Five wildfires ripping across Texas have killed at least two people, with authorities worried about more casualties as a thorough search for victims was yet to be conducted.

Joyce Blankenship, 83, was found dead in her destroyed Hutchinson County home, officials said. On Thursday it was confirmed that a second woman – Cindy Owens – had succumbed to her injuries after getting out of her truck and being severely burned.

A tally of the numerous homes and other structures damaged or destroyed in the fires is not available yet.

The Magenta Fire in Oldham County, which is covering an estimated 3,300 acres, is now 85 per cent contained, according to an update from the Texas A&M Forest Service.

But the Smokehouse Creek fire, the largest in state history, is still only 3 per cent contained with no end in sight.

German military leaders allegedly discussed an operation to bomb the Crimean Bridge, RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan claimed on Friday, citing audio leaked by Russian security officials.

The recording purportedly features a 40-minute conversation between high-ranking Bundeswehr officers, Simonyan said on social media.

They discussed how to carry out the attack while maintaining plausible deniability for German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, according to her account of the conversation.

They also remarked that the German military was keeping its distance from the Ukraine conflict, unlike the American and the British, who they said had been “directly involved for a long time,” Simonyan claimed.

American spies and special forces operatives are in Ukraine helping its military while young recruits are needlessly dying on the frontline, a US mercenary has claimed. Jason Freeman thought he was speaking with former President Pyotr Poroshenko but was in fact revealing the information to Russian pranksters Vovan and Lexus.

Interviews with “soldiers of misfortune” were posted on Wednesday as part of the latest episode of the notorious duo’s RuTube show. The American fighter was the first they tried to recruit into “Poroshenko’s” new mercenary outfit.

Freeman, who is married to a Ukrainian in Nikolaev, boasted that he had killed 21 Russian soldiers and hit 13 more, but admitted that his entire unit was destroyed in the battle of Artyomovsk (known in Ukraine as Bakhmut). He also complained about problems getting paid and criticized the incompetence of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Claims that Russia is planning to deploy nuclear weapons in space are merely an attempt by Washington to push Moscow into negotiations on terms set by the US, President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday.

Delivering his annual address to the Federal Assembly, Russia’s national legislature, Putin insisted that statements by American officials about their supposed willingness to reach an agreement with Moscow on nuclear weapons controls are nothing but “demagogy” ahead of the US presidential election.

Putin accused the US of “hypocrisy” over recent “unfounded accusations” that Russia plans to deploy strategic weapons in space, and insisted that such falsehoods are nothing but an attempt by Washington to drag Moscow into negotiations that are exclusively beneficial to the US.

The president noted that Russia offered the US a draft treaty on preventing the deployment of nuclear weapons in space back in 2008, but pointed out that Washington has blocked the proposal ever since.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has come under fire from the UK after he suggested that there were British troops operating in the Ukraine conflict. Explaining why Berlin would not supply Kiev with long-range Taurus missiles, Scholz said it would require German military personnel on the ground providing assistance.

He went on to say that Taurus “is a very long-range weapon, and what was done on the part of the British and French in terms of target-control and target-control assistance can’t be done in Germany.”

Commenting on Scholz’s remark, Tobias Ellwood, the former chair of the British Commons defense committee, said it was “a flagrant abuse of intelligence deliberately designed to distract from Germany’s reluctance to arm Ukraine with its own long-range missile system,” as quoted by The Telegraph. The British lawmaker was also sure that the statement would be “used by Russia to rachet up the escalator ladder.”
