Another Opinion Columnist Pushing War With Iran Who Doesn’t Actually Exist

There is at least one more foreign policy opinion writer from the Mujahideen-eKhalq (MEK) whose existence is dubious, based on a study by a social media analyst and statements from a defector from the group. Amir Basiri, who contributed to Forbes 9 times, the Washington Examiner 52 times, OpenDemocracy, Algemeiner, and The Hill once also appears to be a fabrication.

Webmaster's Commentary:

To those calling for regime change in Iran (fictitious or real); am I the only human on the planet NOT dealing with an industrial-strength case of SMD (selective memory disorder) concerning a Russian sponsored conference on Iran last summer, in which the Iranian delegates were assured that Iran won't be alone, if the US attacks it?!?!

The article went on to state: '“Iran will withstand this type of fight and Iran is not alone,” Zamir Kabulov, the Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for Asian countries including Iran, said at a Russian-Iranian policy forum in Moscow.

When asked if Russia was ready to provide material support to Iran if the U.S. attacks it, Kabulov said that “specific actions are a question for the Russian president.”

“But it’s not just Russia, many other countries sympathize and empathize with Iran,” the Kommersant business daily quoted him as saying. “Tehran won’t be alone if the U.S., God forbid, takes wild and irresponsible actions against it.”

Forgive me, but fighting Russia - in terms of attempting to create regime change in Tehran - doesn't strike me as a "win" for the US government.

The US government still hasn't gotten over the 1979 revolution in Iran, where the US "plant", the Shah was kicked out, and an Ayatollah installed as the Iranian leader.

US Defends its Illegal Presence in Syria: US troops in Syria clashed with both Russian and Syrian government forces in August

In comments to Newsweek, the US State Department defended the US occupation of eastern Syria. Washington’s policy in Syria has come under fire in recent weeks after US troops clashed with both Syrian government forces and Russian soldiers.

“We have been very clear regarding our overall policy goals in Syria,” the State Department told Newsweek. “The United States’ policy objectives for Syria have been consistent and remain the same: the enduring defeat of ISIS and Al-Qaeda, an irreversible political solution to the Syrian conflict in line with UNSCR 2254, and the removal of all Iranian-supported forces.”

The State Department spokesperson also addressed a recent oil deal inked between a US company and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), who the US backs. “We are continuing the vital mission of assisting our SDF partners in securing oil fields in northeast Syria once occupied and used by ISIS to generate revenue,” the spokesperson said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is zero justification for the US's continued illegal occupation of Syria; and you can bet, if the Russian military, who were invited by the Syrian government to get rid of the US funded/trained jihadists, find themselves in a situation where they feel they have to defend themselves, they will.

Is this what President Trump is hoping to provoke here?!? Starting World War III over Syria with Russia as a distraction from his failed international and domestic policies before an election cycle?!?

Somebody, please tell me that the Trump administration is not this ham-fistedly, pig- headedly stupid!!!

THE STAGE IS SET FOR A VENEZUELA OCTOBER SURPRISE

CARACAS (VZA) – AGGRESSION AGAINST VENEZUELA FROM THE US HAS INTENSIFIED IN RECENT WEEKS AND ALL SIGNS ARE POINTING TOWARDS AN ESCALATION AHEAD OF ELECTIONS IN THE US AND VENEZUELA.
The hybrid war against Venezuela is intensifying as the US presidential campaign is heating up. The Trump administration and its Venezuelan and international allies have set the stage for an October surprise, a possible attack by the United States or one of its proxies designed to boost President Trump’s reelection. The attacks on Venezuela are coming from multiple dimensions, including overt military pressure, economic pressure, covert operations, and disinformation campaigns. All of these are elements of a hybrid war that has sought to overthrow the government of President Nicolás Maduro over the past years, and each element has seen new developments over the past few weeks, just as Venezuela is battling a surge in COVID-19 cases.

OVERT MILITARY PRESSURE

Webmaster's Commentary:

George Carlin, made the observation in his stand-up routine; "We kill brown people, because we're good at it!"

But what happens if a besieged Venezuela gets military assistance from another world player, say, perhaps... China, who is growing infinitely more frustrated with a US, attempting to throw its weight around, particularly in what it believes is rightfully, China's sphere of influence?!?

Folks, I don't know how likely this is right now, as we celebrate Labor Day in this country; but even were I betting person, I would not bet against this possibility becoming real; then we would have World War III for real, and very close to our own doorstep.

Exclusive: Nearly 700 U.S. Veterans Issue Open Letter in Support of Trump

Nearly 700 American veterans have issued an open letter affirming their support of President Trump against establishment media attacks weeks before the 2020 presidential election.

This week, The Atlantic journalist Jeffrey Goldberg published a story citing anonymous sources, claiming that Trump did not want to visit the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery at the site of Battle of Belleau Wood in 2018. The story, citing those anonymous sources, claims Trump called the cemetery “filled with losers” and referred to fallen soldiers who died at Belleau Wood as “suckers.”

In an open letter obtained exclusively by Breitbart News, about 674 veterans wrote that their support for Trump, against attacks by the establishment media, remains unwavering because of his record of supporting the United States military and ending foreign wars.

Iranian Resistance Axis Strikes Back: Convoys With US Equipment Blowing Up In Iraq

Submitted by South Front,

On September 3, an explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED) targeted a convoy with equipment of the US-led coalition in the southern Iraqi province of Dhi Qar.

Iraqi troops that were escorting the convoy suffered no casualties. According to local sources, no significant damage was caused to the equipment. Following the incident, security forces detained 2 suspects near the explosion site. The investigation is ongoing.

However, it is no secret that the attack was likely conducted by one of multiple pro-Iranian Shiite groups that surfaced in the country following the assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani and several prominent Iraqi commanders by a US strike in Baghdad in January.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Pentagon and the US government will not allow an orderly withdrawal from Iraq, because it would telegraph that despite the blood and money spent, we have lost this one.

JCPOA Signatories in Vienna Reject Snapback Sanctions on Iran

Hegemon USA increasingly finds itself isolated on the world stage.

The harder it pressures, bullies, otherwise threatens and/or bludgeons other countries to bend to its will, the further its isolation longer-term.

On Tuesday, Joint Commission of the JCPOA signatories Russia, China, Britain, France, Germany and Iran met in Vienna, a statement by Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov saying the following:

“We are witnessing an important process of consolidation of parties to the JCPOA against this American venture.”

“We are certain that the results of today’s event will help our colleagues in New York continue their work in the right direction.”

Ministers attending the meeting stressed the importance of preserving the landmark JCPOA agreement.

By abandoning it illegally in May 2018, the Trump regime has no say on matters relating to it.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Please read this very carefully; if the US takes any unilateral action against Iran, it will have zero support from the other P4+1 members.

The current ban on foreign weapons being sold to Iran ends Sunday, 18 October; last summer, at a conference including Iranian delegates, the Russian diplomat leading the conference made the following statement:
Iran ‘Won’t Be Alone’ If U.S. Attacks, Russian Official Says

The Russian diplomat making that promise was one Zamir Kabulov, a career diplomat who is very close to Putin, and would not have made that statement without Putin's express approval.

He went on to state: "“But it’s not just Russia, many other countries sympathize and empathize with Iran,” the Kommersant business daily quoted him as saying. “Tehran won’t be alone if the U.S., God forbid, takes wild and irresponsible actions against it.”

War with Russia over Iran>?!? What the hell are those in the bowels of power in DC thinking?!?

Buchanan: Where Will All These War Games Lead?

In northeast Syria last week, a U.S. military vehicle collided with a Russian armored vehicle, injuring four American soldiers.

Both the Americans and Russians blame each other for failing to follow established rules of the road. Had an American been killed, we could have had a crisis on our hands.

Query: With the ISIS caliphate dead and buried, why are 500 U.S. troops still in Syria a year after Donald Trump said we would be pulling them out? What are they doing there to justify risking a clash with Russian troops who are in Syria as the invited allies of the Damascus regime of Bashar Assad, whether we approve of his regime or not?

Nor was this the only U.S.-Russian faceoff last week.

Over the Black Sea, two Russian military jets swept past the nose of an American B-52, one of the bombers on which the airborne leg of our strategic deterrent depends. The Russian Su-27s flew so close to the B-52 that their afterburners shook the eight-engine bomber.

What the UAE-Israel Deal Really Means for the Middle East

A key part of this joint intelligence initiative between the UAE and Israel (and, by extension, the U.S.) has been the dramatic increase in the past two years of the purchase of commercial and adjunct residential properties in Iran’s southern Khuzestan province – a key sector for its oil and gas reserves – by UAE-registered businesses, particularly those based in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, said the source.

“Around 500,000 Iranians left Iran around the time of the [1979 Islamic] Revolution and settled in Dubai, in the first instance, and then Abu Dhabi, and they have never been in favour of the IRGC having the key role in Iran, so some of them have been used to front businesses or commercial property developments in Khuzestan that are being funded from business registered in those two states of the UAE,” he added.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There you have it, folks!!

NATO Begins Provocative Military Exercises on Russian Border

Once again, NATO is operating dangerous and bold military maneuvers in regions close to the European Russian border. This time, the country hosting the tests is Estonia, a Baltic State that in recent decades has been characterized by a strong pro-Western and anti-Russian stance. The small European country is occupied by a large contingent of American troops and will be in such a situation until at least September 10, when the operations end.

