikes were apparently targeting positions and arms depots of Iran-backed forces as the region is on high alert, according to a Syrian opposition war monitoring group.

GUARDIAN SMEARS SYRIA'S PRESIDENT WITH IMPLAUSIBLE LINK TO BEIRUT'S PORT BLAST

On August 4 2020 2.750 tons of ammonium nitrate, stored in a warehouse of Beirut's harbour, exploded. The blast destroyed large parts of the city.

The dangerous load had come on a defect ship which was impounded by the Lebanese authorities. It had been stored since 2013. Despite urgent warnings, the complicate Lebanese bureaucracy had never found a way to get rid of the dangerous load.

Soon conspiracy theories sprang up about the 'real' ownership and purpose of the load and of who might have had an interest in igniting it. None made much sense. The original explanation of a bureaucratic tussle and pure neglect are still the most plausible cause.

But that does not stop the British Guardian from trying to blame the Syrian government for the incident:

Aleppo: Industrial Capital of Syria Rises from the Ashes

Saint Simeon, on the outskirts of Aleppo, was the largest church in the world in the fifth century. After Islam arrived in Syria, the country has remained a dense mixture of cultures and faiths, living in tolerance and cooperation until 2011, when a US-NATO war for ‘regime change’ began which destroyed the country, and scattered its citizens to the far corners of the world.

According to UNESCO, Aleppo is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, and it has survived the war but faces many challenges to recover, rebuild, and bring its citizens back home.

“What’s special about this city is its living cultural heritage,” says Dima Dayoub, an Aleppan architect now working in Berlin for the Syrian Heritage Initiative. “The priority is not the churches or the mosques, it’s for people to return. We need to help people reconstruct their homes and their livelihoods.”

US official reveals Israel carried out attacks on eastern Syria using American intelligence

A senior US intelligence official says recent airstrikes on eastern parts of Syria near the Iraqi border were carried out by Israel with intelligence provided by the United States.

Syria's official news agency SANA said the air assaults were carried out on the city of Dayr al-Zawr and the town of al-Bukamal in the early hours of Wednesday.

SANA, citing a military source, said that Israel launched the air aggression “exactly 01:10 at dawn,” adding that officials were assessing if any damage or casualties were caused.

The US official with knowledge of the attack, who requested anonymity, told the Associated Press that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had discussed the raid with Yossi Cohen, chief of Israel’s spy agency Mossad, at a public meeting in a Washington restaurant on Monday.

Syria: 70 notables assassinated in YPG-controlled areas

In recent months, the areas controlled by the People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the governorate of Deir ez-Zor (eastern Syria) have witnessed assassinations of notables and respected personalities on a near-daily basis.

Local sources in the governorate revealed on Wednesday that they had documented about 70 assassinations of notables in the YPG-controlled areas over the last five months.

The sources told Anadolu Agency that unknown individuals carried out assassinations on an almost daily basis, since the murder of Leader of Al-Aqeedat tribe Mutashar Al-Hafl in August 2020, taking advantage of the significant security deterioration in the YPG areas.

The sources added that last November, in the town of Al-Sijr, unidentified individuals assassinated Abdul-Razzaq Al-Muhammad and Ibrahim Al-Attiyah (nicknamed Abu Bakr Qadisiyah), a former commander of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) who was known for his strong opposition to the YPG.

Israel Continues to Attack Syria as Tehran Awaits Biden Administration

In the fourth series of Israeli strikes on Syrian soil in the past two weeks, warplanes hit the border region near Iraq in Deir Ezzor Province, hitting warehouses near Abu Kamal, which media claim were being used by Shi’ite militias.

Israel and the Israeli press present Shi’ite militias as Iranians, though in practice the militias in this area are almost exclusively Iraqi PMF fighters who crossed in to continue fighting against ISIS.

With Iran looking to wait out the Trump Administration, and with high hopes for a diplomacy reset with Biden, Israel is stepping up the attacks on Iran, or perceived Iranian targets, to try to stir things up at the last minute.

The Caesar Photos and Impunity in Syria

Western media are reporting headline claims that “new evidence supports claims about Syrian state detention deaths”, saying that “a leading rights group has released new evidence that up to 7,000 Syrians who died in state detention centres were tortured, mistreated, or executed”, noting that this information is a moral wakeup call and demanding that officials being held to account should be “central to peace efforts.”

