The Russian Armed Forces has moved its S-500 air defense system to occupied Crimea, the head of Ukraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence Kyrylo Budanov said.

It is the latest addition to the Russian air defense family of systems, featuring better capabilities than its predecessors.

“The Russian air defense system is being strengthened,” Kyiv Independence quoted Budanov as saying.

“This is quite obvious and understandable. The newest elements of the S-500 have appeared. In principle, this will be their experimental application, but they have already appeared there [in Crimea].”

Around 50 detained Palestinian men from Gaza were released by Israel on Tuesday, the Turkish Anadolu news agency has reported. The released men showed visible signs of torture, as seen in videos and photos.

Several men appeared exhausted, gaunt and thinner than usual in photographs.

Palestinian sources said some 33 of the freed men were taken to Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza for medical attention "due to poor health conditions".

A video shared on social media from the hospital showed a young girl reunited with her previously-detained father. The young girl could be seen crying as she hugged her father, who was visibly exhausted as he laid in the hospital bed.

The man was reportedly detained for eight months by Israeli forces, and was tortured while in captivity.

Footage has emerged of Israeli soldiers apparently executing Palestinians in an area of Gaza declared a “safe zone” for civilians by the Israeli military.

Three videos broadcast by Al-Jazeera English on Wednesday showed Palestinian civilians being shot dead by Israeli forces on Al-Rashid Street, the coastal road connecting the north and south of the Gaza Strip.

The street was previously the site of an Israeli massacre which killed over 100 desperate Palestinians trying to collect aid last March.

In one video, reportedly taken on 1 June, a Palestinian is shown walking along the beach. He is then stopped by Israeli soldiers and shot dead.

Israel's far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has called for the dead bodies of Palestinian prisoners to be "put in carts and dragged through the streets" to serve as a lesson for those planning to "carry out operations against Israeli targets".

The extremist MK made the chilling comments at an Israeli cabinet meeting last Sunday where the release of prisoners' bodies to their families was under discussion.

Israel's Maariv newspaper reported on Monday that the meeting took place after a petition was submitted to Israel's Supreme Court on behalf of the family of Walid Daqqa, who died in April, demanding his body be released and given to his family,

Daqqa, a Palestinian citizen of Israel from Baqa Al-Gharbiyyah, had been in prison since 1986 and died in April after having been diagnosed with cancer of the spinal cord in 2022.

Webmaster addition: The treatment of the dead with dignity is addressed in the Third Geneva Convention (1949) relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War. Article 17 of the Third Geneva Convention specifically states that the parties to the conflict must ensure that the dead are honorably interred, and their graves respected, maintained, and marked.

Noncitizen service members with the American Civil Liberties Union filed a motion to the D.C. Court of Appeals Monday pressuring the Biden administration to choose between defending a Trump-era policy, which complicated expedited citizenship for noncitizen service members, or dropping the administration’s appeal after a years-long pause in the case.

The issue stems from a lower court decision striking down the October 2017 policy from the Trump-appointed Defense Secretary Mark Esper, who expanded reviews of noncitizen service members and extended service time requirements to 180 days in order for active-duty troops to receive naturalization paperwork.

The Trump administration appealed the lower court decision, but President Joe Biden assumed office while the appeal was still active. The Biden administration, with the support of noncitizen service members’ attorneys, asked the court to pause the proceedings to develop a new policy for naturalizing members of the military.

A community-led group formed to provide public oversight of the Navy’s Red Hill fuel facility will be shut down after the committee refused to cede control of the meetings to the military.

The Red Hill Community Representation Initiative, or CRI, was formed last year by an agreement between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Navy and the Defense Logistics Agency. The aim was to give residents an open line of communication with the military after fuel from Red Hill tainted Pearl Harbor’s drinking water in 2021, sickening thousands of people.

Here’s a thought.

What if the kids are all right?

New polling shows young voters in the US are shrugging off their habit of voting left and actually thinking of voting Republican in November.

In almost equal numbers to their Democrat-voting contemporaries.

All this despite the daily diet of Democrats trying to throw everything at young voters to woo them.

Anyone who gets daily messages in their inbox from the Biden- Harris campaign will know how hard they are trying to make voting Democrat “cool” to young voters.

In the past few days alone this has included “direct messages” from George Clooney, Julia Roberts and — er — Jimmy Kimmel.

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) said in an interview that he sees a clear need for measures to boost participation. “I like the idea of national service. And I’m not talking about in wartime,” he said, calling for more Americans to put “some skin in the game.” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) suggested that military recruiters need more leeway to work in the country’s public schools and said, “I will take no option off the table” when it comes to addressing the shortfalls, including compulsory service. Trump’s last defense secretary wants all public high school students to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB).

The lead-up to the 2024 presidential election started with a wide field of Republican candidates vying for the GOP nomination. As the odds turned against the primary candidates, each dropped out until only one was left standing.

Democrats set up their primary so that the odds were blatantly stacked in favor of the incumbent. Joe Biden didn’t have to miss a single nap to garner the presumptive nomination for his party.

Former President Donald Trump has been forced to beat the odds at every stage of his campaign run to retake the White House. Trump may not play the slots when he walks through a casino, but he knows how to work the odds in politics. And his odds are looking strong heading into election day in November.

From The Washington Examiner:
The odds that former President Donald Trump will win back the White House have increased to a record high of 58%, according to political oddsmaker SportsHandle.

In the West, and beyond, pressure groups operating under the banner of “human rights non-governmental organizations” (NGOs) have become key actors in disseminating war propaganda, intimidating academics, and corrupting civil society. These outfits act as gatekeepers determining which voices should be elevated and which should be censored and canceled.

Civil society is imperative to balance the power of the state, but governments are increasingly seeking to hijack it through NGOs they fund. They can enable a loud minority to override a silent majority.

In the 1980s, the Reagan doctrine exacerbated the problem as these “human rights NGOs” were financed by the government and staffed by people with ties to intelligence agencies, to ensure civil society won’t deviate significantly from government policies.

One of Russia’s top security officials called on Thursday for Russians to mobilize to inflict “maximum harm” on Western societies and infrastructure as payback for increasingly tough sanctions being imposed on Moscow by the U.S. and its allies.

The statement by Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council and Vladimir Putin’s predecessor as president, came as the West sharply escalated sanctions on Moscow in efforts to degrade its ability to wage war in Ukraine.

“We need to (respond). Not only the authorities, the state, but all our people in general. After all, they – the U.S. and its crappy allies – have declared a war on us without rules!,” Medvedev wrote on his official Telegram channel, which has over 1.3 million followers.