The tests started on September 1 are already causing a small diplomatic crisis between Russia and the United States. The Russian Embassy in Washington commented on the exercises with great antipathy:

This "collective chest beating" one would expect from a bunch of primates in Africa or Asia; not civilized countries, alleging that they are waging these exercises "in the cause of "peace"; Putin is no fool, and knows better.

Indian special forces member killed in China border skirmish

A soldier of Tibetan origin with India's special forces has reportedly been killed in the latest border confrontation between India and China on their contested Himalayan border, fuelling concerns of a wider military confrontation between the two regional powers.

The death is the first reported from two incidents occurring within 48 hours on the border, two months after a battle that left at least 20 Indian soldiers dead.

India and China, which fought a border war in 1962, have each accused the other of trying to cross their unofficial frontier in the Ladakh region in an attempt to gain territory.

The Indian government has not commented on the reports of the death, but Namgyal Dolkar Lhagyari, a member of the Tibetan Parliament in exile, told AFP news agency on Tuesday that the Tibetan-origin soldier was "martyred during the clash" on Saturday night. She did not identify the soldier by name.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Unless an Adult in the Room of geopolitics with some shred of professional integrity left, starts working the phones between Beijing and New Dehli, we have the potential for a military knock-down, drag-out between two nuclear armed countries.

Report: UAE Letting Israel Send Spies Into Yemen

Reports originating in the Turkish state media are claiming that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia are allowing Israel’s intelligence agencies growing access into Yemen, with the UAE in particular giving Israeli agents access to the strategic island of Socotra.

There is still not a lot of evidence of how far-reaching this is. One Socotra tribal elder was quoting in the media saying this is the case. Socotra’s tribes have been trying to build up opposition to the UAE’s assertion of control over the island during the ongoing Yemen War.

Socotra has regional strategic value, which is why the UAE wants a presence there, and presumably why Israel would also want a presence there. Couple this with the Israel-UAE peace, and the allegation practically writes itself.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I frankly wouldn't be surprised if this story proves true.

Buchanan: Where Will All These War Games Lead?

Authored by Patrick Buchanan via Buchanan.org,

Nor was this the only U.S.-Russian faceoff last week.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Just because an action is the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing the US government could do is, unfortunately, no guarantee that it will not do it.

All it takes is one mis-read, one misunderstanding, one not following the rules, and suddenly, we are looking at the US government having gotten this country into a shooting war with..... fill in the blank.

Current hot spots, and situations, include the South China Sea; the border between India and Pakistan; the border between India and China; Belarus; Armenia and Azerbaijan's border; Iran and Israel; Lebanon and Israel; Greece and Turkey squaring off over the Mediterranean oil fields; the Bering sea; and Syria.

There are many in the Bowels of Power in DC who hope for such a war, because it was war that got the US out of the terrible depressions which proceeded both World War I and World War II.

But the situation, with the US and the world, is an entirely different kind of beast in this part of the 21st century.

Many countries now are nuclear-armed and capable; this includes Pakistan; India; China; and Russia. The US weapons systems don't work as advertised; rarely get actually delivered on time, and by the time they are delivered, have been rendered obsolete by other countries' push in weapons technology, and are delivered at cost over-runs large enough to drive a truck through.

The US is dealing with an economic depression of cosmic proportions, exacerbated by Covid-19, and massive riots and unrest in many urban areas; on top of this, it is an election year in this country.

I frankly think, that wise leadership would work as hard as they could to get the domestic issues sorted first, before they would even contemplate a war against a country like Lichtenstein; but then again, that... would be wise leadership.

"Poisons Regional Peace": Turkey Enraged After US Lifts Decades-Old Arms Embargo On Cyprus

The timing significantly comes amid Turkey's Mediterranean gas exploration standoff with Greece and Cyprus, which this past weekend very nearly resulted in shots fired, as the conflict gets increasingly militarized: the US has announced it will lift a decades-old arms embargo on Cyprus.

For now, the US move will only allow "non-lethal" military items to be exported to EU member Cyprus. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo relayed the change to Republic of Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades in a Tuesday phone call.

Pompeo further "reaffirmed US support for a comprehensive settlement to reunify the island" - given the arms embargo was imposed in the first place in 1987 in the hope it would encourage reunification, following Turkey's military invasion and occupation of the northern half of the island since 1974.

President Anastasiades welcomed the temporary sanctions lifting, while predictably Turkey sees it as a direct threat, immediately urging Washington to reverse course:

Webmaster's Commentary:

Edrogan has dreams of a new Ottoman Empire, while his people are mired in a severe economic depression, not to mention freedom of speech in this country going down the skids at warp speed.

Turkey's Erdogan accuses EU of using Greece as 'bait'

Turkish President Recep Tayyip accused European nations of using Greece as "bait" in the Mediterranean Sea confrontation while belittling Athens' military might on Tuesday.

Erdogan, who has threatened Greece with military action, described Turkey's activities in the eastern Mediterranean as the "pursuit of [its] rights and justice" and denounced what he said were Greek efforts to "imprison" Turkey to a small region surrounding its coast.

"Efforts to descend on the riches of the Mediterranean, which are the rights of every country around it, is an example of modern-day colonialism," Erdogan said.

He also accused some nations he did not name of pushing Greece into a confrontation with Turkey.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And NATO - in which both nations are members - does absolutely NOTHING to ratchet down the rhetoric.

Hamas deputy: We’ll give Israel two months to implement ceasefire

Khalil al-Hayya says truce brought $30 million in aid to Gaza, threatens return to violence if Israel doesn’t hold up its side of the deal.

If Israel does not fulfill the terms of the ceasefire agreement with Hamas by the end of two months, there could be another round of escalation of violence on the southern border, a senior official in the Gaza-based terror group, Khalil al-Hayya, said on Tuesday night.

“Our demand is for the occupation to follow all of prior agreements without procrastinating or delay,” al-Hayya said in an interview with official Hamas al-Aqsa TV. “We will give the occupation two months, and we will monitor its behavior in implementing projects and bringing in other projects. They need to implement the projects.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Fingers crossed here, but I am not holding my breath that the cease-fire will actually hold; Israeli political and military history with Hamas doesn't make me hopeful here.

Trump Must Back Iraq Withdrawal Promise With Action — Ron Paul

Yes, General Odom was right. It was a strategic disaster. Turning the US into a global military empire is also a strategic disaster. How Should The European Union Respond To Rising Greece-Turkey Tensions?

Authored by Michael Leigh via Bruegel.org,

If the European Union can mediate effectively to resolve current Greek-Turkish tensions over energy in the Eastern Mediterranean, it could also provide an opportunity to tackle more deep-rooted problems.

But so far, the two most powerful EU nations have adopted a ‘good cop, bad cop’ approach that conveys different and confusing messages – and has not prevented escalation. Chancellor Angela Merkel, with the added authority of holding the EU’s six-month revolving presidency, has launched a German initiative to prevent escalation, reduce tensions and overcome longstanding conflicts. But French President Emmanuel Macron, while not eschewing mediation, has opted for a show of force, sending French naval vessels into disputed waters to counter the presence of Turkish warships.

Deep-rooted dispute
The dispute is ostensibly over ownership of offshore gas deposits and the delimitation of 200-mile exclusive economic zones (EEZs).

Webmaster's Commentary:

And BTW, where the hell is NATO as all of this enmity plays out between Greece and Turkey, two brother NATO countries?!?

If NATO is impotent to unwind this, which means potential war in the region, it should disband, because it has proven useless, toothless, and suffering from organisational systemic rot.

'Shoot On-Site': Chicago Gangs Form Pact To Execute Cops Who Draw Weapons On Suspects, Says FBI

The FBI has warned Chicago-area law enforcement that nearly three-dozen street gangs "have formed a pact to 'shoot on-site any cop that has a weapon drawn on any subject in public'," reports ABC7.

According to an August 26 'situation information report' from Chicago-based FBI officials, "members of these gang factions have been actively searching for, and filming, police officers in performance of their official duties. The purpose of which is to catch on film an officer drawing his/her weapon on any subject and the subsequent 'shoot on-site' of said officer, in order to garner national media attention."

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF, in fact, these reports are true, you are going to see Chicago law enforcement officers vote with their feet, and get jobs elsewhere; retire early; and leave the city in even a worse mess that previously believed imaginable.

U.S. Navy sends a warship through the Taiwan Strait for the second time in two weeks - days after an American destroyer sailed near disputed South China Sea islands amid rising tensions between Washington and Beijing

A U.S. Navy warship has transited the narrow and sensitive Taiwan Strait for the second time in two weeks.

Taiwan's Defence Ministry confirmed the operation on Monday amid rising tensions between China and the United States.

The ministry said a U.S. destroyer, which it did not name, had sailed in a southerly direction through the strait and was continuing to sail south.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Mr. President, a word, please; you need to talk to "an adult in the room" regarding China, and the US's current "picador stance" against it.

There is a point past which China's President Xi cannot allow these incursions to stand, without "losing face" to his Asian Pacific neighbors, and it appears that the US is attempting to provoke him to respond.

I would strongly suggest, Mr. President, that this is the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly wrong move the US could possibly make at this time.

We don't have the money; the troop strength; the weaponry; or the manufacturing to pursue a positive outcome in a war against China at this point.

Besides which, after World War Two, courtesy of the Cairo Pact, the South China Seas were ceded to China by this agreement.