However, as is usually so, not everything is quite as it seems. So let’s take a look at the facts.

First the timing.

As has been commonplace the timing of the reports like these have almost always coincided with important diplomatic meetings or just after important UN resolutions are passed.

Russia says reinforcing Syrian area where Turkey-backed fighters have clashed with Kurdish forces

Russia said late on Sunday it had sent more military police to an area in northern Syria where fighters backed by Turkey have clashed with Kurdish forces near a strategic highway patrolled by Russian and Turkish troops.

The deployment comes ahead of talks in Russia on Tuesday between Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu. They are expected to focus in part on Syria, where Turkey backs rebels opposed to President Bashar al-Assad, while Russia supports Assad’s forces.

Battles between Turkish-backed fighters and Kurdish forces erupted this month near the town of Ain Issa, which sits on the M4 highway that links major Syrian cities.

Hundreds of Syrians flee Lebanon camp after tents torched

Hundreds of Syrian refugees fled their makeshift camp in north Lebanon after their tents were torched when fighting broke out between local youths and camp residents, aid officials said on Sunday.

At least three people were wounded in the clash on Saturday in the Miniyeh region near the coastal city of Tripoli, which was followed by youths setting the campsite on fire, Lebanon’s state-owned National News Agency said.

Lebanon has seen a rise in tensions between refugees and residents in recent years that humanitarian workers and politicians say have been fuelled by both racism and anger of Lebanese who blame refugees for taking their jobs amid a financial crisis.

Bread lines reflect wider crisis in Syria

Every morning, Abu Mohammed and his two eldest sons wake up for dawn prayer in Damascus, then take turns heading to the bakery.

They wait for at least three hours, barely making it to work or school on time, he said. Often, the boys miss their first few classes. Sometimes they miss the whole day.

"One day I stood for seven hours," he said in a phone interview. "The next day it was eight, then six. I saw that my work was being hit. I need to work. I need to live."

ISRAEL IS SEARCHING FOR PRETEXT TO INVADE SOUTHERN SYRIA

The Russian military and Russian-backed Syrian forces have been increasing their presence on the border with Iraq.

Less than a week ago, the Russian Military Police established a local HQ in al-Bukamal. Recently, the 5th Corps of the Syrian Army, known for its links with the Russian military, created a network of border posts in the area. The move was apparently coordinated with Iranian-backed forces and the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces that actively operate in the border area.

Al-Bukamal is locating less than 30km from the town of al-Qaim, the stronghold of the Popular Mobilization Forces on the Iraqi side of the border.

Pro-Israeli sources claim that the increasing Russian presence in southern Deir Ezzor and along the border with Iraq may be a sign of a nearing Iranian withdrawal from the region. At the same time, there are no indications that Iranian-backed forces are going to withdraw from al-Bukamal anytime soon.

RUSSIAN FORCES ESTABLISH PRESENCE ON SYRIAN-IRAQI BORDER

Over the past weeks, the Syrian Army and its allies have intensified their operations against ISIS cells hiding in the Homs-Deir Ezzor desert.

According to pro-government sources, during the past few days, Syrian government forces and Iranian-backed militias carried out a series of raids to the south of the Palmyra-Deir Ezzor highway and southeast of al-Mayadin. Pro-militant media outlets clam that over 10 Syrian soldiers and 15 ISIS members died in these clashes.

The Russian Aerospace Forces also resumed their strikes on ISIS targets in the desert region. Pro-opposition sources say that the Russians delivered over 100 airstrikes. Indeed, the intensity of this campaign demonstrates that the regularly resurfacing ISIS cells, which actively exploit the state of chaos on the Syrian-Iraqi border, pose a notable security threat.

25 Killed as ISIS Fights Troops in Syria Desert

Over the weekend, heavy fighting was reported in the Syrian desert, with ISIS again going after troops in the area around Aleppo and Hama. The reports are that about 25 were killed, 15 from ISIS.

While there was fighting reported throughout the weekend, there was also a report of 70 Russian airstrikes in the area. This likely reflects ISIS’s growing interest in expanding out of the desert, and the focus on keeping them pinned down.

ISIS has been conducting a growing number of attacks, particularly in the deserts, as they try to inflict meaningful casualties on government forces. ISIS has been in the desert almost exclusively in recent years, and wants to reassert itself in more valuable parts of the nation.