China says United States should 'brush up on' South China Sea history the article goes on to state:

"The United States needs to brush up on its history about the South China Sea, as World War Two-related agreements mandated that all Chinese territories taken by Japan had to be returned to China, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in Australia."

If, in fact, the US "gave its word" that this would remain true, why is the US attempting to break that word by these repeated "Freedom of Navigation" exercises?!?

There is only one explanation; it is to make President Xi act first, so that his actions against American military hardware and personnel, cast him as "the baddie" in the eyes of the world, so that the US response to this "outrage" will appear "justified."

Fresh Clash Erupts Between Indian-Chinese Troops in Pangong Tso

India and China have been in a border stand-off along the 4,057 km Line of Actual Control since the last week of April. The violent face-off between the troops of the neighbouring countries in Pangong Tso on 15 June left 20 Indian army soldiers dead, resulting in a series of disengagement talks at the diplomatic and military level.

The Indian Army has revealed that fresh clashes erupted between the troops of China and India during the night, on 29-30 August, when the People's Liberation Army carried out "provocative military movements" in the eastern Ladakh region.

"On the night of 29/30 August, People's Liberation Army troops violated the previous consensus arrived at during military and diplomatic engagements during an ongoing standoff in Eastern Ladakh and carried out provocative military movements to change the status quo," said Colonel Aman Anand, PRO, Army.

Webmaster's Commentary:

PLEASE, will some "adult in the room" of geopolitics with some shred of professional credibility left, start working the phones between Beijing and New Dehli?!?

This cannot be allowed to escalate, and is one of the many flashpoints which could, conceivably, trigger World War III.

September 11, 2001: “The Global War on Terrorism” is Fake. Al Qaeda is “Made in America”

The tragic events of 9/11 provided the required justification to wage war on Afghanistan on “humanitarian grounds”, with the full support of World public opinion and the endorsement of the “international community”. Several prominent “progressive” intellectuals made a case for “retaliation against terrorism”, on moral and ethical grounds. The “just cause” military doctrine (jus ad bellum) was accepted and upheld at face value as a legitimate response to 9/11.

In the wake of 9/11, the antiwar movement was completely isolated. The trade unions and civil society organizations had swallowed the media lies and government propaganda. They had accepted a war of retribution against Afghanistan, an impoverished country in Central Asia of 30 million people.

Webmaster's Commentary:

When the official narrative is an absolute lie, those in power will attempt to do ANYTHING to prevent the truth from coming out; this is one of the myriad reasons I so respect my husband, Michael Rivero, who is the webmaster of this site, as well as those who contribute to it.

Telling the truth is hard, and sometimes feels thankless, and God only knows, is NOT financially lucrative; people who perpetuate the lies are handsomely compensated.

Overt military pressure

Webmaster's Commentary:

The question, regarding any kind of coup or regime change against the Maduro government, falls squarely on the soldiers of its military; if Maduro's military remains loyal, I do not think the government can be brought to its knees;that being said, if decides to back the outsiders because they have been promised promotions, percs, or better pay, then all bets are off.

U.S. Control of Alexandroupolis Port Will Not Help to Protect Greece from Turkey

The Greek Private Asset Utilization Fund (HRADF) will sell a 67% stake of Alexandroupolis Port in northern Greece near the border with Turkey and Bulgaria. Two American companies are believed to be interested in the deal. Selling a port of strategic importance to U.S. companies, coupled with the availability of the facility for U.S. and NATO troops, is raising many questions in Greece. The Mediterranean country remains only one in two countries surveyed in NATO where the civilian population is not in favor of the alliance and only 36% of Greeks view the U.S. favourably. An announcement issued by HRADF emphasized that the bid consisted of two phases – “in the first phase, interested parties are invited to express their intention to participate before 5:00 pm on October 2, 2020.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

"Greater Turkey"?!?!?

Where is NATO in all this?!? this must be settled peacefully, through negotiations, or all hell is about to break loose, both in Eastern Europe, and the Middle East.

Because if they allow this Turkish madness to continue, it will mean the utter death of NATO.

Greece will defend every one of their possession in the Eastern Aegian islands to the blood of their last soldier on the field; and if the Turks do not understand that, they are out of their collective minds.

Police fire pellet guns on Kashmir Muharram procession: Witnesses

Government forces have fired shotgun pellets and tear gas to disperse hundreds of mainly Shia Muslims participating in a Muharram procession in Indian-administered Kashmir, injuring dozens, witnesses have said.

The violence came as the disputed Himalayan region - where nearly 97 percent of residents are Muslims - observed Ashoura on Saturday, the 10th day of the Muharram month in the Islamic lunar calendar.

Jafar Ali, a witness, told AFP news agency the procession started in the Bemina area on the outskirts of the main city of Srinagar and that government forces were present in heavy numbers.

Ali and other people who saw the clashes said security forces fired pellets and tear gas to break up the gathering. Police said mourners violated prohibitory orders that restrict all religious processions to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The people organising this religious demonstration decided to break the law, in order to make Indian authorities look bad and wrong; the Indian authorities are using any excuse to suppress other than Hindu worship, and the organisers had to know this. Neither can escape the responsibility for the injuries which happened here.

Turkey intercepts six Greek F-16 jets in the Mediterranean as tensions rise

Turkey said on Saturday it will hold a military exercise off northwest Cyprus for the next two weeks, two days after it intercepted six Greek F-16 jets in the Mediterranean amid growing tensions with Athens over energy exploration rights.

Video footage posted by the Turkish defence ministry on Friday purportedly showed Turkish Air Force planes preventing the Greek aircraft from entering the area where Turkey was operating. The F-16s had departed from the island of Crete and were heading towards southern Cyprus, the statement said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, a word on this, please, sir; we have two NATO-member countries, very close to starting shooting war over gas exploration in the Mediterranean; this needs to get de-escalated, and quickly.

Syria's Assad names new government headed by PM Arnous

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad issued a decree Sunday appointing a new cabinet without changing the heads of so-called "sovereign" portfolios, days after confirming Hussein Arnous as the country's premier.
The decree, published on the presidency's social media channels, keeps the heads of the foreign affairs, defence, interior, economy and information ministries in their posts but changes those in charge of 12 other cabinet portfolios, including the ministries of finance, energy and public health.

The 29-minister government, which includes three female ministers, is the fifth to be formed since the outbreak of Syria's civil war in 2011.

It came as Syria grapples with a grinding economic crisis, a spiraling coronavirus outbreak and continued violence in the country's north.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As long as Russia supports the current Syrian government, any and all "regime change" efforts, including sanctions against this country, coupled with the deployment of US trained and funded jihadists in the North, will continue to fail.

Are We Deliberately Trying To Provoke A Military Crisis With Russia?

Tensions are becoming dangerous in Syria and on Russia's back doorstep.

A dangerous vehicle collision between U.S and Russian soldiers in Northeastern Syria on Aug. 24 highlights the fragility of the relationship and the broader test of wills between the two major powers.

A sober examination of U.S. policy toward Russia since the disintegration of the Soviet Union leads to two possible conclusions. One is that U.S. leaders, in both Republican and Democratic administrations, have been utterly tone-deaf to how Washington’s actions are perceived in Moscow. The other possibility is that those leaders adopted a policy of maximum jingoistic swagger intended to intimidate Russia, even if it meant obliterating a constructive bilateral relationship and eventually risking a dangerous showdown. Washington’s latest military moves, especially in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea, are stoking alarming tensions.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Provoking Russia may "play well" to America's illiterate, innumerate, and illogical groundlings who, for generations have been fed the "Russia-bad!! geopolitical poison"; but logically, at this point in the 21st century, it is counterproductive to any peaceful future with Russia, and that... is stupid beyond belief.

President Putin is a cautious man, with a very deep understanding of history; he is working toward improving the standards of living for his people, making Russian business sound, and does not want any real provocation with the US or the West.

President Trump eschews a real, and meaningful dialogue with him, on issues like nuclear non-proliferation, at the peril of starting world war III.

And Mr. President, a word on that, please; the US military doesn't have the weaponry; the troop strength; the money; or the manufacturing to insure a positive outcome in a shooting war against Russia.

And with weaponry, this country is consistently behind the proverbial 8-ball, compared to Russia and China. And why is this?!?

This is because the guys you play golf with, who represent the military industrial complex, believe that once they have contributed mightily to a President's successful election campaign, they don't have to deliver better weapons, at less cost, on time, and within budget, which actually perform as they advertise.

Mr. President, forgive me, but ..... there, in a nutshell, is your problem, and unless and until this is dealt with, intelligently and swiftly, the US military will continue to lag behind in weapons development for weapons which actually work as advertised.

And sir, if you don't believe me, please observe the performance of Russia's S-400 in Syria; it's no secret that other countries are lining up to purchase Russian weaponry systems, because they do work as advertised.

UAE And Israel Plan To Create Intelligence Bases On Yemen’s Socotra Island

By South Front,

Israel and the United Arab Emirates are going to create a military intelligence-gathering infrastructure on Yemen’s Socotra Island, according to Arab and French sources.

According to reports, a delegation of Israeli and UAE officers recently visited the island and examined several locations for establishing the planned intelligence facilities. Earlier in August, the UAE and Israel with assistance from the United States reached a historical peace agreement relaunching diplomatic, economic and even military cooperation between the states on the highest level. The security and military cooperation in the Bab al-Mandab Strait was among the expected goals.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So the first item on the cooperation agenda between UAE and Israel is.... surveillance?!?

'The Saker' Asks: Will Hillary & The Dems Get The Civil War They Are Trying To Provoke?

Via TheSaker.is,

If you have not already seen this, check out this video of Hillary Clinton stating that, quote, “Joe Biden should not concede under any circumstances“

“Any” means “any”. That would include the (admittedly hypothetical) case of Trump clearly winning in by landslide. Again, “any” means “any”.

The direct implications of that is that the Dems should re-take the White House by any and all means and under any and all circumstances.

That is also a direct appeal to sabotage the US democracy which, as flawed as it is, is the only rule of law based option currently available to the people of the USA.

Will that result in a civil war?

That is rather unlikely, because for a civil war you need to have at least two credible parties which can coordinate attacks and defensive operations on, at least, a regional scale. I don’t see that in the USA.

But I don’t see how local/regional violence (at times severe) and political chaos can be avoided.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF we could right now, I wish that Mike and I could become citizens of a more sane, evolved, respectful, and responsible political culture than what I see going on in the US right now; unfortunately, we are both way too old, and broke, to make that happen.

Webmaster's Commentary:

My heart is breaking, and I am nearly in tears, upon seeing/reading this article.

IF we are not careful, as a nation, this is what the whole of the unhinged, surveilled State of Amerika will look like; and its cities, like Portland, will be places where NO ONE wants to do business.

People are already leaving major metropolitan areas in droves, and places where these riots have touched, have already turned into post-apocalyptic "no-go zones."

If THIS is the future you want for your kids, fine; but if you do no, every voting citizen in your state needs to petition your governor to call out the national guard, and right the hell now.

Iran calls for international pressure to force Israel to sign NPT

Iran has urged the international community to pressure the Israeli regime into joining the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Deputy Representative of the Islamic Republic to the United Nations Es’haq Al-e Habib says the international community must force Tel Aviv to join the NPT and allow the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to access its nuclear facilities considering the Israeli regime's destructive role in the region.

Addressing a virtual meeting on the anniversary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) on Thursday, Al-e Habib stressed that the destructive role of the United States and Israel has prevented the realization of a Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Free Zone in the Middle East.

Webmaster's Commentary:

THAT... took "male attributes" on the part of the Iranian government, and one can only say, "bravo, and well done!!"

Nearly two dozen Saudi troops enter US base in northeastern Syria: Report

Saudi Arabia has reportedly deployed nearly two dozen combat troops to a US-run military base in Syria’s oil-rich northeastern province of Hasakah as the Riyadh regime and some of its regional allies are vying with the United States to loot the natural resources of the war-ravaged country.

Lebanon’s Arabic-language al-Mayadeen television news network, citing an informed source, reported that 20 Saudi soldiers, led by an officer called Saud al-Joghaifi, arrived at the US base in the city of Shaddadi on Wednesday.

The source added that the Saudi troops were accompanied by a convoy of US-led forces from the coalition purportedly formed to fight the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group, which withdrew from Camp Taji, situated 20 kilometers (12 miles) north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad, earlier this week.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Swedish Police 'Have No Control' as Koran Burning Sparks Riots in Malmo - Photos, Videos

A group of activists burned a copy of the Islamic holy book and uploaded the video, depicting it online after police arrested a leader of "Hard Line" political party was arrested by authorities.

Mass riots hit Malmo, Sweden after a public Koran burning. At least three hundred enraged people rallied in the Muslim-majority neighbourhoods, with a crowd torching cars and throwing stones at the police officers, who tried to ease the tensions.

"We have ongoing and violent riots right now that we have no control over", police spokesman Rickard Lundqvist told journalists.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Is Syrian Oil Now A ‘U.S. National Interest’? We want to hear how keeping our troops there in harm's way is 'America First.'

Sure, officially, the military says we are there for stability operations, keeping the peace between the competing factions in the contested areas of Northeastern Syria near the Turkish border. They will say we are still patrolling with Kurdish fighters against the remnants of ISIS. More importantly, however, is Trump’s reason for leaving some 500 troops there—for protecting the oil fields from the Syria government on behalf of the Kurds. More on that in a minute.

While RNC surrogates were congratulating Trump for “rebuilding the military” and his America First virtues in countering China and Iran last night, four American soldiers were recuperating from injuries sustained when a Russian armored vehicle sideswiped their own Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected All-Terrain Vehicle (M-ATV) as they were both racing down a highway in Dayrick near the Turkish border on Aug. 24.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This was an absolutely detestably bad call on the part of President Trump, and needs to be reversed ASAP.

US Says China’s South China Sea Claims ‘Ridiculous: ’US warship sent to disputed area around Paracel Islands

The guided-missile destroyer the USS Mustin has entered the South China Sea and is sailing near the Paracel Islands. The islands are claimed by China, though the US does not recognize that claim. China objected that they didn’t authorize the US to sail there.

National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien called China’s claims in the South China Sea ‘ridiculous,’ saying they’ve been rejected by all the major countries. Most countries in the region have conflicting claims in the South China Sea, and to the extent they overlap with Chinese claims, the US backs everyone else’s claims.

In rejecting their claims, the US has repeatedly carried out “freedom of navigation” exercises near Chinese claims just to prove that they can’t enforce those claims. China is objecting to those incursions, and earlier this week fired anti-ship missiles into contested waters to prove they could challenge those ships if they have to.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would politely suggest, that the US military back the flip off here, unless their real goal is a war against China, and I have to ask; with Chinese military equipment evolving at the rate it has been, how winnable is such a war at this point, when the US doesn't have the money; the troop strength; the manufacturing; or the weaponry to insure a positive outcome to such a war?!?

The Israel-UAE Deal Isn’t About Peace at All: The U.S.-brokered pact makes no pretense of peace for Palestinians. Instead, it sharpens a regional coalition against Iran.

In some ways, the U.S.-brokered plan for mutual recognition between Israel and the United Arab Emirates is big news. For more than a quarter of a century, only two Middle Eastern countries – Egypt and Jordan – had officially recognized Israel. None of the Gulf monarchies did.

So, it was a pretty big deal when the announcement was made. Except, actually, not so much.

Despite the UAE’s claimed adherence to a decades-long position that no Arab country should normalize relations with Israel until it ended its occupation of Palestinian land, ties between the UAE and Israel had been quietly underway for years. The same is true of many other Arab states.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Wow, this looks more like a cynical "same-old same-old", than a real move for peace in the region.

Russian Troops Active In Belarus War Games As Putin Unveils "Law Enforcement Reserve" Standing By

Early this week the US State Department said there were no signs that Russia's military plans to intervene in ongoing chaotic events in Belarus where swelling protests in the tens of thousands have brought Minsk to a standstill as opposition activists and strikers demand 26-year ruling President Alexander Lukashenko step down, or at least hold "fair" and not "rigged" elections.

As of last Monday Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun said there were no indications to suggest Moscow planned to intervene in the political crisis, which many see as resembling the 2014 crisis in Ukraine where the country was split between pro-EU and pro-Russian factions and interests.

That assessment might have changed by end of the week, as regional headlines have confirmed Russia's military is assisting Belarus in conducting war games on Thursday, Friday, and into next week.

"Terminate Bush's War": Trump To Reduce Troops In Iraq By One-Third Just Ahead Of Election

Republican leadership at the RNC Convention this week talked a big game when it comes to "bringing the troops home" - something Trump has been promising since 2016 - but which has not yet ultimately been realized. But can he deliver now as part of a pre-election promise? It looks like the wheels are finally in motion.

Multiple reports citing Pentagon officials on Friday say up to one-third of all American soldiers will permanently return from Iraq over the next two to three months.

This would bring numbers down from 5,200 to about 3,500 according to Pentagon officials. Trump is in the meantime expected to tout an Iraq withdrawal as a success in ending the wasteful wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Among many similar globalist states, The UK State is a public-private partnership between government, financial institutions, multinational corporations, global think tanks, and well funded third sector organisations, such as so called non governmental organisations (NGO’s) and large international charities.

Through a labyrinthine structure of direct funding, grant making and philanthropy, the UK State is a cohesive globalist organisation that works with selected academics, scientific institutions and mainstream media (MSM) outlets to advance a tightly controlled, predetermined narrative.

This designed consensus serves the the interests and global ambitions of a tiny group of disproportionately wealthy people.

Beijing warns of possible ‘military accidents’ after US carries out ‘provocative’ operation in South China Sea

Beijing has cautioned against further US naval operations in the South China Sea, claiming that recent activities by the American side create conditions for an unintentional military confrontation.
A spokesman for the People's Liberation Army (PLA) said on Friday that a US warship entered Chinese territorial waters without permission.

“We urge the US to stop such provocative behavior and restrict its maritime actions to avoid possible military accidents,” Senior Colonel Li Huamin said, adding that PLA naval and aerial forces monitored the vessel as it traveled through the South China Sea.

The US Navy said that the USS Martin carried out a “routine” operation in the region. Washington has cited the so-called “freedom of navigation” principle to defend its regular activity in the sea.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is going to be a "point of no return" in these American "exercises", past which China will believe they have no point but to respond in kind; that is where we could be looking at World War III, and barely understand how it started.

Kamala Harris pledges unconditional support for Israel

Democratic vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris reiterated that Joe Biden will not impose any conditions on US aid to Israel, saying that assistance would not be linked to "any political decision" made by the Israeli government.

Her remarks, about eight weeks before the election, come at a time when the right-wing government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is still considering annexing large parts of the occupied West Bank.

"Joe has made it clear he will not tie security assistance to any political decisions that Israel makes, and I couldn't agree more," Harris told a virtual fundraiser with Jewish-American voters on Wednesday.

That California senator went on to promote Biden's "unwavering support" for Israel and his role in securing military assistance for the Israeli government when he served as Barack Obama's vice president.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Looks like the Palestinians have lost out completely with these campaign pledges yet again.

US, Russia Trade Blame Over Syria Road Incident

Wednesday’s incident on the roads on northeast Syria, in which Russian and US MRAPs reportedly collided, injuring four US troops, continues to be a major issue. The US and Russia are both trading blame for the incident, and for the generally tense situation in Syria.

The White House presented the incident as an escalation of tensions, and presented it as a “clash” with Russia. Their version involved Russia “boxing in” the US vehicles, and that Russian helicopters were flying dangerously low above the US MRAPs.

Video of the incident didn’t tell anything nearly so clear-cut, with it not at all obvious what the vehicles were trying to do, and showing only a very minor collision, which the US says led to four soldiers having concussion-like symptoms.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US military was not invited at the behest of the Syrian government; Russia's was.

And Russia has equipment in the field which will do what its government says it does.

The US military presence in Syria is a very bad call on the part of President Trump, and should be reversed ASAP.

WESTERN WAR PROPAGANDA STILL AIMS AT SYRIA

SOURCE: TONY CARTALUCCI

While US regime change in Syria appears to be a terminal failure, various propaganda ploys used to sell the war continue in the hopes that - at the very least - such ploys can be polished and improved upon when and where the US turns its attention next.

The accused - Anwar Raslan, a former colonel in the Syrian military, and co-defendant Eyad al-Gharib, who allegedly worked under Raslan, had been living in Germany as refugees and were arrested in February last year.

The article also notes that:

Germany is using a legal principle called universal jurisdiction to trial Raslan and al-Gharib.

This allows German prosecutors to work on war crimes cases, whether they have a close connection to Germany or not.

Universal jurisdiction could result in an alternative means for the international community to bring war criminals to account.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Hey, I have some places where universal jurisdiction should be used; how about at US/run "black sites" and Gitmo, where people were tortured?!?

That has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?!?

NATO's "Unified Front" At Breaking Point

Authored by Danny Sjursen via The Future of Freedom Foundation,

Last month, a Turkish warship came one step away from firing missiles at a French naval vessel off the coast of Libya. In response, Paris suspended its involvement in Operation Sea Guardian — a multinational maritime effort to provide security in the Mediterranean Sea and halt the arms trafficking fueling Libya’s ongoing civil war. Initially, only eight member states — notably excluding both the U.S. and U.K. — supported France’s official complaint. This was only the latest incident in the increasingly frequent — and exceedingly awkward — tensions between several of Washington’s core North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) allies.

Indeed, from South America to East Asia, NATO members stand divided over many critical foreign policy issues of the moment.

Webmaster's Commentary:

NATO, as an entity, no longer has any clear direction, and is seeing member nations going after other member NATO members, as Turkey is with Greece, concerning Mediterranean drilling rights, and appears to be one step away from implosion.

Creeping Thucydides Trap: Esper Vows "Won't Cede An Inch" In South China Sea After 4 PLA 'Warning' Missiles

The Pentagon revealed Thursday that China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) "warning" to the US on Wednesday involved the firing of “four medium-range missiles into [an] area between Hainan and the Paracel Islands,” a defense official was quoted in FT.

Among them included nuclear-capable DF-26 missile and the anti-ship DF-21D ballistic missile. Beijing said they demonstrated the PLA's ability to deny outside military access to the South China Sea.

The missiles were fired in response to the major incident from Tuesday, wherein China's PLA military angrily charged that a US U-2 spy plane entered a 'no-fly zone' off China's coast while the PLA conducted live-fire military drills.

The PLA has since ratcheted up its drills, with FT reporting Thursday the military "announced it was conducting another live fire exercise in waters off the eastern city of Taizhou, bringing the number of drills off its coast this week to five."

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US military is "playing picador" with China; and there is going to be a point of no return for the Chinese government, and I have to wonder just what President Trump is truly prepared to do, when that moment comes; declare war?!?

Robot Generals: Will They Make Better Decisions than Humans or Worse?

With Covid-19 incapacitating startling numbers of U.S. service members and modern weapons proving increasingly lethal, the American military is relying ever more frequently on intelligent robots to conduct hazardous combat operations. Such devices, known in the military as “autonomous weapons systems,” include robotic sentries, battlefield-surveillance drones, and autonomous submarines. So far, in other words, robotic devices are merely replacing standard weaponry on conventional battlefields. Now, however, in a giant leap of faith, the Pentagon is seeking to take this process to an entirely new level — by replacing not just ordinary soldiers and their weapons, but potentially admirals and generals with robotic systems.

Rand Paul Delivers Blistering Foreign Policy Attack: "Biden Will Choose War Again"

“I fear Biden will choose war again,” Paul asserted. “He supported war in Serbia, Syria, Libya. Joe Biden will continue to spill our blood and treasure. President Trump will bring our heroes home.”

“If you hate war like I hate war, if you want us to quit sending $50 billion every year to Afghanistan to build their roads and bridges instead of building them here at home, you need to support President Trump for another term,” said Paul, who has long been a fierce critic of former President Obama's foreign policy, including overt intervention in Libya, and covert action toward destabilizing Syria.

US Troops Injured After Russian Chopper & Vehicles Gave Chase To American Convoy In Syria

Dramatic video which emerged Tuesday shows the latest "close call" between US, Russia, and Syrian national forces who are jostling for control of northeast Syria, after a prior incident resulted in a rare exchange of fire at a Syrian Army checkpoint, killing two Syrian soldiers.

The Pentagon is reporting multiple US troops injured with what are being described as "concussion-like injuries" as a result of collisions with Russian armored vehicles.

Artificial (Un)intelligence and the US Military

Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, the U.S. military, as TomDispatch regular Michael Klare informs us today, has had a brilliant idea – robot generals (!) – into which to sink yet more billions of our tax dollars as divestment in our infrastructure, schools, health care, and the like only continues in the age of Trump and the midst of a grim pandemic. Of course, given American generalship in the “forever wars” of the twenty-first century, who doesn’t feel that almost anyone or anything could have done better? Still, to turn the potential destruction of the planet itself (via nuclear arms) over to computers? I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

IAEA Chief Visits Tehran, Asks for Access to Former Sites

The sites in question are a pair of sites that the IAEA has claimed might have been nuclear sites, based on Israeli allegations and US backing of Israeli allegations. The US has pushed the IAEA to investigate the sites.

Iran did grant the IAEA access before, and it didn’t find anything definitive one way or another. They’ve kept asking for extra visits, even though Iran insisted neither was relevant to their nuclear program, and that letting them just keep visiting keeps it unresolved forever.

This puts things in an endless loop, where the US will ensure the IAEA keeps saying the issue is open, and Iran can’t resolve the matter outright, and has to just keep responding or be accused of a coverup.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have to wonder what new strictures will be placed against Iran between now, and 18 October, when the UN ban on Iranian purchases of foreign weapons ends; I sense that in order to keep his numbers up, President Trump may well find a way of declaring war against someone; Iran is high on his list, I am sure, because very few Americans understand the history of this Middle Eastern country, and the role the US played in its subjugation, when the legitimately and democratically elected elected Prime Minister, Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh, was overthrown and the Shah was empowered as Iran's ruler by the US' CIA.

I don't want to be Mrs. Chicken Little of Indiana 2020 here; but the stench of blood is in the air for me right now, and I am telling Mike that my "nesting instincts" are running at full tilt boogie right now.

And IF President Trump declares a "national emergency", he is fully within his FEMA designated capability of suspending the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

I am hoping and praying that I am completely wrong on this; but please remember the immortal words of George Carlin, who, in retrospect, was half comedian, half prophet; and note - for some of our more think-skinned readers, the obscenities might be a little much for you, but Carlin's observations in this monologue are bang spot-on:

No armor, no cry? UK govt reportedly debates SCRAPPING TANKS in favor of hi-tech weapons

A radical plan currently being debated by the government would see the British Army boost its air and cyber warfare capabilities while mothballing its armored fleet, according to a newspaper report.

British defense chiefs have outlined plans to deactivate the Army’s Challenger 2 main battle tanks and Warrior armored fighting vehicles (AFV), as the costs of maintaining them have skyrocketed, the Times newspaper has reported.

Costs aside, the armored fleet – which currently consists of 227 Challengers and 388 Warriors – has reportedly been deemed “obsolete.” Some in the military have argued that 21st-century warfare will rely on cyber capabilities, along with space-related and other cutting-edge warfighting technologies.

China Arms Pakistan With 'Advanced Warships' As Threats Of Nuclear War With India Escalate

When the Trump administration withheld billions of dollars in security aid to Pakistan in 2018, the logic then was that the Pakistani military would be forced to form greater ties with the US and surrounding allies to reclaim lost aid.

Fast forward today, the new reality, Pakistan abandoned the West and its allies for China.

Pakistan quickly bolstered ties with China via billions of dollars in Belt and Road projects over the last two years. China has also provided the Pakistani military with aircraft, weaponry, and other advanced hardware. The cooperation between both countries has taken another giant leap as China just delivered the first of four "most advanced" warships to the Pakistani Navy, a move that will clearly upset India and the US.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There was no "logic" to this decision to withhold aid; only immense stupidity and hubris, in not realizing that China would rush to fill the void with its own weapons; and in the immoral words of the American comedian Ron White: "You can't fix stupid!!"

Let them eat yellowcake: As Powell backs Dems, warmongers seek to regain full control of US policy, regardless of what voters want

By Tony Cox, a US journalist who has written or edited for Bloomberg and several major daily newspapers.

The neoconservatives have a new party. It’s called Democratic, and it’s every bit as warmongering and interventionist as the Republicans were during the Reagan era or that of the Bushes.

We keep hearing how radical leftists have taken over the Democratic Party, but guess who stole the limelight at Tuesday’s Democratic National Convention: the disgraced former Secretary of State Colin Powell who endorsed their presidential candidate, Joe Biden.

In fact, Powell, who helped George W. Bush’s administration lie America into the ruinous Iraq War, was given a full extra minute to speak when compared to Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the face of the woke left.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I think I'm about to get physically nauseous; so, Powell, who so graciously assisted the Bush administration by lying this country into war, is now supporting....the Biden/Harris ticket?!?

And for this, he is getting "rehabilitated" by the Democrats?!?

Folks, I am again walked back to the place of reality here, and that is, no matter who runs for President, every 4 years, we only have the illusion of choice, without genuine choice; if the American people had choice, these endless wars (which will ultimately end badly for this country), would stop, and stop immediately.

The war party always wins, no matter who ultimately "gets elected".

Erdogan says no threats can deter Turkey's operations in Mediterranean

ANKARA (Reuters) - No threats can deter Turkey from seeking natural resources in the eastern Mediterranean, President Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday, adding that Ankara expects actors in the region to take steps to de-escalate tensions.

Greece and Cyprus are locked in a dispute with Turkey over overlapping claims to areas potentially rich in resources. Two Turkish survey vessels are in areas claimed by the three countries. On Tuesday, Cyprus said it was willing to engage with all its neighbours on defining maritime boundaries.

Five days before deadline, Israeli election appears imminent as Netanyahu, Gantz lock horns

The two leaders have not spoken in over a week, and Israel appears to be headed straight to its fourth election in less than two years.

With no compromise in sight between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud and Defense Minister Benny Gantz's Kahol Lavan parties over the state budget, parliament could dissolve on Monday and Israel will head to its fourth election in less than two years.

Negotiations are deadlocked over a proposed bill to extend the deadline for passing a new budget, which expires on Monday. With talks stalled, Netanyahu and Gantz have not spoken in over a week.

Likud wants the bill, which would give the government until November to pass a budget, to include “exit points” every 10 days that allow revoking the extension, which would effectively force a new election. Kahol Lavan opposes the proposal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is unfortunate that apparently, the Israeli voters don't have much of a choice in this next election; no matter for whom they vote, they are voting for more war, and more destruction.

Afghan Army Tells Personnel to Be Ready to Return Fire Against Pakistan

Constant tensions along the ill-defined Afghan-Pakistan border look to be coming to a head again, with the Afghan Army issuing a statement in which they instruct personnel to prepare for retaliatory fire against the Pakistani military in case they cross the border.

This comes after an overnight incident in Kandahar, in which Pakistani artillery fired across the border, killing nine civilians and wounding scores of others in a residential area. Details on this attack are still not entirely clear.

The incidents are not clear, but not unusual, as the Durand Line border tends to be contested by both sides, and cross-border fire happens, often without a solid explanation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Would this continue to be happening, had the US not invaded Afghanistan all those years ago?!? I would suspect, most probably not.

Trump Demands ‘Snapback’ Sanctions on Iran

President Trump has demanded the reimposition of ‘snapback’ sanctions on Iran as part of the P5+1 nuclear deal, and revealed the US will go to the UN Security Council on Thursday to demand full imposition of all those sanctions without objection.

Within the nuclear deal, there is a clause that allows the US to snapback all sanctions if they believe Iran is failing in the deal. The clause also says no members of the deal can veto the measure. This is the plan the US is resting on.

And yet President Trump withdrew from the deal in May 2018, and had failed to live up to requirements before then. This raises serious doubts that the US can impose ‘snapback’ under the terms of a deal that they are no longer party to, or whether nations like China and Russia would be compelled not to veto it.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Folks, this is like "being a little bit pregnant"; one is either part of the deal, or one is not part of the deal, from which President Trump withdrew American participation in May of 2018.

If the US is no longer a part of the deal, its leadership has utterly no right to demand a snapback to all sanctions.

One has to wonder; is this administration suffering from some kind of collective lead poisoning from the water pipes in DC?!?!?

Because I have to tell you; from where I sit, this looks like desperation on the cusp of madness, and were I a betting woman, the US is going to be made to appear thoroughly, hysterically unhinged, if this administration really pushes these demands today at the Security Council.

ISRAEL LAUNCHES WEEK-LONG BOMBING CAMPAIGN IN GAZA AMID ONGOING WAR CRIMES INVESTIGATION

SOURCE: MINT PRESS
Last Monday night Israeli fighter jets executed airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip for the ninth night in a row in an act that may be another on Israel’s long list of possible war crimes.

Israeli leaders characterized the actions as retaliatory, naming Gazan “incendiary balloons” and “riots” as justification.

This is just the latest in what mainstream media generally depicts as a “protracted conflict” between “the militant group Hamas and Israel,” after “months of calm” (5 Gazans have been killed in 2020; Israel has shot at farmers and fishermen hundreds of times; no Israelis have been killed).

The plight of Palestinians in Gaza, a population of almost two million crammed into a region the size of Detroit, has been hidden from the view of most, even as the US funds its occupier with over $10 million a day in military aid.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel has devolved into a cruelly apartheid theocracy with nuclear weapons; what could possibly go wrong in the region henceforward?!?

A great deal, my friends; a very great deal.

Video: Rain of Rockets Hits US Forces in Iraq. Israeli-UAE Peace Deal Crumbles Days after Its Announcement

As it was expected, the ‘historic’ UAE-Israeli peace deal did not contribute to the stability in the Middle East. Instead, the situation has been slowly, but steadily moving towards a larger confrontation in the region.

Immediately after the announcement of the US-sponsored peace deal, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that his country is not going to fulfill one of its key provisions – the suspension of the annexation of West Bank territories. The prime minister emphasized that the annexation plan was just delayed, but not suspended.

“There is no change to my plan to extend sovereignty, our sovereignty in Judea and Samaria, in full coordination with the United States,” Netanyahu said adding that “Israel will have comprehensive peace agreements with other Arab countries without returning to the 1967 borders.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have to wonder just how long it is going to take President Trump to realize that Netanyahu has 'played him' on this issue, and Israel was never going to stop this coming annexation, ever.

Continually, throughout their relationship, which very far pre-dates Trump's presidency, Netanyahu has been "relieving himself" in President Trump's face, and telling him it's raining; this is simply more of the same.

American Politics: Send in the Clowns for the Circus Is in Town

By Edward Curtin

The French writer Guy Debord called this The Society of the Spectacle.

For many months now, all eyes have been directed to the Covid-19 propaganda show with Fauci and Gates, and their mainstream corporate media mouthpieces, striking thunderbolts in the storm to scare the unknowing audience into submission so the transformation of the Great Global Reset, led by the World Economic Forum, Wall Street, the International Monetary Fund, et al can proceed smoothly.

Meanwhile, as the circus rolls along, far away and out of mind, shit happens:

With more than 400 military bases equipped with nuclear weapons surrounding China, the United States military continues its encirclement of China and China enters a “state of siege.”

King Joe and the Round Table: Biden’s America in a Multipolar World

Webmaster's Commentary:

This article walks the American people, and the world, back to the grim reality that with every Presidential election cycle happening in this country every 4 years, Americans actually have no real choice regarding the leadership of this country; the war party always wins, every single time.

Israel bombs Gaza after warning Hamas it risks war

Israeli warplanes bombed the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip overnight after Palestinians fired a rocket into southern Israel, the army said.

The latest exchange came as Israel warned Hamas it was risking "war" by failing to stop fire balloons being launched across the border.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Netanyahu could certainly use a distraction right now, between the stalled annexation; his corruption trial; and his horrific debacle at dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic; perhaps this is how he sees that distraction playing out right now.

Belarusian Media Publish Alleged Opposition Program to Move Minsk Away From Russia Toward West

Belarusian state television has publicized what it says is the platform of the united opposition, with the document, the authenticity of which has yet to be independently verified, said to include elements which would dramatically weaken Belarus's relationship with Russia and move Minsk toward closer relations with the West and NATO.

The program, dubbed the ‘Emergency Package of Reforms for Belarus’, is said to have been approved by the main opposition candidate, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, during the election campaign. According to Belarus 1 TV, the document was recently pulled offline, but remains accessible in Google’s cache.

The program purportedly proposes abolishing the Union State with Russia and erecting a proper border with the country, leaving the Eurasian Union and Customs Union, and withdrawing Belarus from the Collective Security Treaty Organization military alliance, which in addition to Russia and Belarus includes Armenia, Kazakhstan,

Webmaster's Commentary:

I frankly don't know if Russia's President Putin can stop this from happening, but the way this is framed, makes one think that the US, NATO, and Europe are squarely behind this move toward the West, and away from Russia.

Trump says he ‘totally rejected’ Pentagon plan to slash military healthcare by $2.2 billion, vows to protect ‘heroes’ from cuts

Donald Trump has poured cold water on the idea of drastically reducing spending on military healthcare, after a report emerged claiming that the Pentagon was hoping to make sweeping budget cuts.

The president’s message was in response to a report published by Politico, which stated that the Department of Defense wanted to trim healthcare spending over the next five years as part of Secretary Mark Esper’s call for Pentagon belt-tightening.

“A proposal by Pentagon officials to slash Military Healthcare by $2.2 billion dollars has been firmly and totally rejected by me,” Trump tweeted. “We will do nothing to hurt our great Military professionals & heroes as long as I am your President. Thank you!”

over millennials’ spending habits? Are China's Naval Ambitions A Global Threat?

Update: Adding fuel to the fire that Coughlin describes below, Global Times Editor Hu Xijin tweeted the following earlier today:

The more US aircraft carriers come to the South China Sea and exert pressure on China, the more it will prompt the PLA to develop complete and reliable methods against them. Once a war begins, these aircraft carriers are more likely to become vulnerable targets.

Authored by Con Coughlin via The Gatestone Institute,

China's decision to launch a fresh round of military exercises close to the disputed territory of Taiwan demonstrates that Beijing's communist rulers have little intention of backing down in their increasingly provocative confrontation with America and its allies.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Over the years, I have observed that Con Coughlin never found a potential war with which he wasn't absolutely in love; one has to wonder what his investment strategy is, regarding the military industrial complex.

But that being said, in order to win such a war against China, many major changes are going to happen in that part of the US economy which he obviously adores.

First, the military industrial complex must never be allowed to contribute one dime to Presidential or State political campaigns.

It is very difficult to scream at someone over dinner, for providing completely horrible, antiquated products to be used in battle, when the heads of those very companies have contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to one's political campaign.

Secondly, those heads of the companies which are the backbone of the military industrial complex in this country must understand, that when they sign contracts to create weapons, that if those weapons do not work as advertised, are delivered too late to work against emerging weapons developed by other countries, or at an exorbitant cost overruns, they are signing their own sentence to hard jail time, as having been instrumental in industrial military treason against the US.

Hard money needs to be re-established that is actually backed by something other than fiat money; the fiat money system is doomed to ultimately collapse, and we are observing the death-throes of the American dollar right now.

The draft will have to be re-instituted in this country; we don't have the troop strength to win against China, and the all-volunteer military is not creating either the quality or quantity of military personnel necessary to pursue a successful war against China.

Escobar On Battleground Beirut: Western Colony Or Back To The East?

Authored by Pepe Escobar via The Asia Times

Facing oh so timely color revolution-style “protests”, the current Lebanese government led by Prime Minister Diab has already resigned. Even before the port tragedy, Beirut had requested a $10 billion line of credit from the IMF – denied as long as trademark, neoliberal Washington consensus “reforms” were not implemented: radical slashing of public expenses, mass layoffs, across the board privatization.

Post-tragedy, President Emmanuel Macron – who’s not even capable of establishing a dialogue with the Gilets Jaunes/Yellow Vests in France – has opportunistically jumped in full neocolonial mode to pose as “savior” of Lebanon, as long as the same “reforms”, of course, are implemented.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Lebanese people deserve far better than what they have received from whatever the next government shapes up to be, and I hope they get a government who will put the needs and concerns of the Lebanese people first, second, and third.

Soldiers arrested in child sex trafficking sting in more bad news for Fort Hood

Two Fort Hood soldiers and one soldier from Fort Sam Houston were recently arrested as part of a two-day child sex trafficking sting in the latest bad news coming out of the Texas Army post. The men were arrested and charged with prostitution when they arrived at a location where they believed they would be meeting up with underage girls who they were paying for sex.

The two soldiers from Fort Hood, 25-year-old Spc. Anthony Xavier Antwon and 30-year-old Pfc. Timmy Jones Jr., were hit with felony charges of prostitution under the age of 18. The two men are being held at Bell County Jail on $50,000 bond. Meanwhile, 32-year-old Staff Sergeant Pierre Jean, a combat medic assigned to Fort Sam Houston, was charged with a Class A misdemeanor for prostitution.

US B-2 Bombers Deploy to Diego Garcia

A group of three B-2 Spirit bombers have arrived at Diego Garcia this week. Pentagon officials emphasized that this is a national-defense strategy, and the bombers are “sharpening our lethality.”

Bombers from Diego Garcia tend to be used against Iraq and Iran, along with some sorties into Afghanistan and the South China Sea. In general, the deployments are seen to target Iran, though the tensions in the South China Sea may also play a factor.

Long-range sorties are often carried out as part of multi-national training operations, and in support of US carrier strike groups. Diego Garcia is a popular place for the US to station bombers because of its proximity to several areas.

Diego Garcia is subject to a territorial dispute from its native population, which was expelled by Britain before the island was leased to the US. Despite ongoing lawsuits, neither the US nor Britain has any intention of allowing the natives to return.

US, NATO Boost Presence Near Russia

US military officials are discussing an intention to shift military forces out of Central Europe, and into the Black Sea, which they believe is a growing hotspot in NATO tensions with Russia. European Command says this will increase operational capabilities in the area.

NATO’s military deployments tend to be Russia-centric, previously shifting into the Baltic states to get troops close to Russia, and now having done that, the Black Sea is the new target. Defense Secretary Mark Esper tied this to US troop cuts from Germany.

NATO has talked about trying to get their handful of Black Sea states to invest more in their navies, but the most recent incidents have seen the US repeatedly deploying spy planes around the Russian border, only to get intercepted and driven away.

New Report Reveals US Special Forces Active In 22 African Countries

A new report published in South African newspaper The Mail and Guardian has shed light on the opaque world of the American military presence in Africa. Last year, elite U.S. Special Operations forces were active in 22 African countries. This accounts for 14 percent of all American commandos deployed overseas, the largest number for any region besides the Middle East. American troops had also seen combat in 13 African nations.

The U.S. is not formally at war with an African nation, and the continent is barely discussed in reference to American exploits around the globe. Therefore, when U.S. operatives die in Africa, as happened in Niger, Mali, and Somalia in 2018, the response from the public, and even from the media is often “why are American soldiers there in the first place?”

Serbia’s Intention to Buy Chinese Weapons. US Concerns

Belgrade’s announcement that it may purchase the Chinese FK-3 anti-aircraft missile system was enough for the U.S. to express concern about Serbia’s future, not only with Europe, but with the entire world.

The U.S. Embassy in Belgrade said that

“procuring military and defense equipment is a sovereign decision. However, governments should understand the short- and long-term risks and costs involved in doing business with Chinese companies. Procurement choices should reflect Serbia’s stated policy goal of greater European integration. Alternative vendors which are not beholden to authoritarian regimes offer equipment that is both capable of meeting Serbia’s defense need and comparable in quality and cost.”

ENGDAHL: TOWARDS A US-CHINA WAR? THE CREATION OF A GLOBAL TOTALITARIAN "ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT" SYSTEM?

SOURCE: ZEROHEDGE

SOURCE: F. WILLIAM ENGDAHL VIA GLOBALRESEARCH.CA
If we step back from the details of daily headlines around the world and try to make sense of larger patterns, the dominant dynamic defining world geopolitics in the past three years or more is the appearance of a genuine irregular conflict between the two most formidable powers on the planet - The Peoples’ Republic of China and the United States of America. Increasingly it’s beginning to look as if some very dark global networks are orchestrating what looks to be an updated rerun of their 1939-1945 World War. Only this time the stakes are total, and aim at creation a universal global totalitarian system, what David Rockefeller once called a “one world government.” The powers that be periodically use war to gain major policy shifts.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would like to strongly, but politely, suggest to the Adults in the Room in DC (the one or two perhaps still left standing in Congress and our military), that a war against China would be one of the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing the US could possibly do at this point in its history.

Unfortunately, just because something would be the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing this country could possibly do, is no guarantee that the US will not do it.

We don't have the troop strength, the weaponry; the manufacturing; or the money to pursue a positive outcome to such a war.

For example, the Chinese now have ai weapons.

Oh, and BTW, the design flaw-fraught F-35?!?
F-35 Design flaws mounting, new document shows.

The article goes on to state: "A new document obtained by the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) shows that the F-35 program office has made little progress in fixing the fighter jet’s hundreds of design flaws, and continues to discover more of them. The Joint Strike Fighter Program Office’s Deficiency Report Metrics document, dated February 28, 2020, shows the program is currently dealing with 883 unresolved design flaws—and has no plan for correcting over 160 of them.

The F-35 has 162 deficiencies listed as “open, no planned correction.”

More than half, 448 deficiencies, remain “open, in dispute.” This means pilots or engineers believed they found a problem, but the contractors tasked with fixing the problems are claiming no problem exists. Multiple sources inside the F-35 program told POGO that the default response from the program’s prime contractor, Lockheed Martin, to any identified shortcoming is to say that the company’s design meets contract specifications, and that any further changes can only be made with a contract modification. In other words, the contractors will not fix the design flaws until the government pays for the changes. More worrying are the 162 deficiencies listed as “open, no planned correction.”

The fact that Lockheed Martin Corporate believes it can "get away with this kind of thinking", betrays at least an extraordinarily cavalier attitude toward the lives of those military personnel who depend on these aircraft for mission and survival, and if President Trump is going to turn this around, he needs to do so via executive order, and right the hell now.

If Lockheed Martin Corporate is obdurate, then henceforward, in every single contract for military product development, there needs to be a very clear statement that to not deliver a military product up to spec, on time, and for massive cost over-run is a form of treason which will not be allowed to stand, and that hard jail time is waiting for those execs who do not adhere to these requirements.

Draconian?!? Absolutely. Would it "cure the problem" of corporate malfeasance for our military?!? I would suggest it may well do that.

And the next thing that has to happen, is that the military industrial complex not be allowed to contribute one penny to political campaigns, either at the state or national level, because it is very difficult to yell at a corporate exec whose company has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to your campaign, when their product does not perform as advertised in the field for our military.

China's Military Ordered "Not To Fire First Shot" In Any Stand-Off With US Forces

At a moment of increasingly dangerous military flexing both over Taiwan and in the South China Sea, the People's Liberation Army has reportedly been ordered “not to fire the first shot” in any potential confrontation with the United States. It suggests this emerging 'new Cold War' scenario could turn hot at any moment.

The South China Morning Post broke news of the standing military orders on Tuesday based on unnamed sources: China has told its service personnel “not to fire the first shot” as Beijing looks to de-escalate tensions with the United States in the South China Sea, it reports.

Further SCMP cites that "The sources said Beijing had ordered pilots and naval officers to exercise restraint in the increasingly frequent stand-offs with US planes and warships."

Banning Killer Robots is 'No Longer an Option', We Must Now Focus on Control, Argues Futurist

Autonomous killing machines are becoming a growing reality worldwide, one which has sparked intense debate and resulted in an increasing number of governments and civil society organisations calling for a ban over the use of the technology.

There is growing support worldwide for an outright ban over the use of fully autonomous weapons, also known as Killer Robots, according to a new report from Human Rights Watch (HRW). In its latest report, HRW details the publicly known positions of 49 countries on the development and use of Killer Robots following a global campaign to ban the technology, which was first initiated by an international coalition of civil society and other groups, in 2012.

We Have House Armed Services Committee Democrats To Thank for Trump’s Horrific War Budgets

I recently discovered the extent to which Democrats routinely vote for Republican policies and expenditures at the committee level. Such enabling committee-level "yes" votes often fly under the radar, since members of Congress who cast these damaging votes often vote "no" on the House or Senate floor. They then point to their "no" floor votes as evidence of their ostensible opposition to the policy that they just encouraged and enabled by their much more powerful committee "yes" vote.

China is increasing its military drills as tensions with US heat up

China is stepping up military drills around East Asia as a war of words with the United States heats up over Washington's military activities and the visit of a US cabinet secretary to Taiwan.

One Chinese think tank even says the People's Liberation Army (PLA) may consider live-fire exercises near the US island of Guam.

Beijing has stepped up the pace of its war games in recent weeks, after the US sent two aircraft carrier strike groups on rare dual-carrier exercises in the South China Sea twice in the month of July.

But the visit of US Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar to the self-governed island of Taiwan this week has added fuel to the smoldering tensions. Azar is the highest-ranking US official to visit the island -- which Beijing regards as Chinese territory -- in decades.

Azar's presence in Taipei is "a serious breach" of US commitments on Taiwan, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said Monday afternoon.

Webmaster's Commentary:

US-China relations: America is looking to outgun PLA in Indo-Pacific, observers say

US Army Chief of Staff James McConville said at a recent online event hosted by the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington-based think tank, he was making “long-range precision fire” his top priority and was looking at options for basing such weapons systems in the Indo-Pacific as part of America’s deterrence strategy.

The changes “will allow us to overmatch” potential adversaries like China and Russia, he said, adding the move would also include “establishing joint all-domain task forces”.

McConville’s comments came after US Marine Corps commander General David Berger said in March in his “Force Design 2030” plan he wanted to reduce the role of marines in ground warfare and leave the bulk of that responsibility to regular troops.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is obvious that there are those in power in this country who are just trigger happy enough - and vile enough - to magically believe that another world war would magically resolve all of the US's economic problems, which it will not.

This country doesn't have the money; the troop strength; the manufacturing; or the weaponry to pursue a successful conclusion to a war against China. And such a war will not resolve those situations, only exacerbate them.

Germany Pullout: Esper Says Troops are Moving Closer to Russia

President Trump’s plan to withdraw about 12,000 troops from Germany has received enormous backlash from Congress and the media. The common criticism is that the move is a “gift” to Russian President Vladimir Putin. But that argument ignores the fact that about half of the troops that are leaving Germany are moving closer to Russia’s border.

In an interview with Fox News, Secretary of Defense Mark Esper said the troop movement will “deter” Russia. “We are moving many troops further east, closer to Russia’s border, to deter them,” Esper said. The Pentagon chief took the line of argument President Trump is making and said Germany is not paying its “fair share.”

Esper also pointed out that despite the drawdown from 36,000 to 24,000 troops, Germany will still host more US military personnel than any other NATO ally. “It is collective security, it is about our collective responsibility to stand up to the Russians.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Forgive me, Secretary Esper, but from WHAT are the US troops "deterring Russia", and why do we have to "stand up to them"?!?

Considering the massive expense of these deployments, how in the world are they actually benefiting Americans going about their daily business of life?!?

China Slaps Retaliatory Sanctions On Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio & Other China Hawks

In retaliation for Washington slapping sanctions on Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam, along with several mainland officials, China on Monday has slapped sanctions on ten American lawmakers - all Republicans - over their support for the Trump Administration's decision to strip Hong Kong of its "special status" and America's hectoring of Chinese (and HK) officials over their support for the new Beijing-imposed national security law.

Critics, including the US, UK and most western Democracies, have accused Beijing of willfully violating international law by imposing these "illegal" changes to the HK Basic Law, a UN-registered international treaty. Now, Beijing is accusing the US of foreign meddling in Hong Kong.

Webmaster's Commentary:

These sanctions are more for show than anything else, to make it appear that Beijing is actually "doing something" to respond to the sanctions against it, which are also more for show than anything tangible.

Erdogan says Turkey has resumed drilling in eastern Mediterranean

NATO members Turkey and Greece have long been at loggerheads over overlapping claims for hydrocarbon resources.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has announced that Turkey has resumed energy exploration work in the eastern Mediterranean, saying Greece had not kept its promises regarding such activities in the region.

NATO members Turkey and Greece have long been at loggerheads over overlapping claims for hydrocarbon resources and tensions flared up last month, prompting German Chancellor Angela Merkel to hold talks with the country's leaders to ease tensions.

"We have started drilling work again," Erdogan told reporters after participating in Friday prayers at the Hagia Sophia mosque. "We don't feel obliged to talk with those who do not have rights in maritime jurisdiction zones."

Webmaster's Commentary:

India and China: Behind the Conflict: The two most populous countries in the world are battling over a border, but it’s really about energy and water.

Chinese and Indian forces have pulled back from their confrontation in the Himalayas, but the tensions that set off the deadly encounter this past June – the first on the China/India border since 1975 – are not going away. Indeed, a poisonous combination of local disputes, regional antagonisms, and colonial history could pose a serious danger to peace in South Asia.

In part, the problem is Britain’s colonial legacy. The “border” in dispute is an arbitrary line drawn across terrain that doesn’t lend itself to clear boundaries. The architect, Henry McMahon, drew it to maximize British control of a region that was in play during the nineteenth-century “Great Game” between England and Russia for control of Central Asia. Local concerns were irrelevant.

The treaty was signed between Tibet and Britain in 1914. Although India accepts the 550-mile McMahon Line as the border between Indian and China, the Chinese have never recognized the boundary.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Let us hope that some "Adults in the Room" of geopolitics can get tensions ratcheted down, before something truly even more ugly than what has happened this year, happens again, and from which there will be no backing down by either side.

Biden intervened to keep Israel ‘occupation’ out of Democratic platform

Before presumptive presidential candidate stepped in, progressives had secured agreement to include word for the first time in party manifesto.
By RON KAMPEAS

WASHINGTON (JTA) — Joe Biden personally intervened to keep the word “occupation” out of the official Democratic platform, according to a new report.

Foreign Policy reported Thursday that Biden intervened after pro-Israel groups appealed to him, citing three sources, including Jason Isaacson, the chief policy and political affairs officer at the American Jewish Committee.

“The question of whether to allow the text to refer to ‘occupation’ or use the phrase ‘end the occupation’ was taken to the vice president and he said ‘no,’” Isaacson told Foreign Policy.

Imagine my complete absence of shock over this omission!

When you want to know how owns US foreign policy, all you have to do is look at the areas where you cannot criticise a foreign government, and the answer will be self-evident.

Russia warns it will see any incoming missile as nuclear

MOSCOW (AP) — Russia will perceive any ballistic missile launched at its territory as a nuclear attack that warrants a nuclear retaliation, the military warned in an article published Friday.

The harsh warning in the official military newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda (Red Star) is directed at the United States, which has worked to develop long-range non-nuclear weapons.

The article follows the publication in June of Russia’s nuclear deterrent policy that envisages the use of atomic weapons in response to what could be a conventional strike targeting the nation’s critical government and military infrastructure.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would certainly like to hope and pray, that the US government would never order such a strike against Russia; that would be one of the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid things the US government could possibly do.
